I played bass professionally from a teenager until switching to semi pro after about 15 years and honestly your original bass tone sounds great as a stasrting point. You should not be embarrassed by that at all. That source sound really made it so you were able to make it into a final form that is really awesome. The amount of people I replaced on records who did not have hands to get that original tone and timing is pretty high. No way the final result would be that good if the source sucked, so nicely done!! :)

This reminds me that this trick of splitting the bass sound between the lows and the highs is something I learned from you and applied in my song "September air" (by Villa Vide, my artist name). Then I applied saturation to the lows and Juno Chorus to the highs 🙂 It was a great piece of advice, many thanks to you !

My most happy accidental invention so far was when I ran an instrument with a slow and deep detune into a soft auto tune. It gives the most amazing wobbly warbling sound because sometimes depending on the modulation it would either slide up or down a semitone. It worked best with blues and harmonic minor because it effected those notes that want so badly to resolve up or down a semitone. Give it a shot!

Just the mention of splitting the highs and lows makes me want to see an effects pedal that does that. Could be used as a harsh filter, or to send to different amps, or apply effects to the different parts. Although you would also want a combiner pedal too I guess.

@@urproblem Might be able to use one of them basses with stereo output? Run them through individual filters and effects, and then merge back together. I think a simple merge pedal would just be 2 input jacks wired to one output? Although thinking about it, would a filter circuit just sending to two outputs rather than to output and ground work for the splitter? If so even a novice could wire that up.
@majormercator
@majormercator Жыл бұрын
I had this exact same thought after I saw Andrew's original video on this idea. I've since bought the EHX Tri-parallel mixer, which allows you to split your signal using effects loops. The crucial feature is that each input has an EQ knob, so you can filter the lows to one loop and the highs to another loop. Otherwise I think you'd need 2 EQ pedals and 2 splitter pedals to achieve the same thing. It can do more than this trick, but this was the basic idea I got it for
@jorisnouvellon7400
@jorisnouvellon7400 Жыл бұрын
The dark glass X distortion can do that, splitting the Low and the high, even if I think it can only compress the low, and distort only the high. Otherwise I think I could manage to do it with my source audio eq2, other pedals after, and something to sum up the two signal at the end (or using two amps)
