This was such a great conversation, loved all the stories. Sam’s courses and philosophy on the game have been a huge part of my improvement the last couple of years, always great to see him do stuff like this

Really good to get to know who Sam Shankland is, other than a fleeting interview about how a particular game went. The whole jungle thing was a surprise....just didn't think it would be most GM chess players kind of thing, nevermind Sam's, only because he seems content not being in the limelight. Anyway, very much enjoyed listening to his interview. You always manage the perfect balance of relaxing your guests and just having a good conversation that leaves viewers with a new perspective on the person and how the chess world operates at top level.

Well that was cool. Sam was an excellent guest and you kept some very interesting dialogue going. I particularly thought the conversation about how Sam handled the tutoring load/pricing was noteworthy since we have the perspectives of yourself and last week's guest Naroditsky to compare with the pricing encouraged by the burgeoning private chess lesson scene in NY.

This podcast is what I been waiting for, really. Sam is cool. I've watched one video where he trained an IM, on chess dojo, for like a game, and man... Really shifts the perspective. To me, an IM is Hercules, and to Sam an IM is a kid playing with sand while Shankland draws up plans for Eifel Tower. Such difference. Looking at same position I'm lost and unable to find any plans. IM has some immediate ideas. And then comes in Sam pointing out stuff which an IM finds ultra fascinating and unable to even think about. Good stuff. Also, as a Japanese guy, I say Nakamura is pure American. Everything that matters is American with Nakamura. Name, place of birth and bloodline don't make up a person. Not at all.
@JohnSmith-me4ik
@JohnSmith-me4ik 2 жыл бұрын
I agree on the first two but bloodline literally makes up a person.
@user-un-known
@user-un-known 2 жыл бұрын
@@JohnSmith-me4ik Bloodline does not make up a person on it's own. Environment makes up a person. Said environment can include information related to bloodline, and thus potentially affect a person in some way depending on how they react to the knowledge, but that's about it. I've seen enough people who's bloodline and environment does not match. All of them were products of environment. I myself am one of such people.
