I have the 92fs full size and the centurion both a great. The full size I have since 1982 and it has many rounds through it without one malfunction. I have several different types of handguns , if I had to grab one and run pretty sure it’s Beretta.

Agreed. I know people give Beretta a lot of shit for not really doing as well/promoting their PX4 and APX series like they do the 92, but I'm thankful they focus so much of their attention with the 92 series. It's their most popular pistol and primarily what they're known for. Beretta still trying to improve the Beretta 92 as well as all these companies providing third party support all these decades later is a win for the gun community and 92 lovers everywhere. Wilson Combat and Langdon Tactical are probably the two most popular third party companies when it comes to the Beretta 92, but there are thousands of companies (triggers, springs, rods, holsters, mags, ect.) out there that still support the Beretta 92.

I was issued an M9 back in the early 90s by the Army. Stable, accurate and simple. Got one for myself a few years back. Shot just like I remembered, very much worth the money.

@@markarcher2441 that's the way to go. Most Beretta 92 aren't designed to be cocked and locked so I don't see the benefits of including a safety. You could always keep your thumb on the hammer while holstering so there's no way you can accidentally discharged you Beretta 92. By having a decocker only model, the gun will always fire and you don't have to manually release the hammer while pulling the trigger to drop the hammer.

As someone who's handled the 92FS for years (since I was 12; I'm 28 now), I personally prefer the Type F decocker/safety because it gives me more affirmative control over the gun. It's also safer. When drawing from concealment, I do not consider it an issue to flick my thumb barely an inch to turn the safety/decocker off (and if you've ever seen the Primary & Secondary podcast with Ernest Langdon and Garand Thumb, you'd know there's an even easier way of sweeping the safety from the top-down). I completely understand the rationale of the Type G, and I take no issue with it, however, I personally prefer the Type F for the reasons I've listed above.

Agreed. My very experienced 229 .40 logged many thousands of hours on my hip during my LE career. Wore out 2 sets of night sights. I swore by it, never had to swear at it, and it was quite accurate. Anyone who says the 40 is inaccurate either has the wrong gun or does not shoot well enough. Still use it as a house gun.

I bought the 92FS and put every part Wilson Combat has to offer on it. Love this gun. Then I bought the Sig P320 and I've started with adding the Wilson Combat grip module and weight kit. This thing is freaking awesome. Everything Bill Wilson and his engineers come out with I'll probably buy because it's golden ! Keep up the awesome work gentlemen.

A single action striker fired pistol that's carried cocked and locked is inherently dangerous. Way too many accidental and negligent discharges with striker fired pistols. Much harder to accidentally or negligently discharge DA/SA pistols.

I think the M17 is better for general issue to people who aren't getting a lot of training. But as a "gun guy" I personally like the Beretta 92 more, especially a G model.

I like both, but OMG is the Sig a nice gun. My 5X is too accurate, it shows the accuracy limits of the lose nut behind the gun (too light of trigger pull for self defense). For men like us, I assume you also have large hands, the B92 is wonderful. Recall some women, as this video notes, have a finder about one digit shorter than the average man. These are mass issued guns for a broader group of people than the Beretta. This is from someone who loves SA/DA.

I hated the M9 when I first handled one at OCS (21 years ago!). But it grew on me over the years and multiple deployments. When I hit the 20 year mark, I finally bought my own to mark the occasion. I immediately replaced all the modern polymer parts (trigger, safety, guide rod, mag release) with factory metal parts and the grips with walnut for that extra touch of class. I'm still a few years from hanging up my sword for good and the military is obviously moving on from the M9, but it will always be MY sidearm. I'm glad I decided to take the plunge and add one to my small collection.

I own a clone of Beretta 92 (Taurus PT917C) that "correct" the placement of safety/decocker and place it on the frame. Basically is the same gun and I simply love it; is a beautiful (almost sexy), dependable, accurate and simple to use gun; not to mention an incredible soft recoil !!

ONE YEAR LATER: I recently bought an M18 and really like it! For a 5-6lb trigger, I think a safety is a great idea; the line between competent and complacent can be tragically thin. Also, I can't help but think about various grip/slide combos to put together--almost a Lego pistol!

I'm with you Mas, I'm a manual safety guy. Carry a Beretta 92SB compact made in Italy 1982. I did my own melt job low profile controls long before they were popular.... And gave it a matte hard chrome plating this thing is a tank. Striker fire pistols you can keep them polymer frame pistols you can keep them.

I've seen more malfunctions with the M9 than any other handgun. Sure a lot of that has to do with them all being 30+ years old, but that's also a good reason to replace them. Springs and the like are something I can understand, but even M9s with relatively low round counts have had slides, hammers, and locking blocks getting cracked or broken during normal courses of fire. The latter of which I've seen three times, to include my own pistol during a range right before deployment. That's not to say the P320's without its own issues, (like the compact model's guide rod, which can be put in the pistol wrong, or the safety pin falling out of a removed FCU, and the generally loose fitment between slide & frame) but having shot the both a fair bit, I'd much rather have the latter!

Great conversation! A the risk of being branded a heretic, I chose a Taurus PT-92 over a Beretta because of the frame safety/decocker. As Mas mentioned, I had found that common thumb movement that would cover both bases.

I'm in the same boat. I chose the Taurus for the same reasons and have assured myself that it isn't heresy since Taurus didn't reverse engineer the gun like others would have. They simply bought the factory with all the tooling still in it. It's really just a 92 made under different management.

When I went to pick up my Sig there was one with and one without a manual safety at the shop. They cost the same but I decided to pick up the one with the safety. I never really found it as an issue to have that safety. Being around the AR system a lot, you get used to always sweeping your thumb to actuate a safety lever anyways.

Yeah and if you don't want to use the safety you can always choose not to. There's nothing bad about having a safety as an option I'd rather have it and just not use it if I don't want to. Some people will argue its in the way of reacting quickly to a threat. If you feel like that simply don't use the safety. If I'm carrying one in the chamber and concealed where the barrel is pointing at my body at any given time. Then I want a safety. Seeing a safety as an issue is just stupid imo unless the safety is a flawed design that can be actuated accidentally. In which case that's a problem with the specific firearms safety mechanism. Not the idea of a safety itself.

Thank you Gentlemen, very informative. I bought the Sig M18 and absolutely love it. It came with the ambi-safety. However, I was able to remove and replace with an $11 OEM pin from Sig. To cover the two holes that were left (and keep the pin from sliding out), I replaced the lower with a Wilson Combat grip module. This is without a doubt the most accurate pistol I’ve owned. And it fits perfectly in my hand. Thank you for all you do Mr. Wilson! And God Bless!!

My father gave me his Beretta 92 a year before he past away, I have found that I love this firearm more than all my other 9mm in the past (Ruger, Glock, Kel tec, F&N) Although my old Ruger SR9 is my second favorite but I ended up giving that to a close friend. I put a set of grips that also put a picatinny rail on it so I can run a light\laser combo on it. I have also made my son watch the videos Massad made on light tactics and when to answer the door at 3am so he was briefed on those SOP's in my house now. Thank you Massad for making these video's. Got a Beretta M9 two days ago! Love it! Been wanting that one since 20 years ago! Was about to jump when my old company tossed me to China….Ended up working 8 years there before coming back in 2013 with a 1.5 year old in tow and another one baking in my wife’s belly so no go on guns of any kind. Now that my kids are much older, I finally got mine! Worth it for $619.99! Now, yes, I know some people are put off by the M92F/M9’s weight and double action trigger, but if you have kids, those features are almost kids proof. As my oldest said, how did John Wick swing two of these around? And both need their two trigger fingers to finally pull the trigger through so they are not gonna play cowboys and Indians with this piece lol.

I quite like how as the market has developed over the years you find people that end up going back. The beretta replaced the 1911 and it has similarity. So it's quite old but the 1911 is older and it still won 2 world wars and is still going and has good qualities that still make it a competitor today. So there is roots but it's also not an ugly piece of plastic so you gotta respect the drip. It's a higher quality. A glock is more plastic than it isn't it seems like. I can see how there is an advantage. Lighter weight, cuts like 100 bucks off each gun so if you have to buy a million for an army then it's a 100 million savings buying a glock as compared to a beretta. So it's a hearty price for the quality. What is it worth to not have a plastic trigger amirite

I own a 92FS and a M18. Love them both. I also served in the Army and carried the M9 for many years. Both pistols are extremely reliable and accurate. Personal I prefer the external safety on any pistol especially for military service. It’s just another layer of safety. With training it’s just muscle memory to manipulate them. Definitely like the ability to swap out the lower frame to suit the shooters needs. That was definitely an issue with the M9. For me I enjoy both equally.

I have the 92FS, the P320, and the P365XL. I love each, practice with each, and will carry any of them on any given day. The 92FS just "feels right" to me, as it fits my hand quite well, I've habituated to it during my time in the US Navy, and I've never had a bad experience with it. The P320 was my first striker-fire pistol, and I like the fact that it's smaller (and therefore easier to conceal) without being too small to shoot comfortably. The P365XL is even easier to conceal, and the manual safety on it makes it even more comfortable to carry than the P320. None of them has given me reason for regret. For me, it's both Betty and Veronica.

I had a 92FS for over 20 years and switched to the P320. The locking block in my Beretta broke once, rendering it inoperable. I consider that part its Achilles heel. My P320 has not failed yet in over 4 years, despite the small parts.

Great video. Love both guns. My US Army experience, they never taught an over the top manipulation of the slide. Always slingshot. And you didn't really need to teach it, it's just kinda natural when you work with the gun enough. You go over the top, you stand a good chance of losing a piece of skin or glove in the slide, and putting the safety on. He was correct a bit later - Index your fingers and hold the safety lever in place when racking. Just a little quirk of the beretta

I own both and I’m torn. When I first got my P320, it was so easy to pick up and shoot it well. Great flat trigger. Very much a natural pointer. Just easy to learn. Now that I have more rounds downrange with the 92SF I learned a few exercises with the gun using a snap cap and I’m shooting it better than any of my guns, save my PDP and my VP9.. I get easy hits at 50 yards. I don’t shoot the P320 as well. That’s just me.

I’ve got a Wilson Combat Centurion Tactical and is has the trigger job and it shoots absolutely fantastic! The trigger is the thing dreams are made of and it’s # 20 that rolled off the line which is pretty cool.

I prefer the Beretta, and hand size is probably why. I wear 2XL gloves. XL is too tight and the finger length too short, so I have no issues with the 92s trigger at all. I was taught the Isràeli method early on, and don't have issues with the safety either. Now I know why.

I’m one of the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” crowd. I’ve used the Beretta 92 full size and compact for years and have no reason to change. Both my 92s have the Wilson Custom Carry package installed and operate flawlessly scoring 1 to 2 inch groups at 25 yards unsupported. If Andy Brown can drop an attacker at 70 yards with a stock M9 as he did in ‘94, that’s good enough for me.

My first pistol was a 92FS that I bought way back in 1990 (I was in the USAF at the time). I bought it so I could have and train with the same pistol the USAF qualified us all in. I love it and still own it. I swapped the grip panels out for Wilson combat thin grips and threw in a D spring. I honestly don't know how many rounds I have through it, but the trigger is butter smooth. I also own a 92FS Compact and bought an M9A3 last year. Just for grins, I also bought a Beretta CX-4 Storm that uses the 92 series magazines. I'd say I'm somewhat of a fan of Beretta. Zombie apocalypse scenario and I'd grab either one of the full size Berettas or my Glock 17 - it would just be which one is closer at the time.

The 92Gs help with the issues with the safety, being a decocker only. I prefer a hammered weapon over striker.

Mr Wilson can take any gun and make it better. When I trained Army folks on the M9, some with small hands had a heck of time pulling that first shot. So, looking at the details on the qual course, we told them there was no reason they couldn’t chamber a round with the safety OFF, so the hammer would be cocked. I love both the M9 and M17 and my first issue pistol, the 1911. Most in the Army only carry a pistol for a decoration and will never fire one in combat.

I own a Sig P320 M-17 (FDE) and I like it a lot!!!! I also like the 21rd magazines they make for it. I own 4 versions of P320s, one I use in 3-Gun competition.

I just had to share this, when I began with my department, I qualified with three guns, a Sig P229 .40 (my duty weapon), a Beretta 92 9mm (ccw), and a Glock 22 .40 (ccw). The department was using exclusively Sigs, of various models. I went to have my paperwork signed off, the rangemaster asked which agency I'm with. I found out later, they considered Glocks dangerous and would not allow them on their range. Down the road, they get a killer deal from Glock, free exchange for new Glock 9mm for all of the Sig's. I purchased a Sig P320 9mm. I went to do my qual, had the rangemaster check my weapon for safety, he came back and said sorry fella, this model was never accepted by the department. I went back and finished my qual with my Sig P229. So, an interesting change in opinion, the Glocks were so dangerous that they were not allowed on the range, but the Sig P320 was not acceptable, and the department went to glocks. All I can say is politics. The P320 is a great firearm, there were some problems early but all were fixed. Massad, I've trained with you, people say you are old school, but you are the best and can prove it. jrh

Sounds like your range officers were founding members of the Flat Earth Society. 🙄 Let’s not evolve with technology. The good news is; they don’t believe the responsibility to train officers to a suitable level of competency is THEIRS! Or that firearms are inherently dangerous in the hands of poorly trained officers. They conveniently forget that those poorly trained officers are turned loose on the general public every day without adult supervision.

I love the 92FS. I'm a tall guy with big hands. It fits my hand like they had me in mind when they designed it. My hand is also too big for the 1911, which I think sucks anyway, but that's another story for another day. I'll take the Beretta any day!

I have 92FS Inox and for me is one the most reliables pistol on market, pretty accurate, it’s a piece on gun art. I haven’t any malfunctions with that gun.
