That's a nicely finished piece of wood you got under that old machine that looks like it's been sitting outside for decades. Make sure you don't ruin that patina - you don't want to ruin the character of the old beast. Maybe VGG can help you get it going again - he's great at getting things on the road that have been left outside for 30+ years!

You really certain that canister should have grease packed in it? It's not uncommon for old machine tools like this to have novices operate and squirt grease where oil is supposed to go. I've NEVER heard of a machine with a grease canister. Some machine tools have zerk fittings that are only supposed to get oil. Seen it on a number of youtube vids of ppl buying old mills n whatnot, where the ways get completely destroyed and seize up, and the tool (perhaps bought untested) usually gets junked or buyer endures a very costly and long rebuild. Like, I'm def no expert, but just plz check and ask around before packing more grease into an oil canister. Or into other zerk fittings, for that matter. Bonus: just cuz there's no zerk fitting in the top doesn't mean there shouldn't be. Maybe it's been modified to have the fitting moved somehow (and new passages added?). But maybe the top one just got removed cuz it was clogged, and oil was still regularly added to the open hole during operation. Just to caution you against assuming. Good luck. I loved the last upsetter vid and was sad not seeing more on the channel since.
@TimothyDyck3 жыл бұрын
I thought that to in the back of my mind about the canister, it makes no sense for grease... the manual clearly shows for the one I just purchased just two grease fittings on the back and none on the top. But the other one is different and you could be right that they changed from grease to oil for the main cylinder on the back. I’ll take a more critical look at it and let ya know what I find.
