Excellent as usual Jared! "I'm focused on getting the major value relationships first" ... listen well people!

The Mind of Watercolor thanks! That took me a long time to grasp and I still wrestle with it. :)

Awesome!! I always marvel at how much you accomplish with a big flat and its corners. Makes me want to try using one, more. It seems to help with such a nice, loose quality. Love the Transformer, too! I know Homer would have painted one if he had had one. 😁

Brian Ashmore Studio hahaha that would have been cool to see. I would love to see more sketches of mundane stuff from him and others. Wyeth has a bunch of big really cool sketches of mundane simple stuff. No transformers though hahaha

How do you feel about those short handle Richeson brushes? I'm not sure if it's just me but I feel like they don't hold paint very well. I like the longer handle Gray Matters ones though. Have a couple of flats for acrylics and watercolour rounds that I use for everything.
@JaredCullum5 жыл бұрын
In a pinch I like them but I almost always reach for the karells which are my favorite. They’re Raphael and pretty cheap. Those gray matter brushes are great! I use their oil painting brushes. I agree though.

Awesome sketch and teaching video Jared! Augh, getting sucked into the details too early is such a big challenge for me, thanks for letting me know I'm not alone, lol! What a tremendous challenge that transformer toy is, and from watching this sketch, I learned a lot on how to paint something that complicated with gouache. Thanks!

Draw Paint Repeat thanks! It was fun. Ever since your last video I’ve been wanting to get a Montana point hat for Plein air painting haha Brian and I have a joke that Sargent got his power from cool hats because there are so many photos of him in the field with big fancy hats. :)

@@JaredCullum Thats actually Steve's super power, wearing a western hat to perfection! True story!

Awesome painting Jared! I echo Brian's comment, it's crazy what you get done with a big flat! It would be interesting to see you work with a round brush or filbert, just to see how it changed up the look of you work. Great job!

Good stuff, Jared! I really need to double-down on the value relationships, matching values and all that. I'm usually trying to push them at the end, instead of at the start. They just look at me at that point and say "What in the world do you think you're doing?" LOL!!

Jenna Caruthers haha I know how that goes. I have to remind myself to focus on it. It helped me a lot t work black as white for a while because then you don’t have a choice. :)

I loved your video Jared. I like gouache too but I still have a long way to master it, so is gouache your favourite medium? Also, do you paint digitally as well?
@JaredCullum5 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I love gouache. It is not my favorite. My primary medium is watercolor for all my illustration and personal work. I ended up doing more gouache videos because people request it much much more than watercolor. :)
