@@Mediocre_Gaming1917Yeah this is me. I feel like i start doing a lot better in the mid to late game when the board starts to get simplified and I’ve figured out the flow of the game and what my current attack plan is. The opening is always a clusterf- for me because I can’t memorize an opening past like 2-3 moves, and with so many pieces on the board and everything all tangled up, it’s easy to miss something.

If you're 800-900 and wish to overcome the 1000 barrier, just learn an opening for black and for white with a few of the most common variations, and I promise that you'll get there easily. For me, just doing that took me all the way to almost 1300. Also, do a lot of puzzles and always analyze your games, especially when you lose.

yeah, i had no trouble reaching 1000 in rapid. but i'm nowhere close to that in blitz. i feel like tutorial videos can help my rapid game by teaching me new concepts. but these new concepts make my blitz game worse because it is just one more thing to think about which makes it more likely for me to blunder rook queen or mate.

Stop focusing on trying to do fancy high level stuff and just play casually. Look at each move (both yours and your opponents) very thoroughly and see what it does, what it threatens, what other pieces are affected by it moving. Doing that will practically ensure you make no blunders. That will easily get you to 1100

i play like a normal 1000 elo player but i made the mistake of starting an account at a beginner elo rating because it feels like i get scrub stomped or cheated against lmao. it makes me realize that a lot of low players no nothing at all about openings and it ends up throwing me off at times because ill be doing something and all of a sudden there will be either the dumbest move ever or the best engine move on accident or maybe on purpose and it keeps me bouncing in the 3 number elos

Except chess is not a team game, so you can't be held back like in rocket league. You should get a feel for the game if you want to improve, not just memorize an opening. If your opponent makes an unexpected move just take some time to analyse if it's a good move, a blunder or neutral.

Crossing 1000 elo was the bane of my existence. I barely crossed it, lost about 10 games in a row, went back to around 950, very slowly got back to 1000 after about a month just for the whole thing to happen again. This repeated for 5 times. I am now 1350 blitz and 1400 rapid but i still remember the struggle and elo anxiety vividly.

Bro right?! It's like a pattern every 100 elo gain for me, like the website knows I crossed a boundary and is like, 'oh yeah time to punish this fool' so they send me back 125 elo over two days and then the next two days I get it all back by playing easier opponents. I'm rated 1400 rapid but I probably still play like a 1250

I would say that bishop going backwards at 14:48 was to safeguard against getting forked by your knight taking that pawn at d4 you were talking about. It also covers the pawn at c2, where your knight might eventually go and fork king and rook. Seems to me that it did not make sense to you only because you purposefully ignored knight takes d4 at that point.
