Also, Karyakin gets hate because he took Russian citizenship after the Ukrainian coup in 2014, refused to play under a neutral flag and went into politics instead with a strong antifascist position, which basically ended his promising chess career because he stood on principle. Cheaters don't have balls this big.

I feel like everyone kinda talks about him like they talk about Nepo, "ohh, he's good but he's not great, he kinda just lucked his way into the championship, he's an asterisk on the title". The play on the move Nd3 felt premature and weirdly timed, black didn't have enough pieces to cover the light squares and the d file... But I just went along with the story since it was a GM who was playing it and the evaluation bar wasn't there 😆
