i just went from using watercolour (6 years) to trying gouache just this month. ive done 3 still lifes and 1 personal for fun painting with it and countless play times with my kiddos using it (using artist loft jelly gouache before i commit to Winsor and newton or another artist quality brand) i absolutely love the freedom of just painting over a mistake and adore the heavy body of it. i cant work in oil yet and acrilic i just destroy brushes so this was the best choice to get a kind of oil/acrilic feel for myself....... ALSO THE KITCHEN SKRITCHY!! GENIOUS.

Thank you Doug for this very informavideo. On guash. There's so much out there on every other medium and not much about Go wash. I really appreciate the independence tutorial on this. I have a magello set and I love it and i'm just learning how to use it. It is a beautiful medium as you said for so many reasons. Thank you. Very much for your time and all the wonderful tips that you've given us. God bless

Yeah- i am an oil painter but i also sketch in gouche and have gotten used to it - not that hard, is great for painting in the car, visioning various compositions, use a scrap piece of paper to test colors and mixing.

Thanks for this, Doug. I've always been curious about gouache but figured it was just another acrylic-like medium. Sounds perfect for quick road trip painting. Any comment regarding acrylic gouache?

Yes, you can play around with gouache endlessly, so it's the ideal medium for me. Oil takes forever to dry, acrylic stinks, watercolor washes me away, but gouache is kind to me. Thanks for the tip about the honey!

One of my favorite things to do (almost like a party trick) is to know how to say all those crazy (usually a chemical structure) sounding names and how they are correctly pronounced. When you've learned how to say benzimidazolone, you feel accomplished. But yes, art companies sure do like to give us some tongue twisters.

I never saw anyone blending in Gouache seamlessly...which is why im frustrated with Gouache. Also layering is difficult

It may not be the "best" medium ( subjective ) but it's the most practical and the most efficient. Period.

I beg to differ about selection of colors , though.. gouache has sort of had a rebirth in the last few years, and there are soooo many colors available .. holbein alone has huge selection of gorgeous artist grade gouache .. mgraham,WN, schmincke , Daniel Smith etc .. thanks for the video ..norakag, here 👍👍 overloaded with choices .. i've been a gouache artist for about six years now , after being a watercolor artist for most of my adult life .. i fell crazy in love with gouache .
