Thank you for making the time to provide us with this insightful lecture, Sir Krippe! My thoughts on this lecture are that having a well-functioning government is an important need for our country. However, sometimes or even most of the times, the people we vote into office don't really know how to run things smoothly. To make our society work better, our government needs to really try hard to follow these eight characteristics that make up good governance. Our elected officials need to stick to what they promised us, be open about what they're doing or be transparent, and take accountability for their actions. Performing efficiently and effectively isn't enough, our elected officials need to be transparent and show accountability in order to achieve success.

Thank you for this informative and detailed discussion, Sir Krippe! My key takeaways for this lesson are: 1. Governance is not just about achieving the desired outcomes; it should be achieved in the right way, specifically through the application and execution of the eight characteristics of good governance when delivering public services. Additionally, good governance is not relative since there are universal bodies, values, and norms that can be considered truth or right. 2. In terms of the eight characteristics of good governance, it is important that such characteristics are all present in the government. Since they are all related, the absence of one of them can affect the process of delivering services to the public. For instance, if participation is present but transparency and accountability are absent, then it can affect the trust of the citizens as well as their active participation. Also, since participation involves the freedom of everyone to express their insights and interests, it is relevant that they are just being heard; there should be responsiveness and action to concerns that are being raised. 3. It is important that resources are used efficiently and solely for their intended purpose. In that way, even though it is scarce, there is still progress in addressing what needs to be addressed. Also, in terms of human resources, I believe that it is necessary that the actors be the right people for the job. Meaning they should be skilled and knowledgeable enough to perform such relevant duties.

Thank you so much for this very conducive and insightful discussion about Good Governance, Sir Krippe. As for my takeaways, the eight characteristics of Good Governance according to UNDP play a vital role to reach its goals. They need to work hand in hand because they are mutually reinforcing and connected to each other. We have to observe that these characteristics are present in the government to establish the good governance that we are aiming for. With that being said, it will create and sustain a holistic framework that guides government's actors and decision-making processes. Henceforth, by ensuring that these characteristics are present at the same time, we can conclude and say that Good Governance is present as well and we can achieve the objectives it have. Hello, sir! I appreciate the insightful discussion. Upon reviewing the video, I reflected on the crucial role of "standards" in guiding a nation towards its goals. Additionally, I realized that good governance is a collective effort involving all entities within a society, emphasizing the importance of harmony. Despite the challenges, the pursuit of good governance, marked by accountability and transparency, is valuable. The diverse frameworks discussed highlight the universal significance of these principles, underscoring their potential to catalyze positive change in our country.

Thank you so much for this informative lesson, Sir KA! What a great discussion to remind as PA students, as we step outside the academe and enter the public service in almost less that a year - to promote each principles of good governance and break the persistence of corruption in our country. Understanding the different characteristics of good governance provides me a strong foundation on how to evaluate the kind of government that we have today and to aim for more better governance and how can I contribute for its attainment. As a new generation of public servant aspiring for a better Philippine society, I realized that, it is not enough that we have knowledge on what is good governance and its characteristics alone but indeed it will be the start, because I believe that what we need the most is the courage to fight for it, promote, and sustain each of them because a government with ethical leaders who promotes good governance is what the Filipino people deserves. As PA scholars, let's not just allow the good governance to be just a concept alone but be the bridge to make it into reality by upholding public interest over personal interest and be accountable to the general public at all times.

Thank you for this informative discussion, sir. From this lesson, I was able to formulate these key takeaways: 1. First, the concept of good governance serves as a universal standard for countries aiming for effective governance and economic development. Through its objectives and principles, it establishes a path to balance a country's capability to meet its goals in the best and most appropriate manner, involving both the government and its people. 2. Second, the eight characteristics of good governance form the foundation of how a country should function, ensuring the well-being of its people. These include participatory governance, the rule of law, transparency, responsiveness, consensus-building, equity, and inclusiveness. While these principles seem straightforward, factors like cultural diversity pose challenges in defining an "ideal" country. However, these characteristics can serve as guiding principles aligned with the efficient skills and good principles that our leaders should possess, despite these challenges. 3. As a public administration student concerned with providing effective leadership and management to the people, I firmly believe that these characteristics are interdependent. Alongside a goal-oriented mindset, equipped capabilities, and selecting the right leaders, they could significantly impact and contribute to the development and betterment of our country, its government, and its people compared to our present situation.

Kudos Sir Krippe! thank you for this knowledgeable video lecture. As per my key takeaways, I have learnt that each organization, institution, and government has its own distinct interpretation of good governance. This interpretation is influenced by the prevailing culture and norms inside that particular organization and society. However, it is important to note that this interpretation is not relative. Furthermore, I would like to establish a connection between the attributes of good governance and the present conditions in the Philippines. It is widely acknowledged that corruption persists in the Philippine government, as is the case in many other countries. The lack of transparency and accountability contributes to the shortcomings of our government. Therefore, the absence of any of the characteristics hinders the attainment of good governance. Hence, it has been asserted that the active involvement of the populace can serve as the catalyst for the desired transformation. Nevertheless, the citizens in our country experience limited freedom of expression, which is occasionally disregarded by those in positions of authority. A prime illustration of this is the jeepney phaseout or the modernization program implemented by the BBM administration, which poses a significant threat to the livelihood of jeepney drivers.

Thank you sir Krippe for this great discussion After watching the lecture, I then asked myself, do we have a good governance? How far are we in reaching the ideal yet still manageable country that we deserve. There are still a lot of changes that we still need to come up for us to have a better country in the future. The participation of both men and women can then be made more clear and active for a get more possible option or output. Moreover, it can also be a participation that we are not scared of. People can freely discuss and express their beliefs and opinions. Next, the set of rules that we have should be a law that is made to be a guidance for everyone to used and not to be abused by those who have power. The rules should not go against the minority, our rules, our laws should be more considerate to the minority especially in the present times that varieties of issues arises. Then, there's transparency, which in my perspective is something that become so hard to achieve especially in the public sector. The latest issue we can relate are those information needed but cannot be provided by various sectors as they need to protect someone who are in power.

Thank you so much sir for this informative lesson, Sir Krippe. Upon watching the entire video, I realized that despite the numerous studies that defined good governance, it always boils down to providing for the general welfare of the populace in order to be considered as one. A person who is recognized as being political and non-political, specifically a civil servants and politicians, must be committed, accountable, and aware of the lines that separate one’s own interests from the greater good of the public. When civil servants or organization are misled by their own self-interest, the organization would rin into challenges along the way.

Thank you for the wonderful discussion, Sir KA! I have learned from the lesson that effective government requires a variety of ideas known as good governance. Measurable components of this concept include accountability, transparency, responsiveness, consensus, efficiency, participation, and adherence to the rule of law. These variables function as a distinct element in evaluating an administration's dedication to good governance, guaranteeing that it places the welfare of the public above its own personal interests. Knowing the principles of good governance is critical for the advancement of society. Critical elements include transparent decision-making processes, accessible information, and open procedures. However, a significant number of modern governments operate in a manner that does not prioritize transparency, which complicates the task for citizens to understand the processes that regulate the prudent selection of leaders. The significance of leaders' choices in shaping the futures of citizens underlines the necessity for a more rigorous examination of the attributes that comprise effective governance.

Good day Sir Krippe! In this lecture, I have realized that when it comes to the future of our societies and the economic success that we will enjoy, the concept of good governance is important. To guarantee the efficient operation and long-term growth of any society, effective governance is a fundamental quality that includes many different aspects. In that sense, good governance must not be treated as a simple moral imperative, instead, it is a pragmatic necessity for the governments. Moreover, one of the main takeaways in this lecture is that good governance is about doing things the right way, not just getting things done. By implementing these, the government guarantees the achievement of its goals and maintains values vital to the welfare of its people and the society as a whole. In a sense, doing the right way means the government places an importance on the principles of good governance.

Good day, sir Krippe! My takeaway from the discussion is that good governance is an evolving framework that guarantees the fair and sustainable development of nations through dedication, continuous improvement, and active participation of elected officials and citizens. It is a comprehensive and continuous process that acknowledges how social, cultural, and environmental elements interact to shape a society's well-being. Additionally, good governance makes sure that those in charge act in the best interests of the people they are supposed to represent. Effective and responsible leadership is based on good governance, which includes values that support accountability, inclusiveness, and transparency. 1. Transparency promotes trust between the public and the government by requiring open communication and information availability. 2. Accountability enforces compliance with legal requirements, moral principles, and economic resource management by holding leaders accountable fo r their actions 3. Diverse viewpoints are crucial in the decision-making process which is why inclusivity and citizen participation are essential. By adjusting to the demands of the people, a responsive governance structure promotes a flexible and proactive approach to solving issues.

The most important lesson I learned from this is that good governance will only be achievable if we, the voters, put the right people in positions to accomplish our goals in the most ethical and effective ways. The various definitions of Good Governance outlined by different organizations predominantly emphasize the importance of the qualities possessed by those in government. These individuals should exhibit traits that empower their constituents to be heard and receive the services they rightfully deserve.

Good day, Sir! My key takeaway from this lecture is that good governance is a process of achieving goals through doing the right ways. We do not need a good government that just provides what it can, not what people need. We need a government that practices good governance. It is easy to achieve good governance if they are truly concerned for the public interest. Our government needs to embrace the concept of good governance and its eight characteristics in delivering public services.

Good governance is everyone's responsibility. I have learned that change doesn't merely initiate with leaders but emanates from the citizens themselves. This discussion, along with the rest of our lectures, has emphasized the significance of our power. Preserving and utilizing it is our responsibility as citizens, and our choices shape who we are today. I have observed numerous capable leaders who were denied positions that could have been beneficial for them. There is also a considerable amount of untapped potential in the government for transformative leaders. Conversely, many individuals have been placed in positions for which they were unprepared and lacked understanding. If this situation persists, achieving good governance will become increasingly challenging. As youth, we can commence by standing up for the truth, correcting misinformation, acting as a conduit of information for people in remote areas, persisting in advocating for what is right, and, above all, fostering respect, as we all deserve a government that is attentive, accountable, fair, and transparent. We have all suffered from the government's misguided actions, and we should stand united. Good governance has the potential to unify a country, sharing aspirations for the growth and well-being of everyone.

Good day, Sir Krippe!, Thank you for this information. After watching the discussion, I learned that good governance is not simply obtained, but that there is a procedure or elements on how to achieve good governance. In the lesson, it is said the importance of individuals in achieving good governance, the government and citizens should work together in achieving good governance. I think to achieve good governance, it needs to start with the citizens, we need to elect the right people to position in the government, the people who practice the eight characteristics of good governance. But to achieve good governance we citizens also needed to participate. To achieve good governance it needs the collaboration of the government and society. In today's settings, it will be hard to achieve it, but as long as we don't give up and continue to work on achieving good governance we will attain it.

Good day, and Thank you Sir Krippe for this lesson. 😊 My key takeaways from this lesson is Good governance guarantees that the community is treated fairly. Everyone has the same chance to maintain and improve their well-being. Every decision-making process and its institutions must be capable of producing decisions that fulfill the needs of the entire community. The government must also make the best use of community resources. It is possible to conclude that good governance is an excellent notion for achieving its objectives. However, establishing good governance is not as simple as it appears on paper. Only a few countries have been successful in incorporating this philosophy into their governance. Swift and responsible action from diverse stakeholders will surely aid in the implementation of good governance. Again, this is critical because we are aware of the technical, institutional, and budgetary capacity problems that cities and local governments confront, which may be addressed when they are provided with a favorable enabling environment.

Thank you for this insightful discussion, Sir Krippe! 1. Good governance has no exact universal definition; however, there are still values that are presented to us by several institutions that we may practice and may aid us in achieving it. As seen in the discussion, one of it is UNDP's Eight Characteristics of Good Governance where the following facets: participation, rule of law, transparency, responsiveness, consensus-oriented, equity and inclusiveness, effectiviveness and efficiency, and accountability must all be equally present for us to achieve the goals of good governance. The harmonious interplay between the eight are fundamental for the government to accomplish more for the greater good. As we analyze the current governance in our country and how it has been for the past decades, it is evident how many of these facets are sacrificed and neglected for the sake of greed and personal interests. In the end, it is clear that the Filipinos are the ones who continuously suffer and battle every day as we deal more diverse and complex challenges in the country. 2. Accountability and Transparency must also be exercised more as these contribute to good governance and builds trust between the government and the public. Accountability ensures that decision-makers are held responsible for their actions. 3. As citizens of the country and as future public administrators, we must also value and understand the importance of choosing the most qualified and best leaders to lead our country. We must also remember that the burden is NOT only on us but the government, the leaders themselves must exercise good governance for the betterment of our communities and the overall well-being of our country. Thank you for providing this helpful video lecture, Sir Krippe! My takeaway and realization from the lecture are: Good governance is not relative. So, regardless of how each country is influenced by its own cultural norms and values, we have these so-called universal values declared by the UNDP, Asian Development Bank, World Bank, and Institute of Governance that may be regarded as the correct one. Some characteristics have been mentioned according to the UNDP which are participation, rule of law, transparency, responsiveness, consensus-oriented, equity, effectiveness, and accountability. Furthermore, the perception of having good governance as a whole may be undermined or lost if any of the factors listed above are lacking. This emphasizes exactly how important it is to embrace these values. And entering this path in the government has to do with encouraging an awareness of integrity and duty. In our country, the Philippines. It's clear that we don't have those qualities. Achieving good governance will never be an easy thing to do especially in the reality that we have. This is not a personal responsibility or all about the government itself but rather a collaborative one between our government and society. To attain participation from the public, the government must be transparent, responsible, and able to fulfill the needs of its people. As a Filipino, I will never lose hope and continue to do my responsibility of being a wise voter and a citizen to choose a leader who will hear the voice of its people. We must continue to speak up and participate. One voice cannot change the entire scenario, but it can make a difference. We shall continue to be an advocate to give the country and its people, what it deserves.

Thank you for the wonderful discussion, Sir Krippe! And with that, my takeaway from the lesson is that good governance is crucial for long-lasting growth and development in society. It involves various traits that support welfare and just advancement. A government committed to good governance ensures that practices and policies represent the interests and objectives of the people by encouraging public participation in decision-making. All attributes provided by diverse organizations are equally crucial to achieving the goal of effective governance. Transparency and accountability are crucial for good governance, and the government should prioritize these values. Ensuring accurate information about the economy and the availability of information to the public is essential. Public sector management (PSM) is also vital, as it allows the public to monitor how the government handles decisions affecting their lives. PSM guides government officials to enforce decisions that are appropriate for the public's needs, ensuring transparency and accountability in the government.

Thank you, Sir Krippe, for the insightful and productive discussion! My takeaway from the discussion is that good governance is a universally applicable framework, not relative. It requires principles to make sure decisions are ethical, inclusive, and lead to sustainable development for everyone. Being committed to these principles is crucial for creating a governance system that is accountable, transparent, involves people, and responds to their needs. Also, i learned that the octagon model of good governance isn't just a set of separate principles; it's a complete framework where each part depends on the strength of the others. To achieve good governance, all eight principles need to exist together and support each other. Participation brings in diverse perspectives, enhancing responsiveness, and the rule of law and transparency form the basis for accountability. Decision-making based on consensus ensures that policies are both effective and fair, and equity and inclusiveness enhance overall governance effectiveness. Efficiency and effectiveness depend on transparency and accountability to ensure optimal use of resources.

Thank you for this discussion Sir Krippe! For me, the 4 different institutions defining the characteristics, dimensions, elements, and principles of good governance actually have similar ideas. Although good governance has no universal definitions, guidelines like these can help communities to achieve of having good governance. According to UNDP, the 8 characteristics namely: Participation, Rule of law, Transparency, Responsiveness, Consensus-oriented, Equity and Inclusiveness, and Accountability should stand side by side and applied in order to find the presence of good governance. The absence of one characteristic could actually prevent one community with the title. In addition, I noticed that accountability, transparency, and participation were mentioned in all 4 definitions given by UNDP, World Bank, ADB, and the Institute of Governance. In my understanding, these 3 were the most crucial parts of good governance since these 3 involve the people. Since the power of the state emanates from the people, its people should be the first concern. But this doesn’t mean that the other aspects were less important. All of them were as influential. The general well-being and prosperity of nations are largely dependent on good governance. It creates a framework for social justice, economic growth, and political stability while encouraging accountability, trust, and citizen participation. In addition to being morally required, it is also practically necessary for the inclusive and sustainable development of nations. JAVIER, Liezel | BPA PFM 2-1

The instructor delivered a captivating video presentation on good governance principles, providing a comprehensive explanation that delves into the complexities. The thorough breakdown of each principle and its key dimensions offers valuable insights, making the lesson both informative and enlightening. Thank you sir! What is your key takeaway from this lesson? My key takeaway from this lesson is the multifaceted nature of good governance and the various principles that underpin it. Firstly, it emphasizes that good governance is not a one-size-fits-all concept; rather, it depends on shaping norms and culture within an organization. Governance, whether good or bad, is intrinsically linked to the potential for corruption. The lesson emphasizes that achieving good governance involves a complex interplay of cultural norms and organizational values, and there is no universal template for its implementation. It underscores the importance of shaping organizational culture to align with fundamental principles such as participation, rule of law, transparency, responsiveness, consensus-oriented, equity and inclusiveness, effectiveness and effective and accountability. Secondly, the lesson introduces three major frameworks from UNDP, World Bank, and Asian Development Bank, each providing distinct dimensions and characteristics of good governance. The UNDP's octagonal framework outlines eight essential characteristics, emphasizing aspects like participation, equity, and effectiveness. The World Bank adds a strategic vision to the mix, focusing on public sector management, accountability, legal frameworks, and transparency. Meanwhile, the Asian Development Bank highlights accountability, participation, predictability, and transparency as its fundamental elements. Thirdly, the lesson underscores the interconnectedness of these principles. For instance, accountability is intertwined with performance measurement, while transparency is linked to providing accurate and timely information. It emphasizes that these principles should work hand in hand to achieve good governance, requiring a holistic approach rather than cherry-picking individual elements. Lastly, the lesson underscores the significance of the Institute of Governance's five principles: Legitimacy and Voice, Direction, Performance, Accountability, and Fairness. These principles further reinforce the idea that good governance involves not only effective management but also strategic vision, responsiveness, and a commitment to fairness. In essence, the key takeaway is that good governance is a nuanced concept encompassing a variety of interconnected principles that, when applied collectively, contribute to the overall success and legitimacy of an organization or state.

I've always enjoyed learning from you, Sir Krippe, and this discussion is no exception. For any country, including the Philippines, achieving good governance is a continuous goal. Knowing that there is a set of characteristics for a good governance makes me wonder at first how easy it is for any country to follow those but failed to do so. Even the four basic elements of good governance is something that we actually demand. And upon diving into the discussion more i've realized maybe it is more on the integration of such characteristics. Just like how you put emphasis on how we can see it in an "octagon" form or shape we cannot neglect any of these idea as they all work together interacting with each other to build good governance. Wherein this is the part in which i think the Philippine government has overlooked or failed. The implementation process not having transparency, the lack of responsiveness in given calamities, the neglection in the rule of law and other characteristics that is put aside is crucial when it comes to the overall goal. Although the Philippines has achieved progress in a number of areas related to good governance, ongoing efforts are still required to solve enduring issues. The nation can only achieve and maintain excellent governance by fortifying its institutions and encompassing all characteristics as a whole given that the "core" of all this is to make decisions that provides the needs of the people.

Good day Sir! My key takeaways are the understanding the UNDP listed eight characteristics of good governance, with a focus on accountability, transparency, responsiveness, and participation. They call for a wide viewpoint, the mediation of conflict interests, and the accountability of both persons and institutions to the law. Effective resource management, transparent institutions, and a voice for every member in decision-making considering the public demands and interest are all guarantees of good governance. In their operations of decision-making, processes, governments, businesses, and civil society groups must place a high priority on embracing good governance. Practicing and applying those principles build a concrete foundation for future generational leadership and effectiveness, ensuring the societal development and economic growth. Thank you po Sir! 🥰

Thank you, Sir, for a very comprehensive discussion of this topic. My key takeaway from this lecture is the measures for attaining and the degrees in considering good governance. I've been studying how important good governance is in the practice of public administration, however, there is no lone system in which the government follows or a specific mechanism on how these aspects are measured, and how they should be implemented. I learned that its most important element is being consensus-oriented, we should always consult the stakeholders, and involve everyone in the decision-making. Therefore, in attaining this, the rest of characteristics comprising the good governance will follow. Mark Angelo Redor, BPA 4-4

Thank you for this discussion, Sir Krippe! My main takeaway from this lecture is: 1. There is no standard to what we know as "right" good governance because each society has its own norms and values. However, if it meets all of the known characteristics or elements of good governance as defined by the UNDP, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and Institute of Governance, we can have something proximate to it. 2. Governance is not all about how the government leads and serves the people. It is also about how the people participate in what the government is conducting. Both the government and the public must work hand in hand to achieve the best result a society or nation needs. 3. To achieve public participation, the government must be transparent, accountable, and capable of providing and adhering to what the public demands. Trust is a vital factor in achieving greater compliance. If the government fails to earn the public trust, it can lead to rebellion or mutiny, making "good" governance harder to achieve. In short, communication is the key. As long as a political agenda is involved in government, it is challenging to have good governance. But, as a Filipino voter, all I can do is choose our leaders wisely and carry out my civic responsibilities to ensure that whoever we elect can bring good governance to our country. Thank you, Sir Krippe, for this insightful and meaningful discussion. This video brings up useful information that helps us to fully understand the concept of good governance and how important it is to the current situation of our country. My key takeaway is it highlights vital information to deeply understand the concept of governance as it provides different metrics from various institutions to know if the government is practicing good governance. One of these is the 8 characteristics of good governance according to UNDP, which includes participation, rule of law, transparency, responsiveness, consensus-oriented, equity and inclusiveness, Effectiveness and efficiency, and accountability effectiveness, which is clearly explained practically. Each of these characteristics is essential to be done in the government and works hand in hand, since if one of these is missing, there is no longer good governance. Furthermore, the concept of good governance should not stay as a concept, rather it should be practiced. As a public administration student, we are supposed to be one of the advocates of practicing good governance, and we should always strive for the betterment of the public. By advocating practicing the concept of good governance in government, it will greatly help in eliminating problems in our society and ensure a more responsive and efficient kind of government.

Thank you for sharing this one, Sir! My takeaways for this lesson is that good governance, as outlined by the UNDP and World Bank, encompasses several key characteristics essential for effective administration. Transparent governance ensures open communication and access to information, fostering trust between citizens and institutions. Accountability holds decision-makers responsible for their actions, reinforcing ethical behavior. The rule of law establishes a framework for fair and just governance. Participation involves engaging citizens in decision-making processes, promoting inclusivity. Responsiveness ensures timely and appropriate actions by authorities. Achieving good governance is crucial as it enhances economic development, social cohesion, and the overall well-being of a society. Good day, Sir Krippe! Thank you so much for the fruitful discussion about the characteristics of good governance. After watching the lesson, I have learned that good governance is a multifaceted concept crucial for effective government. It encompasses measurable elements such as participation, rule of law, transparency, responsiveness, consensus, equity, efficiency, and accountability. These variables serve as a clear component to assess a government's commitment to good governance, ensuring that it prioritizes the public's welfare over personal interests. Understanding good governance is essential for societal progress. Transparent decision-making processes, accessible information, and open procedures are key components. Unfortunately, many contemporary governments lack transparency, making it challenging for citizens to grasp the criteria for choosing leaders wisely. The impact of leaders' decisions on citizens' futures emphasizes the need for a more serious consideration of the qualities that embody good governance. Oliveros, Crystal Anne V. BPA 4-3

Good day! First of all, thank you sir for this discussion! Here are my takeaways from the lesson. 1. Good governance must be a standard in the government to have acquired better outcomes for the country. 2. These characteristics are crucial to take note of everyone especially public officials as well as citizens to distinguish if they are serving the public in a right way or for the citizens if they are acquiring the service that they deserve in the right way. 3. People have different values or principles that they hold. However, having power over a country, they must act in accordance to their positions and responsibility for them to prove that they deserved the trust of the public. All of this, these characteristics are crucial for the public officials as well as citizens to distinguish if they are experiencing good government. Public Officials can assess themselves if they have these characteristics, or they are lacking, and citizens also assess if they are receiving the right governance.

Thank you for this wonderful lecture. Hence, this is my takeaway: As mentioned during our last discussions, Governance encompasses the efficient utilization of political, economic, and administrative authority to effectively manage a nation's resources with the goal of promoting development. This lesson emphasizes the importance of possessing the power and authority to effectively manage a nation's resources in order to promote development. This entails considering different factors, including political, economic, social, and administrative aspects. The characteristics being discussed are currently difficult to find in the Philippine government, which is one of the reasons why our country is still considered underdeveloped. I firmly believe that incorporating the concept of good governance into our discussion is of utmost importance. By studying it through textbooks and engaging students of Public Administration, we can empower ourselves to actively contribute towards its realization. Additionally, it will increase our awareness of the government's actions that contradict the principles of good governance.

Thank you for the insightful discussion, Sir Krippe! My key takeaways are very much pointed to the concept of good governance that is not just a simple concept alone that can be easily defined freely as it has elements or variable which are its basis of measure. Good governance cannot stand alone when defined as it is quantifiable and its nature as measurable makes it clearer on how it can be applied in the current situation of the government. The key measure or variable which are the participation, rule of law, transparency, responsiveness, consensus-oriented, equity and inclusiveness, effectiveness and efficiency, and accountability are the basis of how good governance can be achieved, These variables are straightforward enough for the government to observe if good governance is truly its ambition and not any personal interests or gains. Good governance as an approach in governance can pave way to the fullness of development and progress that the general public can enjoy and as well as other institutions in the society.

Good day po Sir Krippe! My short takeaway about this lecture is that competent and open management of societal matters by institutions is referred to as good governance. It incorporates values such as responsiveness, accountability, transparency, rule of law, and participation with the goal of ensuring equity and advancing the welfare of residents. Successful societies must have good governance, which is based on values that encourage openness, responsibility, and public involvement. Societies can foster an atmosphere that encourages equity, effectiveness, and sustainable development by upholding values like responsiveness and the rule of law. Essentially, trust between residents and institutions is built on the foundation of effective governance, which eventually contributes to a country's stability and prosperity. Good day Sir Krippe! Here's my takeaways after watching the video lecture, I realized that in order to ensure social fairness, combat different challenges in our country like poverty, and advance sustainable development, good governance is essential. In order to help one's country, eight qualities are listed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as defining good governance. Applying this as students, knowing and internalizing these qualities will enable me and the rest of us to develop into knowledgeable citizens and future leaders who actively work to create a society that is inclusive and just. Furthermore, learning and accepting the eight tenets of good governance while still in school can have a significant influence on our future development as individuals and leaders. We can help build a fair and sustainable society by actively engaging, supporting accountability, encouraging inclusivity, and fighting for transparency. Junio, Mel Angie A. ( BPA 4-1)

Thank you for the informative discussion, Sir Krippe! My key takeaways from the lecture are: First, good governance has no certain definition because there is no universal template for what good governance is. It varies depending on the organization or institution, since each has distinct cultures and sets of norms. Therefore, governance, or good governance, is indeed not relative. The conversation then moves on to discuss several characteristics, principles, and elements that make up the various institutions of good governance. While I understand their meanings, relations, and purposes, I can't help but compare these characteristics, principles, and elements to the governance we currently have. As the discussion went on, I came to the unfortunate realization that good governance is undoubtedly nonexistent in our country at the moment. Among all the characteristics, principles, and elements that have been discussed, there is not a single element that we can fully perceive or experience. Since they are all interconnected and the absence of one will prevent good governance, how can it exist if none is provided at all? So yes, while there is governance in the Philippines, it is certainly not good governance. Apart from that, I've also realized that in pursuing good governance, we should really focus on factors such as participation, transparency, and accountability, as these are regarded as pillars in achieving good and effective governance. The participation of the citizens must not end with voting in elections; participation must be present even up to the decision-making processes to ensure that the citizens voice out their thoughts and concerns. Only then will the government and the citizens have connections and collaboration. The discussion also inspired me to advocate and impart my knowledge more as a future public administrator because there are those, particularly the marginalized, who believe that their voice is insignificant and easily delegate their voice to the government. By doing this, they will be able to understand their significance and value to our country since good governance relies on the participation of all citizens, regardless of their gender, status, or other characteristics. Our country lacks accountability and transparency. Transparency could be caused by the fact that Filipinos are not information seekers; they merely rely on the information provided and do not actively seek what they deserve. Regardless, the people have a right to know, particularly if it will affect their lives; thus, the government has to give them the information they need. On the other side, accountability is crucial. We deserve a government that serves the nation, not only its own interests; thus, those who are to blame for the anomalies in the government must be accountable for their actions. Overall, the discussion was very informative and instilled a lot of information that we can use and apply in the future as advocates for good governance and as public administrators. We may not have good governance right now, but discussions like these open my eyes more and encourage me to seek what we, the people, deserve, which is good and effective governance.

Thank you Sir Krippe for this insightful discussion! My takeaway for this video is that, in order for good governance to work, those eight characteristics of good governance must work hand-in-hand. There should not be absence of one characteristic because any absence of one will pose risk to the result. This left so much meaning to me because, as observed here in the Philippines, this is what our government lacks and sometimes does not consider. For instance, Participation is highly exercised, however, with your mere sentiments and opinion for the betterment of the country, you are being subject to red tagging. How could we achieve a better society, if the government does not listen to its people and restricts them from participating constructively. Even though, yes, there is a limitation, it seems like our government abuses those for their personal gains. They failed to consider each one of the characteristics as laid down by UNDP, which resulted in poor execution of projects and programs. Consequently, the quality of life of the people is being largely affected. To expound the limitations, despite the overwhelming advantages of these characteristics, it is also important to note that not every aspect should be given and provided to the people. The government still needs to create a boundary to secure the life, liberty, and property of the people. It should be valid and reasonable, not mere whimsical and selfish. For instance, transparency, there is various information that is not for public consumption, due to it might pose a threat to national security and can cause instability. In sum, the government must embody these characteristics of good governance while setting limitations in order for them to achieve their visions and aspirations for the people fully. They also need to rethink their decisions and consider people. Furthermore, in good governance, public interest must be prioritized. The elected officials must remember why they are in that position in the first place. Public service is an intended action to help the public, not to satisfy and advance the officials' interest. If they cannot adhere to the characteristics of good governance, they are not worthy of their positions.

Thank you for this insightful discussion, and happy holidays, Sir KA! ❤ My key takeaways from the lesson are the following: 1. Good governance can be defined by the following characteristics. However, the responsibility lies on the government to set detailed standards and/or criteria for these eight characteristics of good governance in order for them to identify if they are meeting these characteristics. In short, it should be measurable. 2. Citizen participation has historically been a driving force for change. This should be emphasized both in the national and local setting as this can be a catalyst for responsible and efficient governance. 3. Continuous dialogue and the development of good governance frameworks are vital to ensure these models remain effective considering the changing circumstances and emerging challenges.

Good day, Sir Krippe! Some of my key takeaways from the discussion are the following: 1). Good governance is not just achieving desired results, but also achieving them in the right way. Some of the agencies or officials can manipulate reports and numbers stating that we have achieved what needs to be achieved. Given that they have the power to do such a thing, how can we be sure that these accomplishments are attained in the right way? This is where transparency and other characteristics of good governance will enter; 2). There are provided characteristics of good governance, and the lack of any of these will result in inconsideration as good governance. This means that all of the provided characteristics are vital, and should definitely be given attention. From what I observe, it's just easy to speak of 'good governance', but difficult to attain if public officials as well as the employees are not skillful and trustworthy enough in handling the government. It's easy for them to say that the government is responsive, effective, accountable, etc. as this is what they are usually trying to portray. To genuinely achieve results in the right way, the first step is to have the right people placed in the government.

Kudos, Sir Krippe, for an insightful discussion. I think my key takeaways are, first, how important people's participation is as an instrument in instilling good governance in our public institutions. And second, although you’ve mentioned that we do not have a “universal model” for good governance, I noticed that both the UN and ADB have elements of accountability and transparency in their frameworks, which made me realize that by exercising the two elements alone, all other elements can be manifested in the process.

Before sharing my takeaways for this video, I would like to commend Sir Krippe for this fruitful discussion about good governance. It is important for nations to, at the very least, have eight characteristics of governance by the UNDP, even if a nation doesn't do it perfectly it's still better to have it than nothing at all as if one is missing there will be disruption in governance - good governance in this matter. Especially to Third World countries, they cannot 100% be perfect in each aforementioned characteristics, but at least they have it and will hopefully improve it for development of their respective nation. There is no shame for a nation to take it step by step, improving one category after another - what is shameful is if it is blatantly neglected and/or ignored completely. Participation, Rule of Law, Transparency, Responsiveness, Consensus-Oriented, Equity and Inclusiveness, Effectiveness and Efficiency, and Accountability. These are the BASICS in governing - good governance. It is presumed that a nation do these categories already - especially democratic nations. BPA 4-2 Galang.

Thank you for this profoundly insightful lecture, Sir Krippe. Here are my key takeaways. Firstly, the notion of a “universal template” for defining good governance is debunked, highlighting that good governance is not relative. While our cultural norms and values shape our understanding of the “right way,” it’s crucial to recognize the existence of universal values and norms deemed correct across cultural boundaries. Another key takeaway underscores the crucial significance of each of the UNDP’s 8 Characteristics of Good Governance. For good governance to be effective, these characteristics must work hand in hand, with each core element uplifting the others. It is emphasized that the absence of any one characteristic hinders the attainment of what we define as good governance, according to the UNDP. GONZALES Jr., Jose B. | BPA 4-2

My key takeaways from this discussion are: Citizens need to be conscious of the need for good governance. It was mentioned that "people are the agents of development" such that their engagement coupled with good government actions can services and policies only be developed effectively. It could be said with certainty that good governance is the responsibility or business of everybody. It was also mentioned that governance will depend on the shaping of culture and values and that good governance is not relative as there are still values or norms considered as true across cultural boundaries. When talking about decision-making in the government, culture and values often play a significant role such that the environment of government officials poses as a challenge for them as it can eventually affect their decisions. It would be better if we are consistently incorporating the elements of good governance in daily activities of the government over a long period of time so that it can gradually be considered as norms, although this would depend on the political will of public officials. 👏🏻Thank you so much for this insightful discussion, Sir Krippe! - Catherine Anne M. Good day, Sir Krippe! Thank you for the comprehensive discussion about good governance. My key takeaways for this discussion is that good governance have different definitions and it is not a uniform way or practice but it must be achieved in the right way. Despite of separate yet related definitions of UNDP, World Bank, and ADB about good governance, an organization, country, or nation must still consider its cultural and societal perspectives to efficiently and effectively ensure the narrative of good governance among themselves. Understanding the concepts underlying in good governance, I think, the academe must also remind the scholars and practitioners that a good governance practice from another organization or country may or may not be effective or efficient to another. For a more specific context, not all practices of Singapore's good governance would be effective for the Philippines. I thought about this context because I felt like we, in the Philippines, are striving to adapt foreign practices without carefully considering if it would be efficient in the context of our country. And it is an interesting topic to ponder since we become highly western-centric. Nevertheless, discussions of good governance is a very interesting topic especially for public administrators like us, students, who aim to enter the government in the near future. Thank you for your discussion and I look forward to the next. :) 28:12 28:12

Thank you for this fruitful lesson, Sir Krippe! 😊 After watching this video, here are my key takeaways 👀 📌 Governance can be either positive or negative, depending on how effectively the state operates and fulfills its mission. Achieving good governance requires active participation from various stakeholders, including the state, private sector, and civil society. Citizens should voice their thoughts and ideas, particularly in shaping policies and implementing programs, making them integral to the decision-making process. 📌 Public officials must uphold their pledge of responsibility. They should be responsive to the needs of the people and ensure that the policies they implement are effective and efficient. Transparency and accountability are crucial not only for enhancing public trust but also for fostering cooperation among all stakeholders. 📌 Lastly, the rule of law should be impartial; it must be fair. Laws play a vital role in safeguarding the rights of citizens and maintaining peace and order. No one, regardless of wealth, poverty, or government position, should be exempt from the law. 🤓 To sum it up, adhering to the principles of good governance is paramount for a country's development. By embodying these characteristics, we make the way for a prosperous and thriving nation. 🇵🇭

After watching the presentation I learned that Active participation is essential for good governance. It flourishes via the active involvement of citizens, a just legal structure, and transparent communication. Decisions that have an impact on your life should involve your active participation, rather than being made only on your behalf. Leaders should be held accountable, sensitive to your needs, and committed to constructing a society that benefits everyone. The importance lies not only in performing the correct action, but in executing it with efficiency, inclusivity, and a forward-thinking perspective. Good governance is an ongoing process that involves continuous learning, improvement, and collaborative efforts to create a better future for everyone.

This lesson taught me that good governance does not have a single definition because each country, organization, scholar, or other person may have a different perspective on what good governance is. Establishing an equitable society, promoting economic progress, and cultivating citizen trust in institutions depend on effective governance. Good governance fosters citizen trust in their institutions. Transparency, accountability, and ethical behavior contribute to public trust in decision-making processes and authority actions. Understanding and embodying the characteristics of good governance is critical for a future public servant. Public servants play an important role in the delivery of community services. Efficiency, effectiveness, and responsiveness are essential characteristics for ensuring that public services meet people's demands in a timely and equitable manner. By expressing these characteristics, you're not only contributing to the effectiveness of the public sector but also to the well-being and satisfaction of the citizens you serve. Good governance principles as a public servant contribute to the development of an effective and transparent public administration.

Thank you so much sir Krippe for concise and insightful lecture video 💜 My key takeaways from the discussion is that there is no single definition of "governance." As you stated in the discussion, different institutions, organizations, and individuals have their own definition of governance, it varies depending on the context in which it is used to describe as "good" or "bad" governance. And for me as a future public servant and with a first hand experience of our nation's current governance structure, I am challenged to continue the path that I have started which is to be a good public servant with the goal of having an honest, transparent, and well-functioning government in the future. I also highlight the eight characteristics of good governance, as outlined by the UNDP even if it appears impossible to do or apply in practice, it is possible if everyone works together, regardless of age, gender, race, religion, social status, and so on. Additionally if our public officials, leaders, or personnel truly believe in and put these characteristics into practice, for sure we can have a clean and effective government. Once, Mary Joy BPA 4-2

Thank you for this short but very informative lecture, Sir Krippe. This allowed me to have three major takeaways. 1. Despite good governance being subjective or having no universal definition, particularly the "right way," due to conditions such as local customs, cultural norms, and values that might affect it, good governance is still not relative. The reason is that there are still universal values and norms that are considered true and correct across cultural boundaries. With this, I believe that although the chair of the Senate Committee on Constitutional Amendments and Revisions of Code is promoting the charter change, this won't change what good governance really is. 2. Regarding the first takeaway, these universal values and norms can be the UNDP, World Bank, ADB, and Institute of Governance characteristics, definitions, elements, and principles utilized as indicators to describe good governance. This made me realize their crucial role in the different aspects of global development and governance, aiming to improve people's living standards and foster sustainable growth worldwide. 3. The characteristics, elements, or principles must all work together because the absence of one may also constitute the non-existence of good governance. This enlightened me that the government's success in a single aspect does not imply that everything was sufficient. For instance, the UNDP describes the eight characteristics of good governance, all of which must work hand in hand to have good governance. Thus, a government that advocates citizen participation and is consensus-oriented cannot be considered as government institutionalizing good governance if it is ineffective, inefficient, not accountable, and not transparent. Merely possessing or advocating three, five, or seven characteristics will never suffice to qualify a government as a good government or a leader as a great leader. All eight characteristics must be present in order to assert the existence of good governance. Because of this, we can't hold the public responsible for their incessant demands. The reason behind this is that we require a change for the better; specifically, we need leaders who are capable of exhibiting all the characteristics of effective leadership and good governance, not just a few. In the Philippine context, sadly, it is clear that the government cannot fully implement each characteristic, let alone institutionalize all of them. So there is no doubt why the Philippines is still considered a third-world country, and its concerns, such as corruption, wastage of resources, red tape, bureaucratic processes, bloated bureaucracy, and status and gender inequality, are still pervasive. One good example is the present issue faced by the public and the transportation sector. There are continuous transport strikes in the country because participation and consensus-orientedness are clearly lacking during the crafting of the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP). Responsiveness, equity, transparency, and accountability are also clearly seen as absent. This made me believe that there is really no good governance in the Philippines. But, optimistically, this type of lecture will equip us public administration students to think about and come up with a solution as early as now and apply these solutions in the near future when we are already leaders of our country. 🥰🫶 -BPA 4-4 | Espiritu, Rowena J. ☺️

Thank you for the insightful discussion, Sir. KA. While acknowledging the existence of universal values or morals cutting across cultural boundaries, a critical lens reveals that the true potency lies in our ability to collectively harness these shared principles for meaningful progress. As the UNDP's eight characteristics of good governance were carefully discussed, it became apparent that these aren't mere ideals but rather crucial benchmarks for assessing the status quo of our societal frameworks. The essential value arises from our capacity to not only recognize these principles but to rigorously uphold and implement them. In doing so, we can navigate the complexities of diverse cultures and collaboratively steer towards a future marked by genuine advancements in governance and development.

Thank you for this brief yet fruitful discussion, Sir Krippe! 🥰 My key takeaway is that embracing the principles of good governance is like constructing a solid foundation that ensures the efficiency, inclusivity, and responsiveness of people, systems and procedures in any organization, whether within the government, private sector, or NGOs. The octagonal set of good governance principles, championed by the UNDP, underscores essential characteristics like participation, the rule of law, transparency, responsiveness, consensus-oriented decisions, equity and inclusiveness, effectiveness and efficiency, and accountability. This construction of a solid foundation emphasizes Sir Krippe’s lesson of these 8 cores of good governance interconnectedness. That neglecting or overlooking any single principle would compromise the integrity of the entire good governance framework. This further emphasizes the concept that good governance functions as an interdependent and cohesive system where each principle is indispensable to the functionality of governmental systems, processes, and stakeholders. When applied to the context of the Philippines, particularly in the current contentious policy of phasing out jeepneys, various governance shortcomings come to light. These include insufficient participation in decision-making and policy formulation, transparency gaps, limited responsiveness, and challenges to consensus-oriented decision-making and equity. The disheartening aspect is that our pursuit of achieving good governance in the Philippines appears elusive, especially evident in such governmental decisions and regulations. These governance lapses not only underscore the interconnectedness of principles but also emphasize the necessity of their collective presence for an effective and inclusive governance when addressing real-world and societal challenges. The voices of the PUV drivers and commuters, who will bear the direct impact of this policy, cry out for attention (thru transport strikes and rallies). I have realized that their concerns, being overlooked in decision-making processes, highlight the inadequacy of participation and the need for a more inclusive approach. Transparency gaps further exacerbate the situation, leaving drivers and commuters on its potential consequences. Additionally, limited responsiveness to the drivers' plight and challenges to consensus-oriented decision-making demonstrate a systemic failure to consider the diverse perspectives and needs of those directly affected. This further underscores the importance of applying and upholding good governance principles in a manner that truly reflects the collective welfare and inclusivity of all stakeholders.

Good day, Sir Krippe! 😉 This lesson of yours is such a truly helpful tool for us to better understand good governance and how the aforementioned topic was able to contribute to the development of societies and organizations. Thus, my overall takeaways that I have learned from this lesson are the following: First, the definition of good governance varies depending on viewpoints, contexts, and interpretations; however, the ultimate objective of good governance is to guarantee that those in power act based on the best interests of the public. Second, it is our right to urge the government to be accountable and transparent in terms of their leadership and how they provide service to their constituents. Hence, it is our collaborative responsibility to ensure that they manage resources with efficiency and that these services are truly in the best interest of the public. Lastly, the core of good governance is not only about making and carrying out the "correct" decisions; it also involves selecting the most effective way to make those decisions and ensuring that they are in line with the demands of the people as a whole. Overall, good governance can not be achieved in just a snap. It is a continuous process of effort and commitment from the citizens and government. 💯

Good day, Sir! Thank you for this concise yet precise discussion! With that, I was able to share my key takeaways: 1. Good governance does not have a certain definition because each country, institution, scholar, or other people may have a different viewpoint about what good governance is. It also varies depending on how a State shapes its governance; indeed, good governance is not relative since norms and values remain to be accepted as genuine and appropriate across cultural boundaries. 2. Further, these characteristics of good governance should be properly enforced, implying that these should not remain as the ‘standard’ or criteria for a country to have good governance. A particular statute, resolution, or policy that adheres to these characteristics should not remain as it is, just to say that the criteria have been met. Meaning, that these characteristics should be put into praxis wherein all of these are present considering that they are working hand-in-hand. With that, sustainability should also come into the picture. Incorporating the characteristics of good governance allows future generations to enforce what has been started by the current generation. 3. Minority. The participation of minorities is often overlooked, when in fact, their voices should be heard because most of the time they are the ones who are greatly affected by the decisions of the higher authorities. - Diaz, Dorothy I. | BPA 4-3

Thank you, Sir KA, for this lesson. 🥰😌😍 My key takeaways from this lesson are the following: 1. Participation of the citizens is crucial in shaping the policy and program implementation. Without citizen participation, the creation of a policy or program becomes irrelevant because, in governance, the people are the essential beneficiaries of the policy. Thus, for us to receive good governance we must engage, be active, and be involved in the process of development. For that to become successful, the government/organization should maintain a consensus-oriented and always think of the projects and programs that are inclined to the public interest as they are the ones to benefit from it. 2. In exchange, the government/organization must also adhere to their sworn obligations to their constituents, they always be transparent, and accountable, follow the rule of law, and think of a way to ensure inclusive decision-making. It is not enough that they perform effectively and efficiently; accountability, transparency, and responsiveness should be presented to ensure a quality outcome. 3. Good governance cannot be achieved if one of the essential elements is missing, it should be complete and well-perform by both end of citizens and the government. Thus, the above-mentioned elements are relevant to success and advantageous for the people, and good governance principles can only be achieved if both parties are willing to work together and not the other way around. Good day, sir!☺️ Thank you for this engaging and fruitful discussion! Upon watching the video, I was able to reflect on three things which are: 1. "Standard" is indispensable in good governance. It helps a country to be directed and goal-oriented. 2. Good governance is not the sole responsibility of the government, but it is a collaborative effort of all people and institutions therein. It is imperative for them to be in harmony. 3. Achieving good governance is obviously not easy but it is certainly worth striving for. For example, it could be hard to measure accountability, but that doesn’t mean it should not be imposed anymore. It amazes me how good people are at constructing those standards and principles which kind of seem to be too ideal and unrealistic to achieve, but it reminds me that this is what keeps us grounded-this is when we magnify hope and perseverance.✊ It might be too big and complex to think of, but a little effort can do so much-we can make an impact wherever we are and how big or small we are.😃❤️ - Calica, Zyrille O. Hello Sir, my key takeaway for this lecture is that no matter how we define good governance, as long as the eight characteristics are far from being achieved and even if one is missing, it will always be THAT challenging for the Philippines to give the highest public service possible for the people. Additionally, I want to emphasize that attainment of good governance is not just some merely theoretical framework just like what others thought about it, but a practical necessity to gain the trust between the government and its citizens. As we navigate the complexities of this idea in the realm of how public administration works, a steadfast commitment to embodying these eight characteristics becomes really a paramount in building a government that truly serves the needs of the Filipino people-- may it be today or in the near future. Moreover, participation act as the cornerstone in good governance, ensuring all involved parties contribute to decision-making and other activities. Complementing this, the ADB identifies four basic elements of good governance: accountability, participation, predictability and transparency. In addition, the Institute of Governance highlights five principles for good governance which includes legitimacy and voice, direction, performance, accountability and fairness. Thank you for providing us this video lecture. I appreciate it, sir! Let me share to you the things I have learned while watching this lecture. Firstly, good governance has always been a concept in our country because many people in the government cannot practice good governance. In order to achieve good governance, one of the ways they can do is to put full effort in embracing the eight characteristics of Good Governance discussed in this video. Secondly, transparency and accountability must be exercised more in the government as these two words are vital in having a good governance . People must never be tired of asking for transparency and accountability to the public officials in our country. The availability of information to the public and ensuring access to accurate information about the status quo of our economy are the things that the government should empower. Lastly, public sector management is also crucial because it gives us a chance to know if how the government handles the decisions affecting the lives of the general public. In line with this, PSM guides the people in the government to enforce a decision that is appropriate for the needs of the public.

Good day, sir Krippe! Here are my key takeaways: 1. I learned that in good governance, just because we have reached our desired result does not mean it is automatically "good" governance. In good governance, it is important to do things the right way to reach out goals for the citizens. 2. In good governance, citizen participation is important because we are doing things because we want to fulfill the needs of the public. 3. When we govern, it should be in accordance with the law. 4. It is important that people are aware of what is happening in the government. Information must be made available for the public to see. 5. We should be responsive to the needs of our people. 6. We should serve the best interest of the people. 7. Everyone must have equal opportunity. 8. Use our resources on things that are important. 9. Being accountable is very important when you are working in the government. TURLA | BPA 4-2

The concept of good governance encompasses what should be the government is right now. Although it has no definite definition, but at least we were able to define it and understand the concept of it. From an academic perspective, governance is deemed crucial for the government to enhance its services and practices by incorporating essential principles including accountability, transparency, responsiveness, and effectiveness. However, despite the positive ideals associated with governance, we cannot apply this as what we envisioned. The existing culture within our government proves resistant to change and transformation to what we wanted it to be. What we need right now is a means to bring changes by forming a group of people with same advocacy and interest.

What I learned from this lesson is that good government is an important part of keeping countries safe and prosperous. It is a set of rules for good leadership. For there to be transparency, decision-making methods must be open and information must be easy to find. With checks and balances, accountability makes sure that leaders are responsible for their actions and follow moral rules. The rule of law guards human rights and makes sure that the law is fair. Thank you, Sir Krippe, for such an insightful lesson!✨ In reflecting on this discussion, it's clear that good governance isn't one-size-fits-all. Countries, institutions, scholars, and individuals hold diverse viewpoints on it. I've come to understand that this concept varies based on a state's governance structure. However, it's not entirely subjective; certain universally accepted norms and values exist across cultures. I believe there's no single definition of 'right' good governance, as societies adhere to their unique norms and values. Nevertheless, adhering to the known characteristics of good governance defined by institutions like the UNDP, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and Institute of Governance brings us closer to an ideal. In my view, governance isn't solely about how the government leads and serves the people; it equally involves public participation in governmental affairs. Collaboration between the government and the public is crucial for achieving the best outcomes for society. The UNDP's octagonal framework for good governance serves as a guide, emphasizing essential traits like active participation, adherence to the rule of law, transparency, responsiveness, consensus-driven decisions, fairness, efficiency, and accountability. Just picture it like putting together a puzzle-each piece, each principle, complexly fits with the others. Just as a missing puzzle piece renders the puzzle incomplete, neglecting any governance principle weakens the entire system's integrity. Thus, I see it, governance functions as a cohesive mechanism where every principle plays an indispensable role in the functionality of systems, processes, and stakeholders. The stalled implementation of the mandatory increase in PhilHealth contributions (thankfully 😩), the anti-terrorism law, and the ongoing deliberation over the jeepney phaseout are glaring examples that I could think of that reveal governance shortcomings in the Philippines 😔. I feel these instances highlight the deficiency in decision-making, resulting in insufficient representation of people's voices and unclear policy frameworks. Consequently, these governance lapses tend to overlook the perspectives of marginalized groups, who often bear the heaviest burden from such measures. This neglect echoes a systemic issue where governance lacks comprehensive input and fails to recognize the disproportionate impact on these communities. I believe addressing these governance gaps necessitates not only the alignment of principles but also amplification of the voices of minority groups, such as those expressed through platforms like rallies. This emphasis on inclusive decision-making and policy formation is vital to foster fair and effective governance that genuinely benefits the entirety of society. As a public administration student, this has reminded me about something important: everyone deserves good governance. It's not just a fancy idea; it's about fairness and making sure everyone's voice is heard. Sir Krippe's lesson has inspired me to push and made me think of policies and practices that embody these principles, ensuring that governance truly serves the needs of the people it's meant to represent. Good governance isn't just a concept; it's what helps societies thrive and progress, and it's a cause worth advocating for with dedication. Happy Holidays! 🎁🌟

Thank you, Sir Krippe for this informative lecture! My takeaway in this video is that, in good governance, people participation is vital because they are part of the decision-making process. In order to attain effective governance, public officials must collaborate with the people because they need to listen to the demands of the general public and not only provide what they believe the public need. Furthermore, I learned that there can be no good governance at all if one of its characteristics is lacking, that is why every government must do their best to provide good governance and leadership for the people. Good day sir, here are some of my key takeaways from the discussion. 1. While there is no universal or one definition of good governance, the characteristics mentioned (or provided by different institutions) are essentially the steps to take. And it can be argued that these characteristics are also vital in a healthy democracy. A state where participation is not limited due to race, age, sex, rank, etc., everyone can equally be represented. A State where the law is upheld, a State that does its best to delivery services on par with the public's interest. These are some of the features that governance must have; 2. The existence of government or other entities alone do not signify value. Even if they provide healthcare, military, education - these things do not equate to good governance. Cañeba, Johna BPA 4-2

Good day, sir. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and discussing this lesson with us.🥰 My key takeaways are the following: 1. There is no official definition of good governance. It always depends on our culture and norms. It is shaped by our culture and norms. However, while that definition may be shaped and influenced by an organization’s culture, norms, and cultural values, it remains non-relative. This is because there are universal values and norms that transcend cultural boundaries that most people and organizations believe to be right and correct. To put it simply, good governance is not relative. 2. The definitions of good governance across different institutions, such as the UNDP, Asian Development Bank, Institute of Governance, and World Bank, are almost the same because they are all based on widely accepted principles and standards. 3. The eight characteristics of good governance are considered to be the core. Good governance cannot be achieved if any of its characteristics are missing. It should be fully and properly implemented by both the citizens and the government. They have to work hand in hand. And one core must update the other core. When one of the characteristics of good governance is missing, the organization or government can no longer be considered good governance according to the principles of UNDP. 4. According to the World Bank, for an organization to be considered to have good governance, it must have a strategic vision. The organization or government must ensure that the programs and projects they have made are organized and lean towards the mission of the organization or country. This is to provide a clear direction and focus for governance reforms. It sets a long-term goal and outlines the steps needed to achieve it. In order for us to have a strategic vision, leaders and policymakers must have a broad understanding when making policies, and they should make policies that embody the historical, cultural, and social complexities in the event that they implement or legislate. Without a strategic vision, governance efforts may lack coherence and effectiveness, as they may be fragmented or ad hoc. 5. In terms of participation, it is not absolute, as there are limits to how citizens can express their views about particular organizations. It is okay to express their thoughts and ideas about something, as long as it does not violate any human rights. And there are certain restrictions that are necessary to protect the rights of others and to maintain a just and orderly society. The same goes with transparency, as there is information in an organization or government that is too confidential to make public. In addition, the decisions made or information to be made public must not violate any law and go through the right process, whether it should be released to the public or not. Good governance is about achieving goals ethically through inclusion, accountability, transparency, efficiency, and fairness. Embracing the eight characteristics of good governance outlined by UNDP is crucial to ensure that government actions align with their proclaimed values, addressing potential discrepancies between public expectations and actual implementations. By practicing these principles, a government can build trust and meet the expectations of its citizens, reducing dissatisfaction and fostering genuine good governance.

Understanding the eight characteristics of good governance according to UNDP as interconnected components has been eye-opening. Each characteristic, like an excellently constructed structure, reinforces the others, and the absence of one weakens the whole framework. This understanding highlights the importance of representing these principles, beginning with student life. It is about beyond future roles and instilling a sense of integrity and responsibility. Practicing those principles lays an adequate foundation for future leadership, ensuring that when the time arrives, I can lead with integrity and make an advantageous mark on society while remaining true to my values.

Thank you Sir Krippe! For this lesson and making it conveniently accessible for us specially this season. Happy holidays po! As for my takeaway, there were many frameworks presented by different organizations on what are their parameters of what good governance is. As you stated in this lecture sir, there is no universal model on which we can base what good governance is. But upon discussing all the different models/frameworks in this lesson, I found somehow, a common denominator from all of them, it is Accountability and Transparency. Putting it into context in our country, we lack these two elements in many forms. I believe it will be a game changer and our state could achieve its goal so much more if at least, these two components are strictly adhered.

- There is no clear definition of what good governance is as it is dependent on the culture and norms within a society, However, we still cannot say that it is relative since universal values still exist for everyone to abide by. - The eight characteristics of good governance according to the UNDP are all equally important. One cannot be taken out, and once one characteristic is taken out, it is no longer considered as good governance. - Good governance must have a strategic vision. It has to circle around public sector management, which revolves around how one handles the public. Second is accountability in decision-making; a legal framework for development to see the progress of the aforementioned decisions made being input into a state. And lastly is transparency and information to be able to visualize what is happening with the choices being made by decision-makers of the state. - Combining the different definitions of what good governance is, I have noticed three common themes: participation, accountability, and transparency. First, participation has legitimacy and considers the voices of the public as well as the consensus of the people involved, as well as the general populace. It focuses on actively expressing their opinions and concerns to decision-makers to get the best possible outputs as public servants mainly operate for one thing: to serve the public. The public must also be associated in decision-making and if they are not associated, the needs of the public would not be heard. As for accountability and transparency, public servant needs to be able to be held responsible for the decisions that they make that affect the general public. And for transparency, it is built on the free flow of information. People need to hear what the decision-makers have come up with. Additionally, it fosters openness and communication to administrators as they can be aware and informed of what is occurring with public decisions.

Good day Sir Krippe! Advance Happy Holidays! 🎉 My short key takeaway from this video is accountability and transparency are the common denominators of good governance, and their strict adherence can be a game-changer for achieving the goal of good governance in the Philippines. The attainment of good governance is not just a theoretical framework but a practical necessity to gain trust between the government and its citizens. It is a collaborative effort of all people and institutions, and achieving it is worth striving for. But in reality, it is not easy and it requires a consistent revolutionary action and process. Thank you, sir, for the discussion and taking the time for us. What is your key takeaway from this lesson? This presentation is important work for good governance. I realized that it is in our hands to have good governance through voting to fulfill the needs of the citizens. In this lesson, it is mentioned how to be good governance. In the Public Administration course, almost all of us will work in the government, so this discussion helps to ensure that human rights are protected and that there is good leadership. In achieving good governance, the participation of all citizens, whether directly or through the institutions they represent, is an important characteristic. First is the rule of law; the laws should be enforced, and human rights should be respected in an upward and impartial manner. Equity means giving citizens the opportunity to develop or maintain their well-being. It will not be possible to have good governance if there is no mediation and honesty on the part of the government and people who are always aware of the activities of the government. It is not easy to have good governance because of a lack of funds; there are corrupt people and thieves. We have the comfort, so choose honestly and fulfill the promises to bring change to the country. I learned that each characteristic has a meaning that makes us realize that without good governance, a country will not develop. Being a good leader is helpful and good to provide for our country and be an inspiration to future leaders to be good leaders and have a good governance. Riccah Lyn L. Granito BPAPFM 2-1

My key takeaway for this is that, Good governance relates to the political and institutional processes and outcomes that are necessary to achieve the goals of development. The true test of 'good' governance is the degree to which it delivers on the promise of human rights: civil, cultural, economic, political and social rights. Good governance adds a normative or evaluative attribute to the process of governing. From a human rights perspective it refers primarily to the process whereby public institutions conduct public affairs, manage public resources and guarantee the realisation of human rights, without good governance, human rights cannot be respected and protected in a sustainable manner. The implementation of human rights relies on a conducive and enabling environment. Apart from that is the characteristic of good governance. As we had also our research, we’ve been able to dig deeper with the relevance of good governance towards civil society. Its all about how a good system of public administration works in our society today.

I have always been aiming to see and experience good governance, especially in the Philippines. Because multiple decades now, I believe it is still beyond reach. I was able to meet people across the political field, and whenever I tell them about this aspiration, they tend to tell me it may not exist. And it makes me feel sad that people aren't really optimistic about it -- on some points, cannot be blamed. However, I know it could be tough, but doesn't mean it is impossible. Although, no matter how many subject matters philosophies aspire the world with, if people do not cooperate and collaborate with one another - it would really not be possible; as it is not just a work of a single entity alone, it is a work demanding the efforts of everyone, regardless of the differences of the human race.

My key takeaways for this lecture: I finally got the answer from our last discussion on how rule of law applies to public policies as a principle of good governance. I realized that the rule of law--albeit often misconstrued as for the equal benefit of all-- is concerned about upholding human rights especially those in the marginalized sector. It is not about giving the same treatment for every citizens (because some laws might be more beneficial for others such as the discount for senior citizens.) nor it is about providing preferential treatment for the few. Instead, rule of law is a mechanism fueled by the objective of protecting the rights of all citizens especially those those who have less in life. The law must be just and fair. Just like what the former President Ramon Magsaysay said, "Those who have less in life should have more in law.". Although citizens' participation is implied when they voted for their representatives during the election, it does not mean that governments should settle for that bare minimum. Institutionalizing the active-citizenship by encouraging more people to organize and giving them space in the deliberation process of policies that affects them. After all, the participation of civil society is actually mandated by the Constitution. So why not fortify it instead of vilifying the people who organize themselves in order to air their concerns.

Good governance is a critical component of effective administration in our country. While it exists in certain regions, it is unfortunately not consistently practiced at the national level. The absence of good governance can lead to a lack of standards and guidance, ultimately jeopardizing the welfare and efficiency of society. As public administrators, our role is pivotal in advising politicians to consistently uphold the principles of good governance. Our commitment and actions are vital in ensuring that good governance becomes a regular practice, thereby ensuring that society receives the fair and just treatment it deserves. In summary, good governance is akin to a guiding force that directs the government in fulfilling its obligations to the people.

My key takeaway from this lesson is that good governance is a cornerstone of having an efficient and sustainable growth and development. It includes a range of characteristics that when upheld, promotes a society that is favorable to citizens’ well-being and attaining fair progress. Having a government that is dedicated to good governance fosters an environment in which the public is actively involved in the decision-making process, guaranteeing that practices and policies reflect the interests and goals of the populace. As per the various characteristics given by different organizations, no matter how different it may be constructed from one another, the bottom line is that all of it are equally important to achieve the attainment of good governance. Also, it is important to highlight that having these concepts should be widely spread and given to the citizens. Ensuring that individuals are well-informed about the underlying principles and objectives of good governance can significantly enhance the likelihood of its successful implementation. A citizenry cognizant of the reasons for establishing and aspiring to achieve good governance is more likely to actively participate, thereby contributing to the realization of this ideal public service. Without the active involvement of citizens, the potential for substantial progress in achieving good governance remains constrained. Thank you for the wonderful discussion, Sir Krippe! The characteristics of good governance outlined by the UNDP are essential for the effective functioning of a government and the well-being of society. These, for sure, will lead to the ideal world we are expecting. It is imperative that governments embody these characteristics in order to effectively and efficiently serve their citizens and foster sustainable development. Therefore, it is essential for governments to prioritize and implement good governance in order to truly benefit the nation. And as a public administration student and even a normal individual, I should be aware of how good governance will be implemented. Once, I became a public worker. My key takeaway from the discussion is that good governance has no definite definition. The characteristics/elements given by the said institutions (UNDP, ADB & World Bank) serve as a guide for states to achieve the goal of attaining good governance. Meanwhile, among all the discussed definitions, UNDP’s Eight (8) Elements of Good Governance is more widely used in which all elements should be present to be considered as an implementation of good governance. While listening, I thought “It’s hard to achieve good governance” because of all the characteristics that the organization/government must maintain. It was stated earlier that all eight (8) characteristics must be present to achieve good governance however, maintaining one is already hard for our government. For example, in my opinion, participation is hard to implement and maintain in our country as not all people have the capacity to participate in political discussions. Some people would rather find solutions to how they could find food to eat in a day than waste their time discussing their grievances with politicians that they think wouldn’t even listen to their thoughts. “It is hard to achieve good governance” but it is not impossible to achieve. I think besides the government, people should also have knowledge of these characteristics as both the government and the stakeholders/citizens have parts to play in this road to good governance. One of the first things to do in my opinion is for the stakeholders to choose politicians who are also good and accountable leaders who would listen and represent them and their interests in the government. Transparency with information should then be implemented for stakeholders to be able to check and monitor the performance of government projects, programs, and statutes. Stakeholders can now evaluate whether these projects are still relevant to them or not, and demand accountability from the government. It might be difficult to attain good governance at the moment however, Filipinos, especially the youth, are slowly learning and taking steps to play the part of the stakeholders in this collective effort. Pursuing good governance has always been a long and challenging journey for the Philippines, but it is a vision we have been tirelessly striving for. 🙁 The current practice of governance may, in some areas, show some characteristics of good governance; however, it is quite limited. ☹😞 Acting upon a responsibility vested by the government entrusted by the people, it is a duty to act on the means of good governance, which can be seen and felt in the provision of Section 1 Article 11 of the Constitution where it provides "Public office is a public trust. Public officers and employees must, at all times, be accountable to the people, serve them with utmost responsibility, integrity, loyalty, and efficiency, act with patriotism and justice, and lead modest lives." My key takeaway from this lesson is that the definition of good governance will not always have a definite meaning across countries. Some methods may be effective but some may not experience the same progress. Maybe that is the reason why different institutions have different definitions of Good Governance. However, I noticed that among the definitions provided by UNDP, ADB, and Institute of Governance, Accountability, Transparency, and Participation were the ones always included. As I reflect on this observation, I think it is because accountability, transparency, and participation are characteristics that are the most fundamental when it comes to good governance. Nevertheless, this does not indicate that other characteristics mentioned are less important. To justify my answer, it was discussed that good governance may vary across borders. These borders are shaped by different cultures in which people have learned to live with. Thus, the participation of the people should be the basis of how the community will be governed. Transparency enables people to be informed if the method of governing is satisfactory and accountability within the government empowers the people to express their dissent if the government underperforms. This cycle allows the people to demand and/or acknowledge better governance because they are informed and empowered to distinguish between good and bad governance.

My key takeaway from this is how the characteristics as a complete set, make good governance, and when you don't effectively bring about atleast one characteristic, it wouldn't be good governance. Which may sound intimidating to some, but I guess if it does intimidate you to achieve and show these characteristics maybe you should rethink what your actual goals and motivations you have in entering public service and being a public servant. But, if you have your motivations right, your goals set for providing good governance, achieving and practicing these characteristics wouldn't be an issue of how hard it would be to provide them. My takeaway really is how a lot have to ask for our leaders to have these characteristics, and how in current events and issues, some of these characteristics are outright not shown or given (I won't say what issue specifically in order to not spark another issue with debates or arguments), and it is really alarming that we even have to ask for accountability and transparency which should be the bare minimum for good governance and yet we experience an outright shunning of transparency and good governance with what's going on right now. Another key takeaway for me is, as I was contemplating on myself on how I could apply these characteristics myself in what career the future would give me, and how I could identify as well if these characteristics are being fullfilled so that I can exercise my right as a citizen to demand that these characteristics are provided to the people.

What are your key takeaways? My key takeaways from this lesson are that governance is a multifaceted concept within the government, created for the betterment of public service delivery and for the sake of the citizens involved. Firstly, we can view governance as somewhat versatile in nature. The concept of governance can be either good or bad, depending on the actions taken and the execution of deeds within the sphere of public service. Moreover, I can assert that it is the backbone of the public sector and the core purpose of public administration, enabling organizations to carry out their work and fulfill their missions. However, even with this clear definition, for governance to be classified as good or bad, we should not approach it with black-and-white thinking; rather, we should open our minds to other contributing factors, such as traditions and norms within the country it governs. The traditions we have in the country also affect the nature of government deeds. Some actions, even if not perceived as good, can be lawful in the country, depending on the culture and norms to which they are subjected. Additionally, I learned that good governance doesn’t only consist of the positive deeds of the government; it must also have the following indicators that clearly define what good governance is. These include participation, the rule of law, transparency, responsiveness, consensus orientation, equity and inclusiveness, effectiveness and efficiency, and accountability. These indicators work together and define what good governance is. Without one of these, good governance is no longer defined as such. They all work hand-in-hand and can’t be complete without the other. Lastly, the principles of good governance are legitimacy and voice, direction, performance, accountability, and fairness. These form the foundation of what good governance is, the bedrock that constitutes good governance. In conclusion, I learned that good governance is a multifaceted concept necessary for the government to work and deliver efficient services to the masses. Without good governance, the government may be prone to failure.

My takeaway from the eight characteristics of good governance under UNDP is that they are essential for promoting sustainable development. These characteristics emphasize the importance of participation, transparency, accountability, and responsiveness to the needs of society. Good governance requires institutions and individuals to be accountable to the law, and it requires a broad and long-term perspective on what is needed for sustainable human development. It also requires mediation of different interests in society to reach a broad consensus. The importance of good governance cannot be overstated, as it is crucial for ensuring that all members of society have a voice in decision-making, that institutions are transparent and accountable, and that resources are used effectively and efficiently to meet the needs of society. Therefore, it is essential for governments, private sector organizations, and civil society organizations to prioritize good governance in their operations and decision-making processes. First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to Sir Krippe for the insightful discussion! ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡ The first thing that captured my attention was the consistent discourse by all of our major subject professors around the concept of good governance. The application of the concept goes beyond the government and involves other sectors, each with its own interpretations. As discussed, its relevance relies on the context of universal values and norms in a society. Further, institutions like the UNDP, Asian Development Bank, Institute of Governance, and World Bank all have their own definitions of good governance, which are talked about in the lecture video. However, they are not really that different from each other because they are all defining good governance in a comparable manner. Accountability, transparency, and the participation of the citizen in decision-making are the common ground of all the definitions. From what I understand, these are the fundamentals of an efficient government: guaranteeing a government that is attentive to its people's needs and taking responsibility for its actions. Together, these values help build a strong and stable society where leadership isn't just a show of power or politics but a team effort that gives everyone a voice and gets everyone involved. ദ്ദി ˉ͈̀꒳ˉ͈́ )✧ Daniela Clarisse P. Is good governance a well-established principle in the field or has it become an obsolete standard in politics that its essence becomes a shallow foundation for scholars in this discipline? Undeniably the facets of good governance extract the most benevolent perspective on running a government-may it be considered to have no definitive measures and definition. The fact remains that its standard puts forward the best outcome; evidently, the just-established Mayors for Good Governance in the Philippines. But the historical trajectory since it has become prominent in the mainstream, the amount of corruption has trumped the initiatives that are present in the status quo. Left and right international conflict, civil wars, and impunities from the core of the world. In that sense, the question arises how come the corruption persists with multiple layers causing societal concerns? Make it, make sense. Maybe the pressure should not be put to its maximum value on how a government should work with good governance as the standard of its role fulfillment. Maybe the trends in the status quo, link to another idea that there should be more contemporary standards for how society achieves a better framework for societal change(not the utmost idealistic state given with insoluble issues in the world). The MDG and SDG prove that the goals for better governance either fail or produce other trends. As 2030 comes near, maybe scholars need to concede to the fact that good governance needs to get updated on the same phenomenon with development goals.
