Governing Communities - Series conclusion Episode #3. Where from here? Taking action!

Perry Kinkaide as webinar host provides an overview of the survey and the importance of issues identified, their recommendations and several recommendations for a rewrite of the Municipal Governance Act. The follow-on discussion with the panel of Dawn Ringrose and Dennis Pommen and subsequent engagement of viewers identified options for taking the recommendations forward.
Discussed was the value of the survey instrument and findings in facilitating change. Recommended is to reference the Governing Communities series of webinars in correspondence as follows:
1. Public and Council issues and recommendations directed to Alberta's municipal CAOs for sharing with their Mayors and Councillors
2. Inter-municipal and Provincial issues and recommendations directed to municipal representatives including Alberta Municipalities (AM) and Regional Municipalities of Alberta (RMA)
3. Provincial issues and recommendations directed to the Alberta Minister and Deputy Minister of Municipal Affairs in addition to the recommended revisions to the Municipal Governance Act.
Given that there was such a strong alignment of the municipalities to what's wrong and what should be done about it, a suggestion was made for the Municipalities to consider drafting a unifying Charter. All in receipt of the correspondence will be invited to meet and for considering how to further action the recommendations aimed at resolving the important issues facing municipalities and managing the associated relationships.
