Very important info here that applies to all detectorists… i noticed you turned them on near your ring. Always start them up holding away from any metals. They calibrate when you turn them on, if you start them whilst on metal they will calibrate to zero and will not work or reduce your working distance. This may be why the f-pulse had very different results when restarting. Test it for yourself guys.

Great review, thanks for taking the time to compare these. I opted for the F-Pulse, and it's an amazing pinpointer. It takes a little time to remember the settings, but has incredible depth penetration in any soil type. No interference with a VLF type detector, but can sometimes cross-talk with a PI detector. The F-Pulse does have 16 different frequencies (via Frequency Shift) to choose from, so you can usually find one or more frequencies that will play well with almost any detector. I did see one review online where the F-Pulse just was not compatible with a PI type detector (I think it was a MineLab, but could be mistaken). I got the Fisher because of the depth and because it works so well in mineralized soil. Cost for mine was $120 and I think it's worth that ... all of the good pinpointers are pretty expensive.

I have a GP pointer. I wouldnt say stay away. it is really cheap and makes a huge difference compared to blind searching your holes for targets. if you havent got a lot of money this is worth a try. I like the fact that it isnt too sensitive (although I dont find it particularly poor in terms of sensitivity). I find that I want my pinpointer to have a short range so that I know that I'm in the right spot, is that not the point after all? What I dont like about the GP pointer is that it has one tone. the shorter the tone lasts the further you are away rom target. The tone stays on for longer as you get closer (you can actually see this in the video). This is not as great as a pinpointer that progressively beeps faster as you get closer in my opinion. The bigger reason that I would stay away is that the quality is inconsistent from unit to unit. I have owned two. The first one worked flawlessly, it made metal detecting so much more fun. However the second one seems to false read in some soil, soil that the first one did not. So that is the gamble. However at the price point the first one I bought was absolutely perfect for me and did the job. thanks for the video, I found it very useful!

Any info to share on using these pinpointers to find linear targets such as copper tubing used for propane lines and copper electrical wires that are not powered? Both could be considered to be semi-infinite in length with the propane lines perhaps 12-16 inches down and the electrical wires only a few inches below the surface. Thanks

Pinpointers are good for getting close to a target. I would say within 0-3 inches depending on the sensitivity setting. For what your describing, I would probably used a metal detector followed by a pointer when you think you’re getting close to the wire or pipe.

I’m not trying to sound skeptical of your review but I have a Garret Pinpointer and once you turn it on , you press the power button and hold for a second and a half. You can now quick press to cycle through the settings, it will beep according to the sensitivity level. Basically one beep is low power, two beeps is medium power and three beeps is high power. On high sensitivity, it will respond to a target more than 3” away.

No problem. It has 2 modes. 3 vibrations ( depending on sensitivity setting ) and 3 tone/vibration ( depending on sensitivity setting ). Basically, you have six choices based on a High, Medium and Low sensitivity setting in each of the two modes. I want to say it also has somewhat of a ground balance feature once the pointer is in contact with the soil. I never use that feature so I can’t remember exactly what it does. I also recommend running it in the Medium sensitivity setting because low is weak and high will cause the unit to report on targets beyond the initial target you may be seeking. Just my personal preference. Just like your detector, there’s a learning process. On the medium setting ( in either mode ) it will activate about 2” from a coin such as a penny. Activation distance is relative to the size of the target. So if it activates, say six - eight inches from your target, you know it’s not going to be a small coin but probably a large portion of iron. Just thought you might like the information. Hi, In the video, when the first measurement is 4 minutes and 15 seconds, the result is very poor. he said the first time you opened it... the first time, you said... Then at 4:22 seconds he said you wanted to turn it back on What is this if not an adjustment like he talk about? Then at 4 minutes and 33 seconds into the video, he say the sensitivity seems to change after rebooting. Therefore, the detection effect at 4 minutes and 38 seconds is significant. If this isn't an action that changes sensitivity, what is? he should know very well,.... Garrett's detector also uses a power button to change sensitivity... But I don't see he adjusting the Garrett's sensitivity or trying to reboot. Did he dare to say that such a test is fair? It's not like he said there was no sensitivity testing... he is apparently escorting Fisher Labs... In fact, I think that if he reply is that you did not read the manual clearly and misadjusted it, I won't take it seriously either therefore **I think each of this channel all of the test and evaluation videos needs to be rechecked.

If you were to take a coin and run it down the side of the geritt till it sounds then pull it back till the sound stops. You will get twice the distance. I'm not sure if it work on the ether brands. Let me know what you think

The garret is much more sensative on it's side than the tip. I imagine that's true of all the pin pointers.

The GP pointer you tested is an older model. It doesn't have an increasing tone as it gets closer and closer to a metal target. The newer versions do (the GP2, TC-110, etc).

Yep the GP pointer for the price is where any new detectorist needs to start out, since some of those pointers are as much as they want to spend on a detector, or even their whole entry level hobby. It is waterproof but only below the speaker port, so it's fine for searching wet sand at the beach or in surface mud etc. It will pinpoint down to about 0.05 grams (direct contact) which I think should be the real test for a pinpointer. You've already determined that your target is out of the hole. For that price, the GP pointer also comes with a holster and a tether. They also come in a range of colours, not just orange. Detection range for a large coin is about 1 1/4 inches or slightly more but like I said, I don't think that's so extremely important as long as you can get the pointer close enough.

If youturn on the GP pointer with a coin pressed on the end of it then remove the coin when it gives you the "ready" beep, the sensitivity level is a lot higher

Are all Pinpointers detection angle 360°? Is there any model which can detect only what it's in front of it? Like 60° or less? Or I can adjust the angle on these Pinpointers?

You’ll find most pinpointers are designed with 360 degree detection. I haven’t personally used it, but the old White’s TRX may be more of what you’re referring to. I not aware of a way to adjust the settings on any of them. Also, the tip actually isn’t the most sensitive part. The most sensitive area is about a 1/2 inch up from the tip.

It kind of depends on how much you want to spend. All detectors will find coins but some of the more high end machines are more specific for prospecting. I would check out Minelab’s lineup. They have a range of detectors that will fit any budget.

Are you sure that the Garrett was at full sensitivity? I ran the same test on a 1936 Mercury dime with my Garrett Pro-pointer AT and was able to detect it at 2¼ inches.

It was on the factory default setting which is medium sensitivity. I'm planning on doing some follow-up tests with each device on every setting to see what the differences may be.

That’s an excellent question. I just compared the Garrett, Fisher, Minelab and XP. There’s not a huge difference but the XP Mi-4 has the strongest vibration followed by the Garrett. You can check out my full review on the XP in another one of my videos.

The fisher needs to be turned on away from any metal. Shortpressing the power button while turned on, re-adjusts the sensitivity. Cool feature on the fisher: it uses AAs and they last forever.

I just bought the minelab pro-find 35 yesterday. We took it out to try it out today and it was causing way to much interference with my whites mxt. Is there a setting I am missing? I had to turn off my detector after I found a dig then use the pinpointer. After about 20 uses the battery that came with it was dead. It just kept shutting off. Luckily I had a spare. It was kind of a pain to use.

That’s disappointing to hear. I’m not surprised about the battery. Sometimes the ones that are shipped don’t last that long, especially if they are off-name brands. The interference issue is challenging unless you have a frequency shift feature. You may want to try another pinpointer to see if it works better with your detector. If so, I would return the Pro-Find.

I’ve never used one in that manner, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. I guess the concern would be the size of the material you’re looking for. It would probably hit on small bits of precious metals, but I don’t know about tiny flakes. You would probably need to set the sensitivity level to high.

That’s an interesting question. Some metals will block out the signals of other metals. For example, iron will sometimes mask precious metals. Aluminum may also cause interference, but I don’t know of anything that completely blocks it out. Non-metallic substances that are extremely dense would be interesting to test.

Wish I had watched this review earlier. I’ve always used the Garrett Propointer, however I find they don’t last more than 6 months before being becoming erratic. Gone through about 4 of them. They’re good whilst they are working. I tried a Mine-lab next, it was hopeless. That 1 lasted only 2 months before going erratic. Now bought 2 x GP propointer, they are not sensitive at all. You basically have to be right on top of the target before it registers. They’re both destined for the bin. Looks like I might try a Fisher next!

Sometimes you have to open them up and push the rod n coil all the way forward put a flashlight on backside of coil housing it should be dark all the way to the end if you see light on the end you can fix it just open n push it all the way forward plenty of vids on how my gp pointers are just as good sometimes better than the Garret and have actually lasted longer for $20 why would you buy a Garret I use my pointers hot as I can get them n don't want adjustable sensitivity why would I it's transmit field is already small enough just another gimmick to break yea I had two garrets but no more

All of them will detect gold to some degree. For example, gold rings or nuggets. It gets a little trickier with smaller items like earrings or flakes. I haven’t specifically tested these on those types of things, but I’ll try to incorporate that into my next video.

I’m trying to find a metal detector or pinpointer than coin alert me when there’s a silver quarter mixed in with about 100 clad quarters when spread out on a table. Do you have any suggestions?

I don’t think one exists because the clad still contains copper and I’m not aware of any that will discriminate between that and silver. You can check out my video on the Nokta pinpointer which has a feature to discriminate between ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

Not to knock all them but try whites bulls eye 2 black has Sen adjustable for straight down and 360 9 volt with light about $70 or so depending where you buy it been using about 7yrs pretty dang good give it shot maybe do another video using it and others that was cool demo.

Raw basic was GP. Plain and simple but didn't last long. A drop or two and I was buying another always under 20 bux. Broke down bought a Carrot and glad I did. All I need is a pointer so I don't use all the bells and whistle. Wished Garret made a plain and simple that would last. They would sell the hell out of them, 3 to 1.

I agree. I’ve gone through two regular Garretts in eight years. One I submerged and it drowned lol. I like the Carrot though. It seems durable.

They’re pretty comparable. The Fisher seems to have greater sensitivity. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them.

I’ve had 3 out of the 4. Garrett, GP, and Fisher. Your comparison is pretty accurate. I get better performance out of the Garrett than you do, but the Fisher is still much better. I like using the Garrett though, only for the fact that it pairs to my headphones.

I feel like you would want the signal to activate closer to your target for a few reasons. The fisher activated too far away in my opinion. One - what if there are multiple targets. Could get confusing and you could lose one. Two- it seems like you would search more because of the distance it activates from target.

*I think one thing this comparison fails to rate or grade, is the way they respond to targets. I find that that’s far more important than the overall sensitivity and depth. Because when you dig around in there, you’ll be close enough anyway most of the time, however giving you the proper feedback as to whether you’re getting closer to the actual target or not, that is something that’s super important to me. And not all PinPointers have the same feel in that regards.. Otherwise, great ad for any of em* 🤣👌

Enjoyed the video, however I would like to see the different levels of sensitivity. I don't always want to locate at a longer distance (max sensitivity). I often use the different levels for different conditions. Example, lots of trash I will use the lowest setting.

I have the 35 2016 ats still in box gp pointers are ok as a back up cheap 40 in minelab very good. If i do one and 2 dollar coin hunt i save and only spend finds on pinpointers take the sting out marked up prices.

You should evaluate the Nokta Pulse Dive. It's more sensitive than the Fischer, has a flashlight and 60 feet water resistance. It can also be upgraded to an underwater detector. Personally I would spend more money on a high end pinpointed than a metal detector. Finding silver coins in black sand at the beach is so much easier.

F-pulse is super sensetieve ,but only for big enough targets like coins. Check it for gold nuggets ,small earing etc and you will be disappointed. XP MI6 and Nokta Accupoint would be my choice if that's the case. For coins F-pulse is the best

I started with a orange GP Pointer. Absolutely hated it. Upgraded to a real Garrett carrot and love it. I recommend to get a quality pinpointer. Don't skimp out and get a cheap one.

If money is limited , spend it on the detector and get a cheap pointer, did not use a pin pointer at all for first decade or more of detecting.....then bought a carrot and lost it after a month of use..replaced it with a 20 dollar cheap import a week later....just as happy. ...Most important thing in this great hobby is LOCATION....stress on that one

Ok, In the video, when the first measurement is 4 minutes and 15 seconds, the result is very poor. You said the first time you opened it... the first time, you said... Then at 4:22 seconds you said you wanted to turn it back on What is this if not an adjustment? Then at 4 minutes and 33 seconds into the video, you say the sensitivity seems to change after rebooting. Therefore, the detection effect at 4:38 is significant. If this isn't an action that changes sensitivity, what is? You should know very well, Garrett's detector also uses a power button to change sensitivity... But I don't see you adjusting the Garrett's sensitivity or trying to reboot. Do you dare to say that such a test is fair? It's not like you said there was no sensitivity testing... You're apparently escorting Fisher Labs...
