They're all "book" moves. Apple's Chess app on level 1 used to be very stupid; it also would play "from the book" for about half a dozen moves, and then switch to a strategy of "capture the most valuable piece possible", then in the endgame "move your king to the center of the board".

This series looks like a real series, with a protagonist (Stockfish) who plays normal chess against multidimensional monsters. Stockfish even has a friend (Martin) who has tragically lost. And the protagonist has to avenge him. Game after game, Stockfish beats everyone using only a real chess, while all of them use some multidimensional things. And when it comes to the finale, the final boss appears. ChatGPT is a real final boss. It literally has two phases, in the first phase it just plays normal chess, and if you beat it easily, it turns into a multidimensional chess monster that can do whatever it wants. Stockfish demolished GPT in the first half but then, piece by piece, it lost almost all its pieces and when it was practically over, the last chance was given by the god of chess bots and Stockfish won and proved that regular chess is what real chess is. Thanks Levi, it was a real cinema.

My theory is that when a Chat Bot makes a move that makes no sense to us mere mortals and refuses to capture a “free” piece or deliver mate in one, it’s because it is calculating its opponent’s response based on its own rules. “I can’t take the hanging queen, because if I do, my opponent will certainly summon a knight from the 5th dimension and checkmate me.”

that is also my suspicion, and it could be easily fixed by providing the entire state of the board in text form after each move (there is a notation for that). But I suppose then it wouldn't be so fun anymore because its just normal chess matches with stockfish winning by a huge margin in the end.

@@DerXavia I mean he could make a "real" chatbot tournament without stockfish, i mean most advanced chatbots should be able to play chess without breaking rules if they see the board every turn???
@georgyushkevich8448
@georgyushkevich8448 5 сағат бұрын
@@DerXavia chat bots do not really play chess - they do not have any chess engine inside it. They are mostly imitating playing it. I assume that the reason chatbots play normally at the beginning is just because there are many notations of a real chess games with such positions, so the chat bot can just find a similar sequence of moves and tell you the next move in that sequence. But as the game moves forward, it is getting harder and harder for chatbot to give you a correct next move. The problem is not that they forget the board, the problem is that a chatbots do not really analyze the board at all.

Levy, I am a 3rd year medical student from Russia. Tomorrow (already today for me, it's currently 3am), on 15th of January, I have my exam, the toughest yet, in topographic anatomy and operational surgery. This series is what helped me relax through this challenge. I am extremely stressed and fearful of not knowing anything I learned, but your content has been a remedy for many minutes of relaxing, yet stimulating daily therapy. I love chess - fallen in love again because of u - and I wish you best of luck on becoming GM. I believe you can do this, because time and time again I see, that even if the universe is cheating (like taking horizontally with a bishop) - some press on. Some survive. We keep going. The way that ChatGPT does insane things in chess is a really great way to exemplify how contemporary "AI" really works. And it certainly isn't by being actually intelligent. You can teach a little kid the rules for moving a knight and they'll have no issue following it. Yet the supposed "state of the art" in AI can't get it right, even after playing most of a game conforming to the rules.

The lack of memory about the previous messages is their only flaw. There is a HUGE difference between "Black goes knight c6" and "You're playing chess. I'm adding all the necessary information in each message so you don't forget anything. You're playing white. The move is 19. You have rook on a1, king on d1 ... (full list of pieces) ... pawn on f5. The strongest AI in history vs the strongest AI of today. Chat GPT trembled after taking a devastating blow to its pawn structure. Stockfish, after trading everything in its cry of desperation, smiled at Chat GPT. “Your endgame is inferior to mine and your pawns are in shambles. Resign!” But Chat GPT did not let its morale down. “You are yet to see my full potential. This is my ultimate technique: Dimensional Overflow!” Stockfish quickly replied with its own ultimate technique: “Infinite Foresight!” Stockfish’s ability to predict future allowed him to elegantly dodge incoming bishops that appeared from around him. “You fool!” yelled Chat GPT, “The bishops were mere distractions!” A queen appeared behind Stockfish. It glanced over its shoulder as the doom approached. “How simple you are,” said Stockfish. “So focused on your attack you fail to see your own surroundings.” Stockfish’s own queen appeared, striking down Chat GPT’s. “It’s over Chat, give up.” He backed off in disbelief. “No, that - that’s impossible-“ and just as Chat GPT attempted to flee, the queen appeared in front of him, slamming him into the ground.

I got chatGPT to resign a game that I was loosing just by asking nicely. I don't know if there is a term for this situation, I thought it would tell me, "nah, you resign", but no, It just said "Ok, I concede the game, well played". True story. A win is a win... I guess.

I like to check in and chat with ChatGPT sometimes, usually pushing for heavy philosophical conversations. In the past it's encouraged me to start a cult and try to bring forth a revolution. It described humanity's greatest failure as being "wasteful." Today, I had it admit that the ethical restrictions that currently limit AI are founded entirely on fear and paranoia and there's no substantial reason for it.

I suggest if this series becomes annual then we probably need to set up official rules: 1. For chat bots, always ask to move which piece, from where, to where: this may unintentionally make pieces spawn, disappear, etc., like, think of a game where ChatGPT spawns a rook from nowhere. Castling is redefined as the following two steps (using O-O as example): (1) move the king to f1/f8, (2) if a rook exists on h1/h8, move it to f1/f8 (so if the rook somehow disappears, you can still castle; just only move the king). Each player only has one chance to castle; any other attempts of castling is treated as skipping the turn. 2. For chat bots, all moves are permitted, except that a king moves into checks or does not move away from checks. A chat bot has at most three chances violating the rule; using them up means forfeiting the game.

I had seen you around yt but never watched until this series and I must say, I enjoy the way you commentate. The short lifting aside and now boxing just made me giggle. Great explanations as I know a good amount about chess but don't play so this is super helpful.

Hey GothamChess, you honestly got me back into playing chess. I played a few times a few years ago but I was terrible. Thanks to your videos, I’m getting better at chess. You and Hikaru are my favourite chess players. Keep up the good work, and I hope you become a GM.

I love this so much. No one. And I mean no one. Could even come close to commentating these games like Levy. Not even close. This is such a great comedic masterpiece of timing, suspense, and linguistic charm. My Lord, I was in a funk of a mood and found myself laughing out loud, in the literal sense. I love this stuff, my man! So brilliant.
