Pasquinade - a composition that imitates or misrepresents somebody's style, usually in a humorous way. It can also be described as a lampoon, satire, or parody (thefreedictionary.com).
Louis Moreau Gottschalk (1829-1869) composed this piece in 1869 and it was published in 1870. I do not know Gottschalk's inspiration behind this piece, but it is definitely humorous in nature.
Ivan Davis (b. 1932) is an American classical pianist and professor of music in Miami, Florida. Most of his recordings are unfortunately out of print. I find his enthusiastic interpretations of Gottschalk's music to be quite enjoyable.

This rendition is one of the best I've heard of Pasquinade. So light and airy. The grace notes so clear and perfect. So well paced: fast enough but not rushed. I love Gottschalk and this is my favorite composition of his.

I have this recording on CD. It’s my favorite Gottschalk piece, too.

From the several pieces I've heard, Gottschalk's general style seemed to be repeating a simple, catchy theme but building it to more and more complexity as the piece goes on.

This is weird, like mixing Liszt with ragtime or something. At the same time, it's...awesome and something like a dream or fantasy come true.

This is fabulous piano music. Definitely under appreciated in today’s piano repertoire. Very difficult. Even though this has a slightly slower tempo, than many of his other pieces, the level of difficulty is still there. Love this.

This whole piece is amazing, don't get me wrong. But that part in minor probably contains some of the most beautiful sounds ever created.

I love his music. I had heard "Ojos criollos" which I really liked. Then I started listening to other things he wrote. Las nuits de tropiques symphony is amazing, and the Souvenir de Porto Rio and Habana, beautiful.
