I don't usually comment, but not only am I a proud member of the Tool army, you are my favorite reaction channel hands down. I'm also autistic, and I have never seen another reactor who just FEELS and analyzes the music the same way that I do, and I really wanted to offer a very autistic recommendation/request in terms of Tool. I said it in a separate comment originally, but I HAVE to recommend the live Drum Cam video of Tools song Pneuma. It's not necessary to listen to the studio version first, because even though they do have some really fantastic production on studio versions, they sound so incredibly amazing live and Pneuma is one of those songs that doesn't have as much of the studio production specific effects anyways. From an autistic perspective, the Pneuma drum cam video is just an absolute sensory EXPERIENCE of sight and sound, and you will get to see the insanity of the greatest drummer alive, Danny Carey. Known affectionately as "The Octopus" to fans, Danny Carey is a master of polyrhythm and syncopation, capable of playing 4 different beats at once, one with each limb. There's a running joke you can find posted on many Tool reaction videos that Danny Carey made a deal with the devil: to this day no one knows what Danny got, but the devil got drum lessons. He is one of the reasons there will never be another band like Tool again, because there will never be another Danny Carey. I also just really think that, given how really REALLY into the technical parts of music you get, and how fascinating you find particularly rock drumming, you will find it utterly riveting to watch not just a rock drummer, but particularly this man work close up. When I say no one can do what Danny Carey does, it is not an exaggeration. After the Pneuma drum cam, as far as Tool songs I would highly recommend to further your journey into them, in no particular order: Lateralus - Widely considered to be THE quintessential Tool song, it is difficult to describe, so all ill say is that it is based on the mathematic Fibonacci sequence Sober - specifically the 1993 live version because watching the lead singer perform this is POWERFUL, he is not just singing, it is a poignant and deeply moving physical performance about a man who struggles with addiction but can only create when under the influence, specifically an actual friend of the band. This song is brutal and raw, and this performance is THE rawest version of it in existence. The Grudge - another classic, you thought the scream he held in The Pot was long? Lol. Count the seconds on this one. Vicarious - not quite as musically complex as some of their other songs musically, but the lyrics, I think, will just grab you by the throat about how we, as a society, get off on watching tragedy and violence on TV, both fictional and real, that we are bloodthirsty living vicariously through death and destruction, and we "won't give pause until the blood is flowing". This song also makes very good use of the really cool studio production effects that you liked in The Pot Schism - one of their songs most famously known for its use of polyrhythms and switching time signatures, also lyrically a journey about humanity fighting amongst itself and falling apart, and the struggle to put the pieces back together after a fight even though you know they fit, you watched them fall. "I know the pieces fit" is the increasingly desperate refrain said over and over throughout the song, lamenting the inability to put them back together despite this. Jambi - a slightly heavier leaning entry in their catalogue, and also makes use of an item that many people are unfamiliar with, a "talkbox". A talkbox is an effects pedal with a tube that goes to the musician's mouth. Sound from an instrument is fed through it and modified and distorted by the musician changing the shape and level of openness of the tube. (This is a very bare bones explanation, they're really cool) Do yourself a favor and, avoid the official music videos though. They're really fascinating artistically, but they're just incredibly distracting and overwhelming acid trips visually and make it very hard to concentrate on the songs for a first time listen! This is also by no means a comprehensive list of songs, these are just a set of staple songs that are, I think, the best for someone getting into Tool, some more and some less complex, all of them extremely different but all so intrinsically Tool. I'm not a professional of any sort, just a really autistic fan and Tool holds a special place for me with the unique complexity of their work and the way it captivates, there is nothing else out their like them and there never will be again.

This is an extremely underrated aspect of production. On a related note, King Diamond has talked about how in the past so many artists (himself included) were obsessed with the music sounding perfect in a studio setting while totally neglecting how it actually sounds in practice (through consumer-grade headphones, in living rooms, in cars, etc.) and it made him re-evaluate how the mixing and mastering are done. You shouldn't need to buy thousands of dollars worth of audio equipment in order to "properly" listen to an album.

It amazes me that nobody who reviews this song ever mentions the cool pre-echo before the 2 first lines. “Who are you” and “eye hole deep”, those words are said twice but the first is waaaaay in the background just above silent. It’s a really cool nuance in the song and needs more recognition
@EduardoMora699 ай бұрын
That was the first thing i noticed the first time i heard this song. Made it feel kind of psychedelic
@TheM4DH1PP08 ай бұрын
Sorry to necro. The “pre echo” is bleed through of a previous take. It’s a thing with magnetic tape that sometimes previous information doesn’t get completely overwritten during silence. Imo it was accidental, and while they could have cleaned it up in production it was one of the best accidents ever so they left it in. Sometimes genius is recognizing that imperfections and accidents are beautiful too.

@@TheM4DH1PP0 except that almost nobody records to tape anymore. It’s all protools now.
@unbroken53946 ай бұрын
@TheM4DH1PP0 While that is a thing on some older recorded songs, you don't get that much on modern recordings. This is also something Tool did on earlier tracks, as well. You can hear it on "Jimmy," for example.

"The Pot" by Tool is often interpreted as a commentary on hypocrisy and self-righteousness. The lyrics suggest a sense of calling out someone who is judgmental and critical, yet guilty of similar behavior. The metaphor of a "pot calling the kettle black" is prevalent in the song. Overall, it explores themes of accountability and the irony of accusing others while overlooking one's own flaws.

Maynard James Keenan is the lead singer as a vocalist and front man he's an interesting character treating his voice as just another instrument in the band. Sometimes singing softly in the background sometimes out in front tearing up the track but more often weaving in and out with the guitars blending beautifully. He's a very shy man who struggles with crippling stage fright regularly hiding at the back or side of the stage in the shadows not even facing the crowd during gig's to avoid the attention he finds so difficult to cope with.
