Great comparison video! Just pulled the trigger on V1 and given how long you’ve had your wondering how many flats you’ve encountered (if any)? Seen many comments of people recommending slime sealant injection into the tires too.

I’ve not had any flats as of yet, but I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before I do. I did buy tire slime shortly after getting the GXL, but have not yet used it. I have been thinking about getting replacement tires (likely from the Gotrax site) for the GXL or GXL v2 and installing them along with a video. However, I believe replacement of the front hub motor tire and the rear tire can be quite a task.

For the money, this is great. I keep it in the hatch of my Tesla Model S so when I go to charging stations I can get on the scooter and leave the charging area for 40 mins. Otherwise I'm stuck walking around and using the limited shops or places to eat. Id rather go to better places than Macdonald's ; ) So now I can ride to further places to do stuff or just take a ride during a beautiful day. More options then just doing work in the car

I like the aluminum GXL V2 26 lb compared to the steel Razor E300 51 lb weight. The difference in weight makes a big difference when you have to carry it around. My main concern before purchase is the cost of the replacement GXL V2 Li-ion battery, which is more expensive than the AGM batteries in the Razor E300.

I've had an original GXL for a couple of years now (8-2018) and have not had any issues with it. My family and I ride the scooter often around the neighborhood and trails other than in the cold winter months.

I was trying to figure out which version to buy and this is a perfect video for me. Thank you so much for uploading this! Decided on v2 for the handbrake and extra space on the deck (although it may be negligeable) it gets here Wednesday so I'll come back and let you know what I think :) Edit: just got it. Handbrake is amazing works really well. I would make sure that you always start in 1st gear then shift when you're going about 6-8 mph. Dont try pushing off and starting it in 2nd. The only real concern I have is the battery meter is very iffy and will sometimes vary between 1 and 3 bars depending on how hard you're pushing the motor

The battery monitor is actually more of a voltage monitor. Every time you gun it the motor uses up more energy causing the voltage to drop, resulting in the sudden change in battery percentage.

Nice video. What do you think about the solid tire that are offered for this scoot? Will solid tires give me more range? I know that the ride may not be as smooth, but do you think it's worth it to put solid tires on things scooter? I have the gotrax gxl original version. One other question. I noticed that my battery life life is about a little over 6 miles. Does the cold weather affect battery life? It's been 40 to 50 degrees here. I have seen reviews of tire replacements for the Xiaomi M365 (from air filled to rubber hollowed out designs) and although the task of replacing the tires looks challenging I believe that the benefit of not having to worry about flats at all is would be a good piece of mind (even though you might lose some benefits of suspension on rough terrain). As far as I know you will not get as good of performance in the colder weather. However, I don’t have any statistics or any good real world testing to back that up.

@@PowerOnFun Thank you for the quick response, info and advice. My first gotrax gxl electric scooter had a problem with the headlight. It would not completely shut off. The headlight would dim, like it was barely on when you shut it off. I took it back to the retailer and exchanged it for another one. The new one works great. So great, that my wife decided to purchase her one too. Lol. Hers worked great right out the box. So far it's been a good urban scoot. I wouldn't recommend this for off road or jumping off curbs. I see it more as an urban commuter. Great for touring downtown, simi-smooth roads, intercity bike trails . Thanks again.

Not a dumb question. All of us have asked the very same question about electric scooter and skateboard. Yes, the scooter can be manually pushed/kicked without the electric scooter on. The hub motor in the front offers very little to no resistance when on foot and riding without power.

Yes. I didn’t realize it was on the version 2 until the riding it for a bit. I have a dedicated video to the cruise control as it’s a very good feature to have, but can catch you off guard if you didn’t realize it.

Heads up to shoppers. We received a Go Trax GXLV2 from Amazon in June 2020. Scooter wouldn’t work out of the box and their (GoTrax, not Amazon) customer service has been awful. Amazon has prevented me from leaving a review documenting my experience, but they did accept the return. We’re back to the drawing board in terms of selecting a scooter. As you look through recent Amazon reviews, my experience is not unique, GoTrax seems to be struggling with quality control and customer service.

just got mine I noticed that when they first give it to you they don't give it to you before the four bars. Fully loaded going to give it to you too so I was writing to my friends and I got there and they just like Ryan juice so I'm charging it right now but it's a great by just for to get Starbucks Coffee to go to the store you know you can go take you to work to it's great it's a zippy it's a good at the first speed II speed and see how you can still do it but you know there's depends on your preference so I love it and you know good for the price and it's a commuter scooter and I love it

I’m glad you are enjoying your scooter. I remember thinking about mentioning checking the charge level before you first ride the scooter (if riding straight out of the box), but I believe the GXL v2 I got had full 4 bars so I ended up forgetting to mention it. It could depend on how long the battery/scooter is sitting in stock from the place it’s ordered from as battery charge will lower if left unused over time.

I believe it would potentially add benefit from a small tire puncture by adding slime. I have seen an old video where someone added slime to the tires of the original model. I have not confirmed this, but someone seemed to think Gotrax already had slime in the tires, but I’ve not seen anything official and I’ve not asked Gotrax (I assume not).

When the scooter is powered off the scooter acts as a regular scooter with very little to no resistance so it can be manually pushes along.

The back wheel on my v2 seems A LITTLE wobbly. When it's pushed a hair to the left the disk freewheels against the brake pad. Is this intentional (ie. not an issue during rides?) or something I can tighten? I'll figure it out myself but any advanced advice is much appreciated

If the rear wheel seems remotely wobbly you may want to remove the allen bolts on each side cover and then tighten the bolt holding the rear tire. The V2 does indeed have regenerative breaking. There’s a sensor inside the bike style break that activated when it’s pressed down. You can check for yourself by popping a wheelie after the motor kicks in and hitting the bike brake. The front motor hub wheel should instantly stop.

Is the thing on the back of the scooter the fender is it a brake or just for folding

The rear fender is geared to be a splash guard and houses the molded part for locking the tiller down on the scooter. It's possible to push down on it to use it as a kind of "emergency foot brake" but I've heard that even though the plastic fender has reinforced ribs on the top can break if used frequently.

GOTRAX batteries have been out of stock for a long time now. They are still not sure when they will be available. Back in May they were telling me they would be back in stock by end of June. Now they are saying end of July or August. Anyone knows what batteries can substitute the Gotrax?

If the battery dies, can you use it like a non-powered kick scooter? If so, is there a resistance created by the powered wheel when you kick?

You can use the scooter when it's powered off just like a regular scooter. I believe there may be a very slight resistance from the hub motor when compared to a free flowing wheel, but if so it's very difficult to feel any difference.

So the V2 includes a safety pin for the folding mechanism, but is it required? You said it feels like it's "not going *anywhere*" when latched into place. Why the pin?

Yes. Gotrax added a safety bolt that goes through the locking mechanism on the base of the neck/tiller on the GXL v2. Although I’ve never had an issue with the GXL or GXL v2 locking mechanism I assume it’s added safety for anyone that doesn’t listen for the audible click of the locking latch when it’s completely unfolded. Adding the bolt would make it impossible to unlatch and fold down when riding. I believe it’s a smart addition, but more of a personal preference for me. With the bolt in it would stop you from folding it down quickly for storage or charging.

The original also now comes with the safety pin. I had just received my scooter. I have gotten 20 mph I weight is almost 120 lbs. I like the rear brake. I chose the original as I didn’t care for the front wheel break wire being on outside of scooter. I was afraid someone might easily tamper with or cut the break cable. MOO

Quickly I would say that either scooter would be great. If I wanted to get one I would personally choose the new GXL v2 with handbrake. As nice as it was to have the electric/electromagnetic brake and foot pedal-rear disc brake on the original, I prefer the extra space saved on the deck on the new version. Plus, the GXL v2 has some kind of “cruise control” feature that I only just realized in the last day when riding (video to come soon).

I just received the original version which I love. I easily ride 18mph and have rode it 20mph I weigh 120 lbs. Don’t know how to measure the distance I can get on a full charge. Any suggestions what I can purchase to check mileage not by road map app. It also came with the new locking pin. I also have noticed it also has a cruise control. I let off speed button and it continued at 17mph. I tried various times and still noticed a cruise control feature. I have no problem with the back break I will start pressing it first before using front break. Go for Gotrax ! Easy to carry up and down stairs as I live on 2nd floor. Some other models weigh 50lbs.

Temperature and wind play a part. Of it's cold and solid or strong wind then it could slow you down a bit.

my next scooter might be V2 of this but i like the segway ninebot es4 more and its got an extendable removable battery pack future scooters should have instant changable battreries so one can maybe carry extra battery to keep you going sofar i have only seen that with the ninebot ES series. You kno when you run out of juice you cant just charge and go man you got a long wait before you can get going again you kno wha mean but stiill they are all great and useful nuff respect. Segway-Ninebot makes well thought out scooters with Bluetooth app compatibility and optional add-on expandable battery packs ($250+). They are also releasing a new model, ES Max, soon that is reported as having a 40 mi range. I believe you can preorder it now for under $600 and it retails at $799. I would love to get my hands on one. One thing to note however, with more distance brings more carry weight. The Segway-Ninebot ES Max is said to be over 40 lbs So carrying it up stairs or a distance is questionable.

These scooters won’t go over 18mph. I assume that scooters would be allowed on the road (trails are another story, but I ride half on trails as well) as long as they don’t surpass the posted speed limit in areas. However, you may want to check with your local police department to verify first.

I can only say that I have a a few of their scooters and have not had issues other than a tire tube that kept loosing air. I can say that I also have heard of a good number of people having issues with their customer support.

I've never had any visible degredation or issues with the batteries in any of my Gotrax scooters. The battery cells are grouped and contained in plastic wrapping inside the battery tube.

The GXL and GXL v2 does not have a shock absorber on the front (or the back), but it can handle bumps and semi-rough terrain without much issue. The tires are air filled and that does give it a bit of shock absorption (alongside the body of who’s riding the acooter). Even with a couple of other scooters I’ve ridden, Segway Ninebot and Xiaomi, I don’t thing a shock absorber makes a huge difference (that is my personal opinion).

The Flash It does not have any shock absorbers, but because of the air filled tires, it Is a much smoother ride that you would expect. Especially so if you slightly deflate the tires

The scooter has an IP54 waterproofing rating. Basically, it's generally water resistant. The occasional puddle should be no problem as the hub motor front tire is fairly well protected and the battery is in the tiller neck of the scooter off the ground.

If you have a weird noise coming from the back wheel ,then probably the brake pads are touching the brake disc all the time.I had to realign mine and the back wheel now is spinning normally.

Weird i got the gotrax g2. 7 mile range 36 volt top speed 15.5 mph. Guess mine not in your list they have so many choices mine only cost $191 with tax great deal wish was 12 mile range distance but has 36 volt motor n 36 v battery ion.

That I am not sure. I know the battery pack is made of numerous rechargeable batteries that will degrade naturally over time, but should last at least ten years (and longer) as a best guess.

I had the same thing happen. I have had to replace the rear fender on a newer model and it is for sure not the same. I ended up simply removing the fender and manual brake from the rear, but that will leave a bit of a gap in that area by the wheel.

From what I've heard from others that have purchased these scooters over the past year I believe they removed the speed mode. It sounds like you are at the max speed at 15.5 (varies based on rider weight, temp, wind, and road conditions.)

Honestly, I don't know how it can be changed. The scooter handle and console sold in the US is supposed to be in MPH. I have not found out "if" it can be changed to KPH and I cannot find out how to change yours from KPH to MPH. I would e-mail Gotrax support and see if they have a key combination that can be used to change it (hopefully it's that easy).

I don't see anyone concern about the distance you can go with a single charge. Do you guys plan about how to return or maybe the plan is to leave the gotrax at the end of the 9 or even 15 miles. The scooter itself is not light to carry it back to your car. Point is they need to come up with a longer lasting battery.

The scooter also works using a standard scooter manual push off. The catch is the hub motor does not spin as "freely" as a wheel on a ball bearing, but still allows for push/kick if the battery runs out. Gotrax also makes newer scooter with longer lasting batteries (bigger battery cells per pack).

The tires are air filled. However they can be replaced (with work) with airless honeycomb or completely solid tires.

I would say that ages of riders would be up to the responsible adult and skills and abilities of the rider. Personally, I let my 8yr old daughter ride the scooter on trails with my supervision riding along with her.

Good question. I know opinion differs, but I've let my youngest start riding the GXL and GXL V2 when she was 9, but only with myself or her older brothers or sisters. She is ten now and I let her ride with a friend a couple of years older.

Gotrax has several different models of electric scooters. Some faster than others, but both the GXL models are basically the same speed. Gotrax offers a cheaper/slower kids scooter, but most kids will likely find it “too slow”. They have a sale going on now as well. I will be posting a video on it in the next day.

Without a doubt, Yes. Just make sure that it will fit your needs (like weight and distance. The more you weigh the less distance you will get). This scooter has no working tail light (just a reflector), but if that is needed you can easily add a flashing red LED light to the back fender for around $10.

I bought one of these for my girlfriend she rides it to work about an 1/8 of a mile 4-5 times a week and it just stopped working one day after only 6 months worked great until it didn’t 😢 just bought another one hoping to get more then 6 months out of it 😡

I’ve heard of some people having issues with the connection to the battery. If you have the scooter you may be able to remove the handlebar and check the battery where it connects to it to see if there are any signs of an electrical issue. The problem is I’m not certain if the issue lies in the battery itself or somewhere in the scooter wiring.

I got one yesterday, assembled and once I tried I noticed a loud and awful sound on the front wheel. I don't know if its normal on this scooter or not.

The front hub motor has a low whine or him sound when engaged. It is usually a fairly constant sound, but can be louder for a second or two sometimes. All usually barely noticeable. The rear disc brake can squeal a bit loud if the brake caliper is a little off

Vilheime Harbort , I asked Gotrax earlier this week about the cruise control and they told me both models , GXL and GXL v2 did have the cruise control. However, I believe have an original GXL because mine does not have this feature where I believe others that have purchased the GXL recently do have cruise control.

We bought the original GXL scooter for Xmas 2018 6 months ago. It no longer turns on. Maybe it sat for a few months without any use plugged in. I call the manufacture and they tell me that it is not warrantied, which ends in 90 days. That we over charged the battery. We should charge it no more than 5 hours or less and unplug it. However when you read the manual no where does it tell you how long to charge or do not over charge. A new battery is $100. very unfair and i am thinking hard before i throw good money at a bad product.

I’m sorry to hear of your GXL issue. I know I’m the winter I let my scooters sit uncharged for a few months. I have also heard of issues with electric transport devices such as scooters, skateboards, and unicycles having battery issues with “overcharging” as well as issues if a battery, or section of batteries in the overall pack, has issues or gets dislodged from the chain.

If the battery were a simple two prong I would say you could remove the handle from the neck/tiller and stick an electric tester in both connections to see if there is any charge on the battery pack. However, I would think that if the battery had any good cells it would at least power on, but never fully charge. I’m no electrical expert by any means however. I wish I was more helpful in troubleshooting steps.

You can try disconnecting and then reseating the handle that connects to the battery in the tiller neck. By "skips/jumps" do you mean on the initial acceleration from stop for a split second has a stuffer or hesitation, but then runs fine after that?

Understandably so. I've had good luck with the hub motors and parts but things do happen sometimes. They do sell replacement hub motors but they are $100 unfortunately.
