Join a roadtrip through Arkansas and the offbeat Ozark mountains and discover the best roads and best places to visit.
Arkansas is not just worth a stop - it’s a destination. Shady forests , peaceful lakes and hidden treasures. Find out about the best places to visit when touring Arkansas and witness, how I nearly ran out of gas in the middle of the Ozarks.
As soon as I arrived in Arkandas the scenery had changed from the endkess plains to beautiful rolling hills and lush green forests. Here are the best places to visit, best roads to ride and things to do when visiting Arkansas and the Ozark mountains:
- Sleep at Sky-Vue Lodge. It is a historic and cozy little B&B right on the edge of the Ozark National forest. The property sits near the top of Mt. Gayler in the Boston Mountains, part of the stunning Arkansas Ozarks, and offers rooms with porches, a pizza service, and views, that money can’t buy.
- Explore the White Rock Recreation Area and its amazing dirt roads
- Ride the Pig Trail Scenic Byway. It winds through the rugged and forested Boston Mountains region of the Ozark Mountains. This 24 miles on State Highway 23 is one of Arkansas best motorcycle rides and USA Today listed the route as the # 2 of the best rides in America.
- If you are looking for a good place to stay in the middle of the Ozarks, Mulberry Lodge, that is right on Highway 23, or Byrd’s Adventure Center are the best options. They offer as well camping - but were completely booked at my time of traveling.
- Stop in Oark and visit the famous Oark Cafe to eat a burger. Established in 1890, it’s the oldest continuous-operation store in Arkansas. And yes, people literally drive for miles to eat one of its famous burgers.
- Explore Falling Waterfalls. Falling Beauty Waterfall also known as Falling Water Waterfall is is literally next to the dirt road in the Richland Creek area of south Newton county in Arkansas. It's a peaceful little spot to have a picknick, a swim or to put up your hammock and enjoy the calming sounds of the water.
- Don't run out of petrol in the middle of the Ozarks ;)
- Camp at Barkshed Recreation Area. Barkshed is a primitive camp near a clear mountain stream. It was the old "Barkshed Forest Camp" and is a serene little oasis in the middle of the forest these days.

Have you heard the State Song, " Arkansas ( you run deep in me) ?? Makes a couple references to "falling in love with it", or "losing your heart there". It isn't on youtube. The artist recent ( back in the 1990's I think) recording of it keeps a tight copywright on his version of it.

Very humbling. I’ve lived in NW Arkansas for 16 years and haven’t taken in all it has to offer yet. We raised 3 boys in this state…tons of travel baseball, soccer, basketball…taking the kids all over the state. HOWEVER…just recently realized it was 99% on the interstate and major state highways. Now, I work on the road all over Arkansas and hardly ever on major roads (on purpose). Much of this state is truly a natural gift from God.

What a nice motorcycle adventure! The name Arkansas comes from the French pronunciation of a Quapaw (an Indian tribe) word, which means "land of people living downstream". The debate was officially established in 1881 by a decision of the federal state - based on the pronunciation of French and Italian immigrants. Thanks a lot and i'm looking forward to Tennessee!

I moved to arkansas from texas years ago and i could never go back. This region of arkansas truly is like waking up in a fantasy world. And im so glad you got to see the sunset over the mountains. It never fails to be amazing even in deep storms. If you ever swing through arkansas again. I suggest a few places. Jack creek Petit jean waterfall (requires a little hike but it feels like mother nature holding your hand and showing you what beautify actually is) And fishing and camping at the white/buffalo river resort. Jack creek is a beatiful massive cliff face you can climb and dive from into the deep mountain spring river. Petit jean waterfall is one of the most amazing falls in the whole state. And the white/buffalo river resort is amazing to either travel along for sightseeing, or fish for trout. Ive never caught less than 5 legal trout in a day when i went. And half the time i let them go because the experience of being there is almost enough to feed you without the fish. Even then the trout are always plump amd healthy, great seared, stewed, or smoked.

I am from NorthWest Arkansas. Wish I could explain the pronunciation, I'd have to research that, but I know it was made a crime to pronounce it as Ar-Kans-us a long time ago, maybe in the 1800's. I grew up on motorcycles up there and I rode the route that you showed us many times. Thank you for showing me some places in my home State that I need to visit! I did cliff racing on highway 71 between Fayetteville and Fort Smith quite often and some other 'hairier' places. Surprised none of us went over the cliffs. lol I just discovered your channel and love this. Good fortune to you, happy travels and Ride On!!! @@jamesblackwell703 I watched and re-watched that point of the video, and one thing I noticed she could have took it back the direction it was coming from. So, always move them across the direction they were heading towards, or they will just have to walk across again. They are heading that way for their own reason a and won't be deterred. I live in the same county she was doing this in, btw, and I do this kind of thing quite often in spring when they are most likely out looking for mates.

My dads family were all from the Ozark Arkansas and surrounding areas, and I recall vacationing there where we always visited White Rock Recreation that we called White Rock Mountain where we would camp. I remember those rough roads going up the mountain with sheer cliffs on one side and drop off on the other side! We always had fun there as we went hunting and fishing and visited several recreation parks and family members, as well as attending Homecoming each year. I still have a few relatives left in that area as most of my wonderful family members have sadly passed away.

Being from Arkansas, I can't tell you why it's pronounced the way it is. Alot of us still joke around and say it like Kansas but with the AR at the front lol. Ozarks are great! You should've taken US highway 71 south out of Fort Smith to US 270 east over to Hot Springs. It's a tourist town with ALOT of history, old businesses that have been there since 1800s, and beautiful scenery! If you ever get down in that area, I live in Hot Springs and would love to show you around! Be safe!

This guy I met at the gas station (who I unfortunately didn’t film) gave me all these suggestions - and it’s very rare that I meet someone who really exactly suggests me things that I want to see and roads that I enjoy riding.
