My husband is a Yooper and I had never even laid eyes on the Mackinac bridge before meeting him, and after seeing the UP, I was in love. We even got married at Pictured Rocks! It's funny though, he's never ventured in the western UP. We will be visiting Houghton and Copper Harbor next summer! I am so excited to see more of MI's beautiful country!

Born and raised in Michigan, all my family is still there. But after a stint in the Army, I've lived in the Carolina's for a very long time. Allow me to pose this observation: I've noticed that all Governors truly reflect the caricuture of their state's population-especially with their "accents" (listen to the governor of South Carolina, etc). I love a good mid-western accent, and Gretch (whom is an amazing and strong leader!) sounds so much like my family whenever I travel "home". When I was in basic training (50 years ago), my Drill Sergeant made me do 10 pushups for "talking through my nose". I had no idea what he was talking about! 😂 Keep going, Gretch! 💪✋ Oh! This woman has been on my hero list since “Fix the Damn Roads”! Having driven more miles in MI than I care to admit this was right on point for me. One day, bumping and thumping my way down the highway in my truck I heard her slogan on the radio. With an ecstatic fist pump, I yelled H*ll yes! This woke my husband in the back bunk who confusedly asked if all was ok. After telling him the story he replied, “That sure would make sleeping easier.” Then nonchalantly, “Let’s stop for breakfast.” That was my introduction to Governor Whitmore. I don’t think federal and state funding are meant to be used on that unless your local authority put the effort in writing a petition. The freeways are either fixed or under construction so I would consider her promise fulfilled

I met her as an autism advocate to pass legislation regarding disability rights. And then met her again at a Lions game. Possibly the same one she met Bob Seger at. (Didn't meet him) And she recognized me immediately. Such a great and inspirational leader.
