The bible actually DOES say what the mark was, but it's in the original hebrew. The word used in Genesis 4:15 is strongs 226 א֔וֹת "oth" (a sign) so it could possibly be this: You then take the original hebrew and use the ancient Hebrew meanings and symbols. Aleph is the ox head or "leader / strength" Vav is the tent peg "secure, add, hook" And then Tav is the crossed sticks "sign / mark / monument" Based on the original ancient Hebrew the mark is described as an "X" or possibly a Cross physically engraved or fastened (like a tattoo) on his forehead or his shoulders / biceps (the strength).

There wasn’t just three people left. Genesis 5:4 tells us that Adam “became father to sons and daughters.” Evidently, these other descendants of Adam and Eve could have posed a threat to Cain. People also lived for hundreds of years back then, so there were many people around.

Nowhere does it say that he is black....that is assumption (imagination)... The nature of the mark on Cain has been the subject of much debate and speculation. The Hebrew word translated "mark" is 'owth and refers to a “mark, sign, or token.” Elsewhere in the Hebrew Scriptures, 'owth is used 79 times and is most frequently translated as "sign." So, the Hebrew word does not identify the exact nature of the mark God put on Cain. Whatever it was, it was a sign/indicator that Cain was not to be killed. Some propose that the mark was a scar, or some kind of tattoo. Whatever the case, the precise nature of the mark is not the focus of the passage. The focus is that God would not allow people to exact vengeance against Cain. Whatever the mark on Cain was, it served this purpose.

The Bible doesn’t say that a sign or a mark was placed on Cain’s person in any way. The sign likely consisted of a solemn decree that was known and and observed by others that was intended to prevent his being killed out of revenge.

Speculation beyond what is taught us unhelpful and unwise. That is what led to the racist teaching about skin color. Also, Cain was not redeemed so how could the mark be a cross or a tav? Finally, if God was using this as a sign pointing to Christ the allusion would have been much clearer and easier to grasp (see the story of the Bronze Serpent). I appreciate your zeal, but we must be careful about building doctrines on slim evidence. God bless you real good today!

@ I did a very long study, I learned Hebrew. I did it years ago, I remember most of it but it's very long. In Hebrew the word ( I no longer have my Hebrew font to be able to type the word) the translit is Ot. How you would pronounce it. It means a sign , a mark, a letter. You've know alpha and omega as beginning and end, in Hebrew the omega is called a tav. In Paleo Hebrew( what Jesus read) the tav is † a cross. Hebrew has updated the look of the script, but it's still tav. ( Jews had problems with even a plus sign, I know because I am Hebrew.) Ot can also mean a beckoning, like waving . I just want to make sure I give you clear knowledge to all the word means. The sign is a letter. It is the tav, it is the cross. A lot of prayer and study went into this but you might be able to find more. Another place the sign is used Ezekiel 9-4. When someone can't write, they leave their mark , a cross. It was the Malkhut (a cross within a circle). It is the oldest Grant of Arms in recorded history. Also, Cain's DNA was altered so he was beardless.
