Hello I bought this ukulele but I would like information on how the strings of G and C agree .... are Gg and Cc arranged?
@GotAUkulele4 жыл бұрын
There are no hard and fast rules really, other than the four 'pairs' are designed to be tuned to the same note (though not the same octave necessarily). The most common is to tune high G, low G, high C, low C, and the E and A tuned in unison to regular uke tuning.
@pip55285 жыл бұрын
It's a bit closer to a Renaissance guitar than a single-course ukulele. Howerev, in most cases, Renaissance guitars have a single first course while all others are double courses, using only 7 strings in that instance, though some can have 8 and a double on the first course.

I'm trying to find a open slot tuner like this one but with only 4 strings but with this price range and this quality of this uke . Can I take off 4 strings and use this one as a 4 string ? Will the spacing of just 4 string work out ? If so what strings should be removed to get equal spacing ? If you know of a 4 string with the open slot tuning head that is as good as this one at this price range will you put a link or the name of it .

I don't know a model that gives you what you want - you could take the strings off, but really you would need to swap the nut for a four string version or they will be a bit one sided. Could work i guess

Would you say an 8 string ukulele is more difficult to play than a guitar (as far as the pressure needed to hold the strings down)?

Than a guitar? That's a difficult comparison as only four courses of strings. I would still say far easier on pressure required.

I am trying to decide whether to get this one or the 6 string version. I have carpal tunnel and sometimes barring is tough for me. Do more strings mean more pressure to bar? If so, do you think there is a lot of difference between the 6 and the 8? Sadly my Uke store is shut now (cleckheaton) and I can't try one in person. Thanks for your reviews! alice
@GotAUkulele6 жыл бұрын
They do mean a bit more effort, yes. I don’t think it’s hugely different if they are set up well, but your mileage may vary. Sadly, with something like carpal tunnel, the only sensible thing you can do is try one. if you are near Cleckheaton - could you get to Huddersfield? Eagle Music are based there - highly recommended store.

And I'm willing to spend 130 pounds on an instrument provided its good (which this one is). Could you tell me in what way is it not a good beginner ukulele? You said that its not different in playing a normal one and that its not that hard to push the strings down. I'm a little confused :S Thanks for reading!
@GotAUkulele7 жыл бұрын
People assume 8 strings are harder to play, but they are not - you play them the same way. I guess though I would still not probably recommend one as a first ukulele if you have played no others - for the simple reason that they are more hassle to tune (much more) and a very specific sound. I love them, but don't think I would ever ONLY have an 8 string - would only have one to compliment a regular ukulele. No rules though.

Any tips? I'm in Bristol and would be happy to give it away to someone with the patience and skill to get it working.
@GotAUkulele5 жыл бұрын
FCraig going out of tune on a uke with geared tuners like this is not a function of a bad ukulele. It only means one of two things. 1. The strings were not put on properly, or the much more likely 2. That the strings are still stretching. It can take ages. Give it time. Even new strings on a $4000 uke will do what you are describing. It’s normal
@GotAUkulele5 жыл бұрын
FCraig ps - your musician friend doesn’t know what he’s taking about! Could also be 3. Bad string set. Change the strings, let them settle (days / weeks). Unless the tuners are physically broken(why would they be) going out of tune when settling is 100% normal

@@GotAUkulele Bit late to the party here, Barry! I (Stones Music) don't supply Thomann - they buy direct from Baton Rouge's parent company in Germany. Depending on the vagaries of exchange rates etc, sometimes they may appear cheaper from Thomann BUT you are very fortunate if you received one that was perfect straight out of the box. I set every single one of these up prior to shipping to my UK dealers, simply because the nut height on a uke with this many strings is absolutely critical. You're fretting twice as many strings and barre chords will be nigh on impossible if the nut isn't cut as low as possible. Wherever you bought yours, I hope you enjoy it :-)

I really want the pairs but I'm confused by the matched strings. seems a 6 string or full octave tuning would be far more sensible.
@GotAUkulele7 жыл бұрын
It's not really David. Having 6 individual strings would be more complicated, and 8 individual strings would be impossible. The point with the pairs is you play them EXACTLY the same as a 4 string - basically pressing down two strings not one at each fret position - but they are so close you just play normally and it works. If you can play a 4 string you can play an 8 string
@the_nondrive_side7 жыл бұрын
I tried my best to explain.. you didn't get me. i am in the middle of converting one of my tenors to a 6 string. I'm putting on a 26" neck with slotted headstock for 6 tuners and the nut and bridge slotted like the 8 string except I plan on adding using doubled strings in the pushpins. I haven't made my string choice or arrangement yet it will only be 6 string 2 octaves gG and cC... but I've seen a bunch with the C and A doubled... I like idea of an octave on the A.
@GotAUkulele7 жыл бұрын
Ah right - 6 strings (and 5 strings for that matter) exist with pairs - absolutely. And they work the same way - ie 6 strings but 4 courses.
@OMPughy5 жыл бұрын
@@the_nondrive_side I once set one of these up with custom stringing - octaves across the board, with the lowest string being a low octave E string. It sounded amazing BUT that E string was bordering on a bass string and had to be played very softly to avoid buzzing. I think the unison pair convention has evolved over time because octave stringing means that sourcing suitable strings is difficult. That said, you could easily put a low A on that top course, like they do on the 6-string model.
@the_nondrive_side5 жыл бұрын
@@OMPughy yeah I've been playing one set up multiple ways over the last two years. The only real issue is finding strings with a high C and a Low G. I've used literally every package set from the 6 string with low A... It's interchangable with the Low G.. And I'm ultimately using two packs to make a set often a low g and a reentrant set with a high C5 string I sourced myself at a length I'll be using it for the next long while..
