Here’s my new tune ‘Gothic Flame’. It was inspired by late 18th and early 19th century British Gothic/Horror/Romance literature and especially Edgar Allan Poe and the illustrations of the French illustrator, painter, artist Gustave Doré (1832-1893) who illustrated the massive book of Poe’s The Raven, some of which I used in the video. More inspiration and the title of the song came from this book: The Gothic Flame: Being a History of the Gothic Novel in England: Its Origins, Efflorescence, Disintegration, and Residuary Influences by Devendra P. Varma.
Lyrics:
OPIUM DREAMS
LOST IN MOONBEAMS
IN DARK WILDERNESS
WHERE I LOVE THE BEST
I FELT HER BREATH
TOO SOON IT LEFT
NOW MIDNIGHT CALLS
BOUNCE OFF MY WALLS
I USED MY WILL
TO CLIMB THAT HILL
A FACE IN SHADOWS
IT COMES AND IT GOES
QUEEN JANE IN DISGUISE
WITH VAMPYRE EYES
INTO THE FOG
FOUND WHAT WAS LOST
PAGAN FABLES BRONTE’S MOORS
ON PENDLE HILL YOU MAKE HER YOURS
1000 MILES I’D SEEK
TO TASTE THE SALT UPON HER CHEEK
IN SALSBURY PLAIN
I FOUND MY GOTHIC FLAME
MIST BLOWS MY WAY
EACH NIGHT AND EACH DAY
A DREAM WAS IN BLOOM
IT WOKE UP THE MOON
A WOMAN IN WHITE
OR WAS IT MOONLIGHT?
A RAVEN FLEW BY
ONE NIGHT IN JULY
I USED MY WILL
TO MAKE IT REAL
NEVER THE SAME
MY GOTHIC FLAME
