I believe you absolutely hit the nail on the head regarding personal interpretation. I lost my son in 2020, and Crystal Snow is definitely a song that comforts and soothes the grief of loss for me. I still can’t listen to it without crying, but not necessarily tears of sadness. Please react to the live where you can experience the emotion in their faces along with their beautiful voices.

The lyric video scripts: the top line is written in the language being spoken, in this case, Japanese (using a mix of characters from Kanji, Katakana, and Hiragana writing systems) and English (roman letters). The top line in BTS Korean songs is written in Hangul, roman letters, and the occasional Hanja (Chinese characters). The second line is the romanization of the written script of the first line into Roman/Latin letters. The problem with romanization is which phonetic system is used? and the ones used in the lyric videos are rough phonetics. Ex: Korean word hyung could also be hyeong. English readers could see this as word as having two vowels and having two syllables (hy-ung or hy-eong), which is incorrect. There is only one vowel in the word; yu/yeo is a specific vowel sound. With Korean it is easier to learn Hangul writing system and the proper sounds than to deal with the romanization. Japanese uses three writing systems, so I use the romanization, and then my daughter (who has taken Japanese for a number of years) looks at me with a puzzled cringe and tries to figure out what I am trying to say. Last line is a translation. Some lyric videos are better than others. Also some words or concepts have do not translate well. Simple example: RM's Wild Flower, the caption translate the line 전부 진저리 나, 하나 열까지 다 as "Everything's so exhausting, from A to Z", but a more direct translation is "I’m so fed up with it all, from one to ten". (However, I believe RM picked the English wording and idiom to fit his meaning. Geez...I get way too caught up in the details.

Thank you for explaining the romanization. I just want to put in a +1 for learning Hangul rather than trying to puzzle through the Romanized version. It's a great alphabet and a lot of things that look completely overwhelming romanized aren't that complicated in Hangul 😂 Random example, the chorus from Just One Day: 하루만 너와 내가 함께할 수 있다면 Which could be Romanized as: Haruman neowa naega hamkkehal su issdamyeon The romanization looks, to my eye, like a whole lot more syllables than it is 😂

@@evantesseract737 Agree. I see the romanization and I automatically start applying English decoding rules. For example the last word, issdamyeon (있다면), I would want to pronounce ir as "is-sdam-ye-on", but is actually pronounced eet-dah-myeon. No ss sound at all, and different vowels. I love that Hangul's vowels only have one sound unlike English with all the variations of sounds of A, E, I, O, U, and sometimes Y.

This one helps when we want to sing with them, knowing How to pronounce. It has helped me a lot with studying the language as well. The second one is the translation. I never ever thought a band could mean so much to me. I’ve loved a couple of ‘idols’ but they have never got to me the way these 7 young men have. So much so I had to stand in a chemist queue for 40 minutes the other day which would normally get me quite agitated but this time very happy standing there listening to my BTS playlist on my headphones. Wishing you, your family and the family on here a very happy 2023, maybe a bit hard watching them go into their military service but still lots lots more content for you to react to. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

There are a lot of these lyric versions of BTS songs & they have the lyrics in Korean or Japanese (top line), then the phonetic proununciation of the Korean/Japanese in English (middle), then English translation of the lyrics (bottom). And they highlight which member(s) are singing. These were super helpful when I was first getting to know the group & the members' voices.

With the lyrics, the top ones are written in Japanese (or Korean on their other songs). The middle row is a romanized version of the original language so you can read it to learn even if you can’t read the characters on the first line. Then the bottom is the translation. Hope that helps!!

Well, the first line is the Japanese writen in their own alphabet (hiragana or Kanji, cause they have two alphabets). This line is not easy to read, since few ppl outside Japan and the culture would know how it reads, unless they studied it. The second line is the Japanese writen in Roman alphabet (or romaji characters), it's called romanization exactly for this reason. This lets ppl who don t know the Japanese alphabet read the words on top and see how they sound basically. So you can sing along to the words spoken with the romaji characters. The third line is the translation in English, so you can now understand what is being said and what you are singing along to, if you are singing along. So the middle line is just to help you with how the japanese words are supposed to sound like and the bottom is the translation. The top is only for those who know Japanese alphabet. Edit: the first thing applies to Korean lyrics videos, where the 2nd line shows you how the Korean is read. And then there is the translation. It happens with a lot of Asian cultures that do not use the Latin alphabet, actually. It is pretty convenient to sing along.

Okay, so Japanese and Korean written languages. Let me start with Korean. The Korean writing system is called Hangul. The Hangul system was developed by Sejong, fourth king of the Chosŏn dynasty, in 1443 to improve literacy. The top line in the lyric videos is usually in Hangul, which is why you don't recognize any of the "letters". Because of the way Hangul was created, it's rather logical and easy to learn. The actual spoken language, on the other hand, and written words are another story. Much like English, there are words that sound alike but have different meanings and it can be confusing. They also have formal and informal ways of speaking and can have words "written cutely" which can make it VERY confusing. Also like English, many of the words are "root" words that are then modified, usually by different endings. The second line of the Korean in the video is the Hangul letters converted into English (Roman) letters. This is the "Romanized" version of the words Jin, Jimin, and Jungkook are the Romanized versions of their Korean names, for example. The Romanized words allow people who know the spoken language but not the written language to follow along in the lyric video. Now, Japanese is a little more complicated. Japanese doesn't have an alphabet, they have a syllabary. That means that each character represents a syllable, not just a single letter. Well, most of the time. There are a few exceptions. The thing is, there are two different syllabaries that are used. One is Hiragana, which is the syllabary for native Japanese words, and the other is Katakana, which is used for imported words like steak, door, and computer. Katakana is used to phonetically spell out the foreign words. There is another system of writing for Japanese that is called Kanji. Kanji uses Chinese characters to represent whole words or ideas. All three are combined to create written Japanese. Children's books are written mainly in Hiragana with the occasional Katakana word thrown in but Adult books and things like newspapers and magazines will usually use Kanji and Katakana. Kanji words are also modified using Hiragana, like to show past tense. Kanji is used to shorten the written form of the language, rather than spelling the whole word out, using Hiragana. That's why Hiragana is used for children's books. The Romanized version of the Japanese language is call Romaji. Korean doesn't have a special term for it, as far as I know. So, in a Japanese lyric video, it's written in Japanese, including Kanji and Hiragana, but they usually just write out the English word, rather than using Katakana. Then, the second line is Romaji and the third line is the translation. Oh, and Japanese has formal and informal language, just like Korean. Sometimes, the form of language used can be important, like the way Yoongi refers to Bang PD in Daechwita. He actually refers to him informally which is it's own kind of flex. So, that's the basics of the written languages. I've taken Japanese in college and studied Korean for a year and a half with a phone app. I'm not truly fluent in either language, but I know quite a bit about them. If you are curious, you can look up the alphabet and syllabaries by just Googling their names. Sorry for the long post, but languages can get pretty complicated.

Yeah the 1st line is using the writing of the country, hangul for Korean in this case it's Japanese (someone else discussed the 3 different types of Japanese writing so I'll leave that to them) the 2nd line is romanized, (spelled phonetically) so you can learn to sing along. To understand pronunciation because their letters make different sounds than ours, I usually listen to how they pronounce the letters and try to mimic that. You kinda gotta listen and pay attention a lot to be able to do that I think (it took me a while anyway) . Then the last line is translation . It's fascinating to see how sentence structure etc differs from English. (I love linguistics and all of this lol) merry Christmas 🎄💜

The one doing the triple high note during Jungkook’s part during the end is actually Jin. This is something we all agree on as Army, but for some reason Jin really really shines on Japanese tracks. All the members do incredible but Jin is on another level. The three lines in translation videos go like this: Top Line: Korean translation (or Japanese) Middle line: Romanization Bottom line: English translation I’m gonna try to explain this the best I can. The top line is the Korean letter of their alphabet. So for a word like “love” for example, the top line would say 사랑. The middle line is romanization (some consider it like reading Spanish or Spanglish). The way you see it is the way you read it out. Using the word “love” the middle line would say sarang. To be more technical the romanized of 사랑 by every letter is this ㅅ = s ㅏ = a ㄹ = r (or L in some cases) ㅏ = a ㅇ = ng So the romanization is literally spelling out the Korean by its letters. Sarang is how you would say or pronounce the word “love” in korean. Some people learn kpop songs by learning the korean alaphabrt system: Hangul. Others find it easier just to memorize the romanization of the songs. Whichever way, it’s the same thing. And the bottom line is just the English translation. So I hope that helps. I know other people are probably confused on that too

Luke, I think what we're trying to tell you - always choose a live version of a BTS song if possible! LOL! It makes each song even more meaningful to see their facial expressions and emotions. Can I recommend Don't Leave Me? It is a Japanese song by BTS which was part of the soundtrack for a Japanese/ Korean series called Signal. Hardly any reactors react to this song. Have low expectations cause it is a little known song and made specifically for the soundtrack. Then just listen...😀 Only lyric videos though.

Yeah. The first row of lyrics is Japanese Kanji, then there is the 'romaji' or English lettering of the words in Japanese (so how you'd read the Kanji), then the English translation. You were right in your guess on what it was.
