Here's a mod for g.p owners. Hold the pointer tip up. Shine a bright flashlight against the tip. If the light goes through, your coil hasn't been seated properly. This is the main cause of g.p pinpointer disappointment. This happens with at least 50% of the units sold.Thankfully, its an easy fix. Pop the rubber cap off the switch (very easy to do). Take at least a one foot length of stiff, thin wire. I did mine with mechanics wire. Bend a small handle for grip. Make sure the wire will reach the tip by laying the wire on the pinpointer and check switch to tip distance. Put a slight curve in the wire, then slide the wire along the left side the switch till you feel resistance. Gently push a bit harder, and the coil will slide right to the tip. Pull wire out gently, then replace rubber switch cover. You will be amazed at the difference. It tripled the tip strength, and toned down the falsing quite a bit. Now I get torn between using my Garrett carrot, and my G.P. Happy digging, Hank P.s I also know a clean, easy, chemical free,cheap way to waterproof your g.p pinpointer, or just want to protect the tip from sharp rocky soil, or abrasive beach sand. Simply firmly tapping the tip straight down on a hard surface will seat the coil all the way down...it is only friction fit and handling can shift it.

I just got one of these pinpointers. I'm happy with it so far. I haven't had the wallet to experience a Garrett yet so I have nothing to compare it to but I'm happy with it, especially for the price.

I used one all last of summer, it was faulting a lot when i first got it, I opened it up, took out the winded rod out that was in it ,I then used a fair-rite core rod out of an old am radio, put a 150 turns of 0.28awg wire, i removed a capacitor were the coil connects on the circuit put it all back together and been using ever since with out a problem. sensitivity is ok but, For the price! it's well worth it, like you said, spend that extra 100$ on the detector and learn to live with a cheap pnpointer will serve you better in the long run.

The GPS Pointer is as good as most pinpointers. I always find with these comparisons that the tests show them in a bad light just so it justifies spending ridiculous amounts on name brands. There's far too much dick waving going on in metal detecting. You could spend thousands and still dig up crap.

Totally agree mate I've got a gp pointer and it does what it's supposed to ok it's not hi tech it doesn't need to be it needs to locate targets and it does

im sure your garret is 3 times better but it is also 4 times the price lol however, this POS works nonetheless, and if it dies i' m not heart broken about it. i can buy 2 more and it would still be a money saver lol.

Buenas...Consulta: compre el detector y lo calibre correctamente, lo paso por objetos metálicos y coincide con lo explicado en el video, ahora bien: cuando lo paso por una piedra que encontré el detector registra algo, pero lo interesante y que me llama la atención es que cuando lo alejo de la piedra este sigue sonando (con los otros objetos metales no sucede) alguien sabe porque puede suceder?? Yeah i use a gp pointer with a 400 I on the beach in Australia if the detecter tell me its there the pointer finds sure enough i would like a Garret but cant afford one and dont know if it would be better anyway

I have used garrets version and I have to say I noted little difference, definitely not £90s worth of difference anyway. 👍

I have watched a bunch of these reviews and each time the GP seems to perform as well as the Garrett if not a little better at times. I do not doubt that it is not as well made, but for 1/5th the price it does ok.
