That chorus is not happy and "yay" lol. Constant double kicks, riffs, etc. Yeah it has clean vocals, but it's still heavy. And the melody is very good.

OK, it wasn't as extreme as Poppy did with the song Concrete for example, but I always like to look at the whole track and if the verse parts are quieter and then a melodic chorus comes along then it's fine. Personally, I think the verse part indicated that it could be a very aggressive song and I found the chorus a bit too soft for that. But as I said, it's still a good song. Only not what I expected.

As for Japanese crowds a few things to remember. Some venues do not allow pits, some shows like this one were still under covid restrictions that would not even allow screaming or yelling from the crowd plus Japanese crowds are more likely to thinking pits are just not a part of the show. Japanese bands that constantly have pits are Maximum the Hormone, Hanabie and yes Babymetal. Like others if you want a more harsh sound Zen live or just released Brainwash are pretty hard. I appreciate your honest but respectful opinion.

Oh ok, didn't knew about the covid restrictions and that some venues have some rules like this. that totally makes sense. And yeah I think it has something to do with the Japanese culture in general too. Will definitely check out Brainwash because you are the third who recommended that to me, so it must be very good I guess ;)

The thing with Nemophila is they are optimists at heart and this perspective is nearly always present to some extent in their lyrics, vocals, etc. If you are looking for 'hard' Nemophila the best bet would be 'Zen' and 'Brainwash' which are nearly 100% harsh vocals. Give those a try. If you still find you are not connecting with them then I would look elsewhere. It's not about sounding "happy". thats not a problem for me. I only expected something different after I've heard the first verse. definitely check out Brainwash!

@crIIEEpz I see. Well they do have a ton of songs and a wide range of style so you may find others more to your preference. And to be clear, I don't have an extensive background in metal so my expectations are amateurish for sure. I'll be interested to see what you think of Brainwash.

There's some moshing, headbanging and circlepits going on in Japan...but this is probably not the right video for that I think. Time of recording (around covid time) and video location are definitely influential on this. If you want to see this, try looking for some metalcore gigs in the Antiknock venue in Shinjuku. Peter from the MNN channel uploaded a nice concert video (around 15 mins of length) from the band Gungire. That's the metalcore band of singer Nana, who is also session vocalist for the band Fate Gear.

Oh, I didn't know that it was filmed during Covid and that some venues had such rules, but of course that makes complete sense! And I think it also has something to do with the Japanese culture in general. Of course there are Japanese bands where people go crazy, but especially with non-Japanese bands you've seen it in the past with Rammstein or Slipknot, for example, Only with visual kei bands it seems that the audience is more reserved I would say, but of course, everything could have changed a bit over time.
