She had been a contestant on American Idol and she was so unique. She went really far in the competition but I felt like they didn't know what to do with her, since she doesn't fit the typical mold of a pop singer. I was happy to see she has found a home on that youtube jukebox channel, as their concept of remaking and jazzing up cover songs really suits her style of singing.
@jaybourne11852 жыл бұрын
yes... she is something. those other vocalist you mentioned are good but haley is a whole other level and maybe the best vocalist that i have heard in my life. i stumbled across her about year and half ago during the pandemic and have now listened to everything that she has put out on youtube (incl. pm, solo, interviews and americn idol performances, etc) , bought all 4 of her solo albums and the 2 essentials pmj albums that have her on it. in short, she just touches the soul like no other. the extensive range, growls, soft breathiness, scats, etc are all great but i think its something about quick fading vibrato that pull you emotionally in like she is only singing directly to you in a very personal way. the only other singer that had that kind effect on me was karen carpenter. their tones are very different but the effect is the same... recommend you react next to a couple of her other pmjs (seven nations army, don't speak), her elvis cover for extra (link in my post above) and maybe a few of her american idol performances to get a good overall idea of her true talent

excellent reaction. haley is one the greatest, most unique vocalist of our time. postmodern jukebox (or pmj) takes current popular songs and completely re-imagines them vintage (1920s to 1960s) in the music itself and style of the performances that actually take you back in time. they have a variety of good vocals but haley reinhart especially with postmodern jukebox is incredible. all the other haley/pmj ones are great also: "all about the bass", "habits", "black hole sun", "mad world", "seven nations army", "oops i did it again", "lovefool" and the very recent "don't speak" that definitely has the james bond vibe. i think what is so phenomenal about haley is not just her amazing silk to sandpaper voice but also her character and soul that she puts into the performances. even when she uses very little of her unique vocal acrobatics, her pure raw soft voice is amazing like in the intro of "creep". you see this even more in her solo platinum cover of "can't help falling in love" for the extra gum commercial which is truly stunning and frequently described as what love sounds like here: (kzbin.info/www/bejne/laaxoXiYqZyqldE )

The context of that performance was Haley faced biased judging on the show all season compared to the other contestants. In the later rounds when they did two performances, two of the judges would criticize her first song for things like song choice to suggest she had given a bad performance when she had not. That night, after her first performance, judge Steven Tyler told Haley, "Don't believe them!" That caused Randy Jackson to repeat his criticism in a shout. That upset Haley emotionally. This was Top 4 night. They then brought all four contestants out to have Randy Jackson proclaimed the first round a tie between the other three. Haley was nearly moved to tears and turned her head as the camera zoomed in right before a commercial break. When they came back from break, Haley was up and gave the “I (Who Have Nothing)” performance. Later that night, Steven Tyler told Ryan Seacrest that the other judges throwing Haley under the bus pissed him off. He said she had delivered her first song like "the blue plate special." He then observed the best singers have character and noted, "You watch Reinhart up there, every bad comment she gets rolls right off. That's how good she is."

I want to see Angelina try this again when she is Haley's age at this time. Her two ad-hoc performances on Tic-Toc and in her music corner gave us a hint of where she might take it but that is pure speculation. What would she do with it 20 years from now. One can only imagine... It is the only performance on my top ten list that is not Angelina. That says it all for me.

You're supposed to be transported to a 1920's hole in the wall bar. So, that was effective. Anything she does with Postmodern Jukebox is worth a listen. Go nuts. My other favorite is Morgan James. She's a classically trained opera singer with vocal power that defies her tiny little body. Her version of Aerosmith's "Dream On" is sublime. Scott Bradlee, the pianist, is the brain behind Postmodern Jukebox. He rearranges songs into mostly (mostly!) old jazz numbers and hires some of the best vocalists you have never heard of. It's a deep rabbit hole and there are many things down there that will surprise the heck out of you. Once again, go nuts and have fun listening to anything and everything that they do. This performance was done in one take after about a week of nightly performing on their European tour. Haley was tired and wasn't too happy with her vocals. Scott assured her that she was perfect and that another take was unnecessary. It's now the most viewed song on PMJ's web site. Thanks for the reaction. You're always good fun to watch. Peace
