If you scared of pawn storm don't play open sicilians or closed king's indians. Also, you don't want to push pawn's in front of the King, as those can be used as hooks (unless your pawn push is intended to blokade the storm). And pawn storm is way slower if you don't have any pieces in front of pawn storm (opponent can't win tempi). If it is the opposite side castling situation then create counter attack. That's General tips i can give you.

The psychology of bad beginner moves can be interesting to pick apart. Sure the move is bad but there is often a reason behind it. Misreading the board, failure to calculate far enough or at all, being nervous because the position feels sharp (regardless if it is or isn't), miscounting etc. Some of those pawn moves by black looked to me like he knew he was winning but he couldn't figure out if there was a mate so he thought maybe just try to get another queen on the board. These same themes exist and can lead to blunders at intermediate level as well. For instance today I lost a game because of a critical piece of information I failed to recognize. Given the pieces aimed at the square in question, I believed I had the right number to go ahead and initiate the exchange. All well and fine. Just one problem. On the final move the pawn I needed to capture with was pinned because of the piece that captured one move earlier. The pin was only possible because of a move I made and discovered for my opponent. Because of that I lost a bishop and the game, from a +6 position.
@ailst2 жыл бұрын
Yeah. When black played h5 and he couldn’t wrap his head around it, I was like: Dude, the pawn is attacked! Moving it prevents losing it. Yes, there’s also stuff like dealing with check-mate-threats or check-mating the opponent. But we can deal with that after bringing our pawn to safety!
@Mr12Relic Жыл бұрын
I had the same issue where my king was in the corner and my trade pawn was pinned to it by their rook. Absolutely devastated. They had M1, but my only legal move was to put my rook into their queen's diagonal and their rook's horizontal path. They needed to take the rook with their queen. Rooks facing scared them, so they took it with the rook. I sent my bishop to nab their other rook beside their castled king, not actually threatening anything further, unless they get distracted and take it, exposing the king. They did. My queen managed to dance checks while taking all the threats off my king. Eventually I aimed my queen and a rook at the pawn in front of their backrow king and they blundered a bishop out of the rook's way.

@@khvichadasilva7668 True. People generally seem to think that chess improvement is linear, but in reality, it seems to be more logarithmic. A beginner can climb their rating pretty fast, as there are plenty of things for them to improve on. This is especially true if they really apply themselves and play a lot of games and study theory extensively. A more advanced player has already learned all the basics and knows things that would drastically improve their game, so their improvements are more incremental. So because of all this, the higher you climb in your rating, the harder it gets to climb even higher.
