It is a 'product' rather than 'something the UK lives on' ........yet this "huge" roadblock is being used by the Leave camp to cover up that they don't have a plan or any great, world beating, oven ready deals in the works.
@reonireson58734 жыл бұрын
You don’t really understand it’s purpose then. Fishing’s being used as a bargaining chip because the UKs EEZ covers some of the best fishing grounds in Europe, which are particularly used by french fishing fleets. Fishing in France, like in the UK, holds large symbolic importance and creates many single issue voters (fishermen and seaside communities). The brexit team are using it to persuade macron, who needs those votes, into offering a move favourable deal ( for example, one with a lack of regulatory alignment (aka Brussels makes the rules) and without ECJ oversize)and to use itSinfluence in the EU. It also helps to divide the bloc, because the eastern countries have no need for fishing rights, and will pressure France to drop an issue ‘which only accounts for .1% of GDP”. The .1% argument can cut both ways, and also is futile at best because GDP isn’t as important to voters as people make it out to be.

The reason British fishing only counts for a small fraction of our GDP is because everyone in Europe is allowed to fish in our waters apart from British fishermen. Time to tell them to jog on, claim back our waters, grow our fishing industry back.
