Hi Gordon , Nice run through on the starter. Just a word on under cutting the commutator. For a generator ( dynamo ) yes, starter motor no need. Cheers, Paul.

Hi Gordon, it’s what we were taught at Ag college, I don’t have a definitive answer technically but I remember an argument that one set receives a current while the other delivers & there’s plenty out there that recommend to undercut. Cheers, Paul.

Hi Barry. I have now stripped mine. The leads for the brushes are riveted, which I find strange. But a good cleaning is not a bad thing and the commutator can be freshened up. Replacing the wearing parts (brushes) is seemingly not that straightforward ☹️
