Apart from the fact that the government has imposed these extreme and unjustified measures illegally, despite increasingly overwhelming evidence. I find it totally abhorrent and immoral that they've turned citizens against each other, through fear, and in doing so have shown themselves unfit to govern. In deciding to comply would therefore also be irresponsible and immoral. As famously stated "All that is required for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing".

Outstanding lecture- an excoriating analysis of the appalling actions (and inaction) by the government, parliament and police and our shockingly rapid descent into authoritarianism and a police state. I, for one, would wish to ask a couple of questions of Lord Sumption: 1) Firstly, I was genuinely amazed at the length, complexity and detail contained in the various pieces of emergency legislation put before and passed by Parliament (Lord Sumption himself outlined comprehensively all they contained), and find it quite remarkable how closely the provisions echo those in the equivalent legislation of a great many nations. A more cynical man might think they had (a) been worked up at length over many months and (b) there had been collaboration on text between nations. Does Lord Sumption have a view on this, and would such a thing be common practice? 2) I do not know if the good Lord takes much interest in global(ist) politics rather than his obvious wide understanding of law and its application internationally, but I would be most interested to hear his views on whether he believes this push for authoritarianism on a global scale is in some way coordinated and/or linked to the WEF’s “Great Reset” and the UN’s Agenda 21 and the seeming drive towards global, autocratic government. Is this something he believes to be the case, to be in any way desirable for the UK and how might it affect governance within the UK? 3) I was most interested to here Lord Sumption’s thoughts on the civic duty, currently, to look not just to obeying the Covid legislation & regulations (on dodgy ground as the may be) but also to take a pragmatic, moral view on how far to obey, ignore or resist them. Given that I agree with his assessment that it does not appear likely we will release this authoritarian grip of power any time soon and also share his understanding that a more confrontational approach to resisting such bad law & governance is “not the British Way”, I would be keen to hear his thought on the oft quoted (but no doubt misunderstood) concept of “lawful rebellion” and its appropriateness in times such as these. Does such a right (or obligation) still exist; under what circumstances would it be deemed appropriate or necessary, and how does one embody it without falling foul of any legal weight/protection it may have? We are, indeed, living through truly strange and unprecedented (at least in living memory) times. I can only hope and pray that Lord Sumption will continue to speak out so eloquently, fearlessly and in such considered terms as we navigate a course through these stormy seas. I have no doubt that his sage words will be of exceptional benefit to us all as we endure the challenges ahead.

Stormy seas ahead indeed. Where does an ordinary, lowly UK pensioner go for advice about declining vaccination? Is it fear mongering or will a mandatory vaccine be here in the next 18 months? Every citizen of the UK should watch this fascinating and insightful lecture given by Lord Sumption. It is of such importance that it amazes me how little debate on these issues has taken place in the public domain. We’ve been hugely let down by so many... from government, opposition, organisations such as Liberty, the police and most of our mainstream media. There are just no real statesmen/women left in the corridors of power! But I’m confident that eventually the uk population will catch up and history will judge those engaging in such appalling and ill -advised actions. History always does!
