With it's concrete walls, Tamburello was always a nasty corner.

@SCRTpilot problem is the tendency in F1 right now is to have mainly slow speed corners or high speed ones with masses of run off. A tyre barrier may have helped Senna but there was never going to be enough run off at that corner. The only option was to do what they did, make Tamburello a chicane and move the last chicane back a bit to make the start straight slightly longer.

No the concrete wall should've been moved right next to the tarmac. This makes the crash angle tiny.

It was barely a corner after all, with all the downforce the cars had. They should've just flatten the run off area so it's on level with the track (it was cambered instead) and also move the walls back or put something softer than a concrete wall. Such a great track ruined needlessly in the end, like many others.

There is no space for other than the wall... because behind the wall there is the Santerno river. Also a soft barrier in some cases, is worse than a concrete one (at that time, the "soft walls" were not invented yet)

They could've just bridged the river, but I guess they were to greedy to spend the money. It fired back though since the modifications they had to make for 1995 were much more expensive.

@@gufo_tave no. Move the wall right up next to the tarmac. This eliminates the crash angle

no, Senna hit the wall at the outside. The river is on the outside of the track and hence why the run off area couldn't be extended.

Listen to me sweetheart I'm actually directly quoting Nigel Mansell . He said Tamburello was a nasty corner. And he drove on that circuit all through the 80's and early 90's. Did you ever go round tamburello at 180 mph? I'm guessing not.

@SCRTpilot nah it's a pretty big river, anyway it's a bit late I think you'll agree...
