Gm’s 1.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, commonly found in the Chevy Sonic, Cruze and Buick Encore, has a well-known issue resulting in a lean code, P0171, and often times oil consumption and/or an engine whistle noise. This issue is often only partially repaired resulting in repeat failures. This video breaks down the process for diagnosis and repair. Enjoy!

It's crazy! The Opel Mokka ist one of the best selling cars from Opel that days. No one knows this problem, and i fixed it all! The intake-sealing, the throttle, the map sensor, the injectors, the ignition coil because of the misfire... I needed the car for work so I drove and drove and drove. So i destroyed the sparkplugs because of the high heat. Thank you very very much for your help 😎 I thought the engine's down, but you rescued me!

@@GoTechTraining Knowing now that it's rubber, I worry less about it roaming around in the engine. I'm the guy that searches for hours for the dropped screw that didn't hit the floor. It's not the cost of the screw that worries me. it's the damage it might do to what ever it gets into....Thanks....

I did too. It's the same story over and over with this engine. There's a guy on here named "Dre Dan" channel-- Look up his "V3 PCV fix" for this 1.4L. He seals up those internal holes, and then drills and adds a more industrial valve on an external line-- that's easier to change and virtually never breaks anyway. It's a great alternative to buying a new intake. Because I was not going to buy a whole new intake, just because it's missing that silly little silicone flapper on the inside- which will just fall out again. (disgusting design). They should have at least added a little window/ removable lid with two screws where you could each down in there with a new silicone flapper valve, without taking off the entire intake.... anyway, the "version 3 (v3)" fix is a sweet little kit and makes this engine 10x more reliable; because as long as that valve holds up, they PCV doesn't go bad, typically. If you do these a lot, you might look into it.

Great video, as stated by others in the comments, so many people replace their valve cover and have to replace the front mail seal that also failed, but never resolve the core issue which is in the intake manifold. As far naming goes, alot of people, including myself, call the non-return valve in the intake manifold the pcv valve. But thats just semantics. Once again, great video.

@@GoTechTraining well I stupidly tried cleaning that intake hole or tube with it with the metal cleaner provided in 1 of the latest PCV fix kits, and then after that I looked and it was gone. Didn't check before. But I only tried it because I did an oil change and noticed some leakage around the top of the valve cover on the outside facing the front of the car. Maybe it was gone already to cause that, maybe not. But even the last time the valve cover was totally bad and leaking, and the car ran crappy and threw 3-4 CEL's the nipple was still there.

Hello, I've got P0171 and P1101 faults on my 1.4 turbo. I checked the non-return valve in the intake manifold, the oil separator membrane and the non-return valve in the turbo hose which was bad. I changed it with an used one, but it passes little air from the turbo side ( you can barely blow the air from that side in to the hose). My question is: should I bother to buy a new hose for 50eur? Could the system even feel such a small amount of air coming from the hose and turn on the check engine light?

yeah.. It's just a little piece of silicone that acts as a one way flapper. It falls out and you have no way to get in there to add another one--- so they just make you buy an entire intake, when all you need is a little 10 cent piece of silicone. Such a poor design; and it will fall out again --- just you wait.

You actually glue in a plug and seal up those existing internal holes--- then you drill a new hole and put a valve on an external line---- at least this way you can replace it easily later. Go ahead and reinvent the wheel... or PCV valve & intake system in this case. Just don't do it with cheap plastic components... Right? So I think I've figured out why they do this in mimic of BMW's plastic engine bay strategy. After watching a recent interview with Elon Musk about his meeting with Daimler Chrysler in 2009, I think manufacturers do this kind of planned obsolencence BS on purpose. In that interview (in Germany) he was told by a successful car industry investor that the car makers who actually make it, do so on the volume of used cars on the market by selling high mark up parts for them. The new car sale doesn't make you money and maybe you lose money on it, but the parts with the fixed costs already spent can have very low variable cost and higher margins (easy money with stable longer term yields). This is why so few new car companies have been able to succeed in recent times. They have no volume of used cars to make that sweet, sweet low cost/high mark up parts money. US car companies have to be required by law to carry parts for the cars they sell for 10 years. And many like Chrysler stop carrying them after that. In contrast, I still by factory Toyota parts for my 24 year old Tacoma. You know who loves Toyotas? The whole world does!

Sorry, but that is not the pcv valve. It is only a diaphram. The car has two pcv valves, but that is not it.
@GoTechTraining
@GoTechTraining Жыл бұрын
Hey Carlos, you're right, it is a diaphragm but it does the same job as the traditional pcv valve. GM calls its a crankcase pressure control diaphragm in service info. Diaphragm valve different operations, same result essentially. Thanks for watching! Mike Becker, Senior Instructor

What a cr@p design. A simple PCV valve becomes a whole valve cover job. Buy American, they said….
@calholli
@calholli Жыл бұрын
Disgusting isn't it. All it needed was a little window there with two screws, where we could reach in with a new silicone flapper and pop it in place, and then screw the cover back on. but no, They want to sell parts; and a 10 cent piece of silicone flapper isn't going to make them any profit. It's embarrassing really. This is why I only buy Honda or Toyota.. other than Ford trucks.

It is surprising the new intake was not redesigned or a kit wasn't developed to repair the old intake. Thanks for watching!
