nah the monas heiroglyphica is what you're thinking and that was only adopted by ghostmane but it was originally john dees. the mercury symbol is an alchemy symbol but some people think of it as an occult/goth symbol

I don't really follow astrology but I'm a Gemini with Virgo Ascending, both governed by Mercury. As I remember from the natal chart twenty years ago, I also have a moon in Mercury. I've always loved quicksilver as my favourite metal, Wednesday as my favourite day, however 5 is my number not 6, according to numerology. I've long enjoyed the symbol and used to draw it in all my school books back when. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and ideas on the relevance of this symbol and our beloved subculture.

Mercury is something really special to me in a lot of ways. I'm both trans, obsessed with space, and a hellenic polytheist (believing in the Greek gods). 6 is my favorite number. Hermes is actually also one of my favorite gods (shhh that's our little secret) and with all of that combined I've always been so drawn to Mercury.

I always felt drawn to it without even knowing anything about it and then when I read about it I found out that it has so many connections that fit me.

I haven't really seen the Mercury symbol as part of the gothic "subculture". The planetary symbols are cool, but I associate them with Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon is really quite dark, so it is gothic in a sense. Most people are too ignorant to realize that. I don't associate the Mercury symbol with goths and if I was going to wear Mercury symbol jewelry, it would be because of my love for Sailor Moon - not because I'm goth.

I'd say Thanatos is probably more associated with ferrying the dead to the underworld in Greek Mythology than Hermes, and there's actually several other gods who seem to totally fine going in and out of the underworld in that pantheon - most notably Persephone (though since she's one of the rulers of the underworld, that's kind of to be expected,) but Dionysus is also noted for doing so (though it should also be noted that in some versions of his backstory Hades and Persephone were among his foster parents, or his biological parents, or most disturbingly make him the son of Persephone and Zeus - all of which would explain why he can go in and out without consequence.) A notable example that doesn't have any relation to the underwold as far as I know but was still able to enter and leave without issue is Eros god of attraction (and also lack of attraction, but that detail's less well known.) In theory Apollo probably can do so as well, since he stuck the literal sun in the underworld at one point in the Odyssey because he was mad that some dudes ate his pet cows (things happen in Greek mythology) but I guess in theory he could have just shoved it in there without actually going in himself, and that one DID have SOME consequences since Hades had to go to Olympus and yell at his brother to a better job controlling his children. You could also make a case for counting Heracles, who was eventually turned into a god, but he was only a demi-god during his trips to the underworld. If I remember correctly, Nyx, Hypnos, and Hypnos's three sons also all live in the underwold, but I don't actually remember if they actually leave it after taking up residence there. There's probably more I'm forgetting - there was a whole movement in ancient Greece called Orphaeic Hellenism that focused specifically on gods and other mythological figures that could enter and leave the underworld, it's actually pretty neat, though like most of Greek mythology be prepared for incest if you decide to look into it.

For example, Hermes was a messenger of the Gods in general, guiding souls to the underworld was someone else's job (Charon, the ferryman). But, he could go there if he wanted to, so it's not inaccurate.

These days, People create symbols according to their own needs. On the other hand, if you try to undermine a symbol to represent a planet created by people from ancient civilizations that new a lot better about the circles, energies, and powers of Mother Nature and the Universe in general, then I suggest you read a bit more and search for more knowledge. If you want a symbol that is gender fluid, and that is, if you're talking about male and female in one, then you have the Star of David, which is two triangles, one is male and the other female to create the six pointed star.
