Agreed: parts of the movie didn't hold up: 1.) Prince's music and 2.) Some of the Joker scene cuts are rough, but overall, I agree it's a masterpiece, and it has one of the best fight scenes as Batman confrots Joker's thugs ih the Cathedrals belfry. That was beautifullly done, short, meaningful violence with the Joker srenading his love interest in the background.

Burton's vision was special. He made this world a delicious blend of corrupt cityscape and film noir shadows/danger, wonderfully larger than life and brimming with menace. I still remember how important the film's release was to people who thrive on fantastical creations. The anticipation was heavy. Then when we finally saw it, we were blown away by the whole look and also Elfman's sweeping score.
