One has to consider though, that a lot of the Indian chess prodigies only have an absolute basic school education. As far as I know they basically quit school after around elementary school, thus having endless time to study chess afterwards. This is not comparable to the situation in western countries where chess players often finish high school at age 18.

Man, these interviews are just freaking amazing. Levy has done his homework on each player, and has prepared personalised questions based on it. Plus this is more like a conversation, and such a breath of fresh air. None of the answers are like media trained answers. All of this, humanises each of the players. Seriously, amazing work.

Because it’s the best players in the world and the margins are razor thin. It’s normal to expect players like Hikaru, Fabiano and Ian to be favourites considering they all have higher ELOs than Gukesh and way more experience. Credit to Gukesh for overperforming expectations and putting himself in a position to win the tournament though
