The Riddler is one of the greatest examples of “What differs a supervillain from a villain is presentation.” You know that he doesn't have actual super powers, most of the time doesn't even have resources or gangs to commit big crimes, but something about him tells you that he just can't be stopped by regular people. You know he'd always find a way to escape the asylum and start preparing for his next personal ego show.

The Riddler is my all-time favourite Batman villain and honestly in my opinion the Arkham games have the best depiction of The Riddler outside the comics. Wally Wingert who voiced the character in all 4 games always delivered such an incredible performance that always managed to perfectly capture Riddler's obsessive personality, massive ego and superiority complex. Whenever I read comics with Riddler it's Wally's voice I hear in my head.

This is hands down THE Riddler of a lifetime. I loved him as the socially awkward guy at the GCPD, loved that his downward spiral into such a comical character was very believable, loved him as The Penguin's friend and love interest (that subplot was truly something else), and loved him after he chilled down a bit and just did his own thing. He was perfect to contrast The Penguin who's always evolving in the show; once his true colors showed, The Riddler never tries to change, didn't even have the capacity to imagine it despite his smarts, because some vain part of him insists that he's already better than everybody else. And in some aspects, he was. Whenever he had the chance to flex his intelligence, I always think the GCPD and Gordon in particular must really rue the day such a good pair of hands chose the darker path.

i agree, the whole dual personality shtick was a bit weird, but then i realized it wasnt so much a dual personality but him going through a transition and the only way he could cope was by talking to himself seeing as he thinks hes the smartest person in the world. i mean there are a lot of undertones with that but yeah, in execution it was done well and in the end we didnt get it as much when the final episodes came about
@Lugbzurg Жыл бұрын
That could've been a smoother way to implement the dual personality. Instead of just "his darker psyche" like Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin, this other him forms as a result of him having no one else around him on his mental level and feeling so psychologically tortured by this, he essentially created the only person who could match him; Himself.

I actually really like the two Nygma persona transition. I couldn’t see this version of Nygma go into crime so easily after having been against it for so long. They did it kind of like how Star Wars did it, where the protagonist, Anakin, was slowly more and more tipping away from the good side; but he did not make a full switch until the very very last second. I like also that the two personality thing is temporary, purely meant to be the transition between Nygma to The Riddler.

I feel like I gravitated towards Edward because it fascinated me how a villain I used to hate now had a character and not only that but one with relationships and a backstory that isn’t just “I killed people and turned bad” same goes with Oswald I love how his relationship with his mother is and how he takes his life in her steps while helping Edward and bonding with him (personally I think it was a bit more than a friendship but fox being fox probably didn’t like that) but either way Gotham made me feel connected to these characters and feel represented in a way since I relate to some of the things with his new characteristics. I always loved the Riddler, more than any of the other villains. It never made sense until Gotham, honestly. Coincidentally, not long after the show started airing (like 3 years after maybe), all of my friends told me I was a perfect fit for Asperger's. I denied it at first... but, eventually researched it, and noticed it fit almost 100%... like 95% maybe? But, further... on watching, and rewatching, Gotham, I noticed Riddler was very similar in symptoms. But, I was also a big fan of Arkham games, and of DCUO. So, when playing those... I noticed the symptoms of even 'different Riddlers', were similar, and strong enough... THOSE too were Asperger's by symptoms... Riddler, no matter how portrayed, seems to always have been Asperger's. Which answers why I, Asperger's myself apparently, always loved Riddler more than other villains. Gotham is probably the most exact to the type... adding the extreme social awkwardness to the rest of everything, with not picking up on social cues like 'Friend, but not romantic' from the first woman in the show.
@DarkBandicoot Жыл бұрын
RIDDLER! (Did I do it right?) I would love a part 2 actually, and a Hugo Strange video! While not outright mentioned in the video, Ed is autistic, which was sort of confirmed by Cory when he said he researched that to get a feel for the character, how Ed would act and see things, the things he'd do, etc. One of these things was that in s3, he'd copy what Oswald would do, like raising or lowering his voice at certain times to appear more threatening I think? (I can't remember the details exactly, but if you wanted to research that, it's out there). Another thing about Ed's Riddler personality is that it's always believed to have been there rather than just spawning. 2 clues to this is that when we are introduced to his other side, there is no surprise from Ed, like the 2 of them are already acquainted, and the other was the convo in Lucius' car when he said someone else was inside him all his life. The Riddler acts like a shield to protect Ed from danger, because Ed doesn't have the capability to handle stressful situations well. The Riddler may be mean to him, but he's also there to do the work Ed can't. He's also not really around for a lot of s3, because for half the season, Ed was at his most stable. He had a home, a job, and a best friend/love interest (sort of), and it wasn't until the whole betrayal thing that Ed fell apart and the Riddler was properly born. Again, as a protector. Something to perhaps mention if you do a part 2. :D

I think Jim rash who voiced riddler in the Harley Quinn show could be a great riddler with the right script
