This was a really great explaination video. I don't understand why Govee doesn't have you making videos for them. Hard to look at what they are selling on Amazon and understand how it works. I still don't know if the visual device (i.e., "Govee WiFi Digital Hygrometer Thermometer H5103") will send the temperature & its other data through the hub (H5100) to internet. Because it's stupid how they didn't design those (maybe they are just Bluetooth) to be both bluetooth and wifi. Sorry, that H5103 is wifi (looks like), but one in a set that I got is Bluetooth only (I think). And, how they write up their Sales Pages is just ridiculous. They should really explain it more, because these seem to be really nice devices.

Thanks for posting this. It was a big help. I was hoping you would touch on calibrating these sensors. I have one in a refrigerator and it's reading about 9 degrees higher than it is. I used a commercial thermometer to check the accuracy of these sensors.

I connected everything and it doesn't work over wifi. If I don't have Bluetooth on + am not in range it does nothing. In blutooth range it is fine. Is there a magic trick to get it to work over Wi-Fi? Thanks!

Hum... So your temp sensors are assigned to your gateway, your gate way is setup to use your wifi and if you do not have blue tooth turned on on your phone then you do not get temp data. if the sensors are too far away they only communicate one way, if thats the case they may not be getting the updated config. You could try brining the sensors in close to the gateway, and confirm they work then take them back out.

When I also added them to the "gateway" it started working fine. The directions I received did not mention the part where you add it to the gateway. Thanks!

Hi so I turned a a couple of refrigerators into incubators I was trying to find out if you had control ability with monitoring temperature and humidity and being able to turn on and off things like heaters and humidifiers based on the current rating. Am I correct in saying that you can control those extra tools inside the govee app? I was thinking about getting the 10 sensor pack because I have multiple incubators and warm farm units.

Hi Joseph I did not have the Govee sensors when I built my incubator. For my incubator I used raspberry pi single board computer to control the egg rotation and heater. For humidity I just used brick sized sponges half submerged on water. That’s an interesting idea though using home automation software to run an incubator I’ll have to give that some thought.

Hum . That’s not something I’ve ever given much thought to. My wife and I have the app installed on our phones and logged in with the same account. That’s the only way I know to share.

Should the govee Wi-Fi gateway be near the sensors or near the Wi-Fi ? e.g., inside my house, or inside my greenhouse where I'm measuring temperature with sensors

My gateway is over 100 feet away inside a building and 4 of the 5 sensors around my hoop house check in regularly so I can see the current temps within the past few min when I’m away from home. A few of them don’t sync their data reliably so historical data requires me to go out with my phone to get it all. If your planning to put these inside your green house keep in mind these are not water / moisture resistant so depending on your conditions you may end up with corrosion on the circuit boards one of mine stopped working reliably inside the hoop and I ended up cleaning some corrosion off the board with wd40 electrical contact cleaner it’s working again. That sensor was accidentally harvested by one of our helpers and sat outside for a few days so that may have been how it got wet inside. I’m hoping to do a follow up review soon

Mine just work when a new battery is installed even when run dead and have sat for bit. I’ve swapped batteries in my original units 2 or 3 times and they just come back.

@@ebentrunk For me the batteries seem last 2-3 months I do notice they do not last as long in the winter/freezers but they are still around the 2-month mark. In summertime more towards the 3-month mark.

Does this system work while away from the home that its setup in? Meaning can it be monitored when away from home.

In my experience the devices themselves will log the data for at least a week or so so that when you get back into bluetooth range you can download the data. If they are within range of their WIFI gateways and that gateway has internet access then it will continually update the data. Right now I have them in my hoop houses and when I'm 50 miles away I can still get live temperature data (or at least within a few min).

@@AXPorto short answer yes if I’m understood your question correctly that’s how it works for me. Long answer if the sensors are in range of the Wi-Fi gateway and paired to that gateway and that gateway is connected to the internet the sensors will upload data to the govee cloud and your phones app will fetch the data from the govee cloud. Through your 4g data connection.
