I'd always wanted to see how the orginal version was choreographed, it's really interesting, because even though the music has changed, you can still recognised certain elements, especially towards the end of the number.

I personally prefer the other version. I'm not saying this version is bad, but to me the way the lyrics are arranged with the melody seems a bit awkward and rushed. And the different parts don't really seem to go together in the full melody. But that's just me. I still don't have anything against this older version. I see it as development of the music.

Nope nope nope nope, l have listened to this song since l was 11 and if there was one question l could ask ALW is, why oh why did you change this song? every dance move and lyric is perfection and Bonny Langford and partner sprinkled thier fairy dust all over it to one of my favourite dance routines ever.,the choreographer who worked tirelessly on every perfect move to go with every perfect lyric is and absolute genius!! Thankyou for uploading this, this is how it was on day one and how it should still be now. What a crying shame. P.s I'm sure Lord Webber knows what he's doing and had his reasons for changing it but in my opinion this is and should still be how the performance should be to this day.
@ITSOVER9000notes5 күн бұрын
@@crazycrumblesasmr3311 Yea, the "other" version is a straight-up nerf. This is far more musical, difficult, and generally impressive than the "later" rendition; which is odd, since such a triad is the heart of music theatre
@vicentehizon62024 жыл бұрын
When I first listened to the new movie soundtrack, I was confused at the new arrangements, but then I realize that they were following the original “jazz” version, not the more popular “vaudevillian” version.

Not my favorite version I do absolutely love the version now, but I do have appreciation of how Andrew Lloyd Webber at first envisioned this as these two sly smooth burglars
@rossmandell87344 жыл бұрын
The new version is much catchier but Thorton and Bonnie Langford laid it down and set quite a standard. Fast and funny with great chemistry. Dr. Who was not her element. Her more recent performance in 42nd street is also a lot of fun.

I remember watching this programme when it aired! I had just turned 18 at the time, and watching this little segment of CATS was the beginning of my love affair with this amazing musical. I immediately went out and bought the double cassette tape of the Original London Cast, and until about 2000 played it to bits everywhere, especially in the car. When it died I bought the double CD and now it resides on the USB stick I keep in the car. What I love about the original cast is that they peformed this song exactly how they sang it on stage - sheer professionalism.
@musicalmagpie7413 жыл бұрын
The lovely Bonnie Langford! A great talent in British Theatre and TV - she was even in the film of Bugsy Malone. She was totally made for the original production of CATS. Think of the talent in that first cast - Bonnie, Wayne Sleep, Sarah Brightman, Brian Blessed, Paul Nicholas... the list goes on. The original London production was the only place to see CATS. It has become so ‘Disneyfied’ over the years people think the original costumes are too strange. I love how abstract they used to look before the whiskers and tons of greasepaint.
@RossM38383 жыл бұрын
Finola hughs as Victoria don’t forget. She was later patty on charmed and in general hospital. I only wish general hospital would have her dance more.

I love this version so much but I totally prefer the 1998 version.. For a few reasons. The 1998 version has cuter costumes. The 1998 version is so much more catchier.. The original song doesn't really fit with the rest of the songs in Cats. And also I know that the 1998 version is like the 1983 Broadway version, but the 1998 version actually has Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer singing about themselves like in this version..

@littlesongbird113 жыл бұрын
@LaurLaurtheNEKO No. Its a matter of opinion. I Like the original london cast because the costumes left more up to the imagination and made you pay more attention to their dancing/movement/ etc. You know Bonnie was only 16 when she was casted in this role?

it's definitely changed over the years into a much catchier song in my opinion. i love seeing how far its come though, the costumes and choreo too.
@drayiskewl Жыл бұрын
I love that even though it's changed there's still bits of the old choreography, and the iconic Rumple jumping into Mungo's arms on his hip is still the same. Also there's something to say about the movie using this version of the music rather than the version most people are used to (this whole thing is in 4/4 while the version from at least 83 on ward has parts that are in 7/8). I think that they could have made it work in the movie but something wasn't communicated properly and this song was sorta killed in the movie. Sad because I quite enjoy this recording

In our production we were taught that she just admired him. We did not get told to play related as brother and sister. I mainly saw her as my best friend. Definitely not as twins, which is a suggestion I read about a lot as well. The "special" costume for the number is indeed similar, as are their wigs and make-up, but their basic costumes are not. I don't know why..
