If Stockfish sacrifices material seemingly for no reason in the endgame (sometimes even a full queen), it's probably because it's close to getting into a theoretical (100%) known win according to the tablebase. It sacrifices the pieces to get into a known win faster (a position with 6 or 7 pieces on the board).
@javrancheng9917 Жыл бұрын
That's also my guess, if I'm not mistaken, the game is Superfinal game 88, and sf already given 150+ evaluation on move 53.

I think the engines are only given 6 piece tablebase not 7 and that's why Leela instantly resigned when there are only 6 pieces left
@MacDaniboi Жыл бұрын

@RedArremer Жыл бұрын
I posted this as well. It's because of TB probing. I'm surprised at how little chess masters know about how these chess engines work, seeing as how they have to use them all the time in pre-game prep. Also there's a lot of people confused in the comments asking why Leela didn't get a shot as white in the same opening. TCEC does in fact give each side a chance at the same opening, and SF still blew Leela out of the water with something like 18 winning game pairs to just ONE for Leela.

I mean, to an engine, a known win is no different than a checkmate, so logically, a known win in 2 would be preferred to a checkmate in 3.
