I like Daenerys character because it has this... chaotic good to her. She's good, but in a chaotic way. She's won most of her followers through love and admiration, and now is resorting to fear, because she knows how it works in Westeros. No character in this series is good. There are bad characters, but there's no truly good characters, and I like how even Daenerys fits into this.

He’s killed people both in defence and because his honour compelled him (Olly the kid who betrayed him), and has been so loyal as to almost destroy a chance at an alliance with Lannister’s at the Dragonpit meeting. He lives by a code indefinitely. I can’t think of a time where he’s truly abandoned his code (except almost leaving the nights watch to go aid his brother Rob). I believe Jon Snow to be the only truly ‘good’ character

I never understood why Daenerys received so much hate for burning the Tarlys. The punishment for insubordination is death. Jon killed Janos Slynt for that, Ned killed some dude in season one for that. Like yeah, she burned them. Her house motto is ‘Fire and Blood’ after all

The difference is Janos Slynt and the man Ned executed had both sworn oaths of loyalty to the Night's Watch, the Tarlys were not sworn to Dany, they were sworn to Cersei, so really they were executed for keeping their oaths. And anyway, the defense that "everyone else in Westeros does the same" does not work in the case of Dany who has promised to break the wheel, does doing the same thing as your enemies really count as breaking the wheel?

Yeah they did do her dirty. Season 8 actually wasn't supposed to be all about the iron throne. The white walkers were supposed to be such a huge threat to humanity that moved the plot forward. The bigger the threat the dead became the less important the iron throne was supposed to be but they subverted pur expectations and made it about the throne and pit her and Jon against each other for no reason because she knew she had to get married to create alliances once She got to Westeros that's why she left Daario in Mereen. She even married Hizdar in season 5 for politics but all of a sudden she's so stupid that she wouldnt know that marrying Jon would solve the issue with him being the heir. D&D are just idiots.

And gained everything; an army, dragons, her titles. -Olenna approves (we love the Queen of Thorns, she and the Martells see something worth following in Daenerys). Yes, she can be rash, impulsive, but she also listens to the pleas of her people and can be merciful. (Still impulsive, sweet, to burn the Tarlys.) She's not mad; it's war, she cannot afford to be nice all the time. If you're nice, you will die.

No other character grown so much in this series: She started as a sad and weak child tormented by her abusive brother. She was sold to Khal Drogo as an animal to be his wife. She lost her husband and also her khalasar and was left to starve to death in the desert, but instead of die she brought back dragons to life. She walked throughout Essos to learn how to be a queen. She ruled Meereen and saved all slaves in the free-cities. She reunited all Khals to her domain and was the first ruler to make them cross the Narrow Sea on the way to Westeros to play the Game of Thrones and break the wheel of power. My Queen: the Mother of Dragons, breaker of Chains, the unburned....... Long life to the of Queen of Westeros!!!

This was so brilliantly done... her titles said by Missandei over the perfectly chosen scenes, Olenna's "Be a dragon", Dany's speech to Qarth over the scenes of her armies and dragons, followed by her speech to the Unsullied and the Dothrakis... chills everywhere. Some fans hate on her for the speeches, but I love them all (especially the one to the khalasar, echoing Drogo's promise to her), and it is extremely fitting to the character - Daenerys is a character who inspires others, a character who draws loyalty and love. This is the very essence of who she is, and your tribute displayed that perfectly and beautifully.

I guess the difference is that in earlier seasons she killed people who deserved it - maybe not every single one of them, but as a group, the slavers deserved to get stripped of their power to abuse people who were lower class than themselves. When Daenerys kills Cercei's men, she doesn't kill them for enslaving people like the slavers did or raping and killing people like the Dothraki leaders did. She kills them because they fought for Cercei - who is their queen at the moment - and being loyal to her. She kills people for being loyal to their queen, people who don't see the said queen as evil. The public doesn't know about Cercei's wrongdoings, they don't know she's the one who blowed up the sept or anything else she did. They see her as a queen they are sworn to obey, and Daenerys kills them for not breaking that oath.

@@Gamikane all of westeros has hated cersei and the lannisters for years now, even prior to when cersei committed an act of terrorism and usurped the throne (which is common knowledge among the peasants). and daenerys was, all things considered, extremely fair to lord tarly. she actually offered him his life and he refused, and even in execution she treated him with respect, even though he mocked her. the tarlys are principal bannermen to the tyrells (who had declared for house targaryen) and owe them their primary allegiance, which tyrion points out. cersei being his queen is merely an excuse randyll hid behind, when the real reason he is fighting for her is simply for the promise of control of the reach. the reality is the entire purpose of war is to defeat your enemies. the tarlys would have killed daenerys if she had won the battle, and they knew that she would do the same to them if they lost. that's war. i think the main reason people draw so much issue with the fact that daenerys executed the tarlys is the manner in which the scene is constructed; the ominous music, the defeat in the eyes of the tarly soldiers, tyrion walking across the battlefield looking at the ashes. you're SUPPOSED to believe she's having a mad queen moment, despite the fact that her actions really do not suggest this.

*SPOILER SEASON 8 EPISODE 4* They are being so unfair to Dany in season 8. She sacrificed half of her army and one of her dragons for the north, and she doesn't even get a "thank you". She lost her beloved friend Jorah, she lost another one of her dragons, and then she lost her best friend Missandei who got her head cut off right in front of her. Yet nobody respects her and nobody thanks her - all the while they call her mad. One of her advisors are scheeming to get rid of her behind her back and everyone blames her for wanting to set things on fire. If I were her and those things happened to me I'd want to burn things too. She's sacrificed lost so much in such a short span of time and yet she gets nothing back. The writers are turning her character over and turning her into something she's not because of fanservice. 10 years of struggle from the bottom and to the power, and this is how she ends? With everyone thinking she's mad? With little to no respect? Fuck. At this point I want her to burn everything - fuck the throne.

For as much as people hated the end to this story, it’s amazing how we are still discussing it. I can’t help but think that if GRRM or the show writers ended this saga with a pretty bow and happy ever after…no one would care anymore. It would just get packed away with all the other stereotypical films in this genre. This is great fiction. It challenges your preconceptions and digs deeper than all those cookie cutter fables.

Her story is the most tragic fictional character in literature I’ve came across. I watched this character grow and evolve into an awe- inspiring ruler. Someone who wasn’t afraid of changing the world, and wasn’t afraid to tear down systems of oppression for the good of all people. To root for someone for almost a decade and then see the outcome that she got in this last season...it felt so hollow, like a death. I think that’s why so many fans are mad at the writers because of what they did with these characters. They could have developed it in way that didn’t feel so rushed and empty. I dunno, I guess we just have to live with it and move on...

Daenerys Targaryen, what a story. Someone who believes that they can break the wheel while at the same time sitting on the throne (the ring). What an amazing story. Martin managed to hit home by turning Daenerys. We all loved her and he managed to use her to show us just how dangerous the desire for ultimate power can be. Years from now, people will congratulate him and D&D for staying true to his vision. It was unpopular but appropriate.

I don't think many people have a problem with the vision and story. It's just the ending was rushed with bad writing. The themes you talk about would have had a greater impact on people if they fleshed them out. The book should be much better.

It drives me mad when no one called Cersei a Mad Queen when she blew up the Sept of Bailor and all it’s trial attendees both friend and foe and with it an entire section and civilians in King’s Landing. Now that was crazy! In the final episode I noticed, that Cersi never commanded that the bells ring in surrender because the bells were never meant to ring for surrender. Consequently, we never saw who rang the bells. Jaimie was busy getting to Cersi. That “bell ploy,” was Tyrion’s invention. Suspecting that he was a traitor, knowing he had released his Brother Jaimie, Dyanaris couldn’t trust him and seeing Cersei watching calmly from her balcony, who could blame her for fearing a trap. And rightfully so, The Queen of Dragons was, “Not today Lannisters!” and Fire and Blood had its reign. Dyanaris wasn’t a Mad Queen, her downfall came when she told Jon (brainwashed by Tyrion) that, those with other opinions as to what is good, would not get to choose and since that included Sansa, and Arya. He stabbed her to save his family, not kill a new tyrant. And don’t get me started on “Bran the Broken,” who came “...all this way,” to be King. That final Season had more wholes than a slice of rotting Swiss Cheese! I hope GRRM clears this mess up sooner than later in THE WINDS OF WINTER & A DREAM OF SPRING. Write GRRM, write!!!!
