I HATE modern goth fashions. Killstar, Dolls Kill, these stupid "serial killer documentaries and chill" shirts I see everywhere. Everyone looks the same. Everyone dresses the same and uses the same makeup and hair styles. I'm so sad that I never got to experience this era of goth fashion. I pretty much only buy vintage clothes, these beautiful defunct goth brand clothes are so hard to find.

Same! I use Depop to look for a lot of old school goth clothing. Raven sdl and Omen are very sought after. Lip service as well. I miss the cybergoth look.

I agree 100 percent. When you look back at late 70s early 80s when goth started, those people looked super goth!! And that was all before there were goth designers!!! They literally had the best style that you don't really see anymore. Well, there are still people who dress trad goth and death rock but there is too much manufactured tacky goth clothing, that I would never buy. I know you're talking about 90s goth fashion but I love it just the same.

Killstar definitely gotten crappy over the years, don't buy my shit from Dolls kill. Dracula clothing is an amazing website for classy goth clothing very Victorian and the corsets are amazing. For sure is hard to find good goth clothing, The quality of killstar clothing isn't amazing for how expensive it is. Now I tend to make my own clothes and jewelry.

I wear old school Goth clothes. They were out of my price range when new years ago, and nowadays I can afford some of it. I love Tripp, nyc. Lip Service, which runs very true to size. But I agree that the Goth fashion has lost it's original look. Even by 1998 standards though, it was considered shocking to dress in all black, don a pallor, dark lipsticks, dark eyeshadows, but I wouldn't trade my early Goth years for nothing. I loved being Goth then and still love it now. Funny thing is nobody asks me if I found Jesus anymore. 🤷‍♀️ 😁 Nowadays I get a lot of compliments. But, eh, it's all good. The modern Goth fashion has really gone down hill. It used to be DIY clothes, thrift store black clothes, second hand shoes. I had an original pair of Docs, loved them until they wore out! Then I got a second hand pair online. I find that black velvet ensembles and just regular black jeans are my favorites. Back in the day, I wore stretch f**** jeans by Lip Service, fishnets (still do), and burgundy velvet shirts. I'd say I strived for a typical Goth look back then since "trad goth" really wasn't used back in the late 90's/early 2000's to my recollection. Nowadays, I'd probably be mistaken for a mall Goth, haha. 😄 I enjoyed the comments. Very spot on! 🦇👍😎

I like that they showed goths of all ages in this documentary nowadays you mainly see only young goths portrayed in the media which I think is quite sad because there are many elder goths out there and i'd love to hear there perspectives and experiences of the gothic culture as well.
@EB1878

I'd be happy to share mine. I'm an elder Goth and been in the subculture since 1998. I agree that most, if not all, the young teenagers today trying to be Goth have simply missed the boat (and completely trampled the early subculture and what it once stood for). I see so many Tiktok fake Goths, poser Goths of Instagram and 80 % KZbin has click bait Goth, but I've yet to find anything from us elder Goths, except Professor M. As far as the fashion Goth hauls, unboxing videos those are very boring I find, and very repetitive. When I was a baby bat in 1998, I bought my Goth wardrobe from thrift shops. My first pointy toe boots are authentic Victorian era (I still kept them). I paid $75 for them in 1998 and that was a lot of money to plunk down since I was barely in my 20's back then. From there I had just three tiny Goth makeup accessories: Manic Panic Goth white cream, dreamtone white foundation, and one Manic Panic virgin white pressed powder. I used black eyeliner for lipstick until I could afford to get the Manic Panic lipsticks. I do miss the shade Deadly Nightshade, it was eggplant in color, a little shine but not too much. I used Rimmel eyeshadows, and NYC brand. My wardrobe was manly velvet burgundy tops, black velvet and heavy metal bracelets and chokers. Nowadays, I'm hounded by gender confused teenagers asking me where do I buy my 90's Red Balls on Fire coats, where do I get my black lipstick, etc. And I've had a few geezers try to ask me on dates. No thanks. I'm not THAT old and I'd be more inclined to find a man closer to my age with similar interests, hobbies, etc. 🙂

@jennyx3x375 awesome thank you! Sorry for my late reply getting back to you. 🙂 Yes, I've since watched her. She has some great videos, especially the "get ready with me ", which I found informative as it was hilarious to see how fast we Goths get ready in a hurry. I usually just slap on the makeup and return home at the end of the day looking like Piasco sometimes. Hah! 😆 Thanks for mentioning her. Always appreciated. ❤️ 🦇

@@thatbitchnoemie They usually tend to film very overdressed people for such types of documentaries. These people are more of an extreme and not represenrative of the scene as a whole, which was mostly about DIY and thrifting. The majority of Goths dressed very simple since the 80s. Plus, in the 90s goth became popular and mainstream enough that there were shops selling these clothes, so you suddenly had a small influx of people with expensive clothes. I do know people who were goth since the 80s and they really didn't like the 90s' kids "style over substance" attitude.

@JackDanyaKemplin thank you for uploading this. I finished watching it. Very insightful. The classic Goth styles take me back to when I was a baby bat in those early years. 🖤 I especially enjoyed the Dark Shadows/Collinsport players segment and the snippet with Laura Parker (the witch Angelique of Dark Shadows). I went to the 97' DS festival. Met a lot of fellow fans, some pen pals, had a wonderful time. I met Laura Parker and Kathryn Leigh Scott. Both every personable and down to earth. I met several more cast of DS. And a year later gravitated to Goth by 98'. I think the interest in the original gothic soap opera Dark Shadows also harmonizes with the spookiness, the dark Goth asetetics, styles, etc. Little, if at all do I see these younger Goths nowadays show any interest of getting together in person at such events outside of their tik tok worlds that it's amazing they even make friends in real life. Times seemed simpler in the 90's without the spoils of cell phones being commonplace and whatnot. 🙂🦇
