Last year we buying land near Šilutė, close to Kaliningrad. We hired surveyor to get corners of the plot correct. It took them close to a week to do it, because of GPS jamming

There is a lot of silence from the DHL plane. I don't consider the interference of the GPS to be excluded. Belarus can also participate in this, it is close to Vilnius. I did not experience it on my own GPS (not a phone)

Based on discussions among aviation community GPS theory was commonly disregarded in favor of ILS and human error combination.

@SokIsKedu That's a valid opinion, but before declassification of all investigation we cannot know and there is a possibility will never know for sure. So far most officials dismiss possibilities of any Russia's "successes" where evidence is not clear. Mostly it's US security services who supress even substancial evidence like in Havana syndrome cases, but there is way more hybrid-warfare going on in Europe than US.

@@dannydetonator Thank you! They may not even make it public. Russia should not know that they are "successful". If the jamming is on land, then it is done from Belarus. But could it be satellite? Then it would jam all GPS devices. Either we find out or we don't.

I usually observe my location on the phone while flying and noticed some weird things over Poland and Lithuania too lately. For example, on my recent flight from Spain, all of a sudden the location started showing as fixed spot in... Crimea :D The purpose of Russia messing around with GPS interferences could be their general narrative to convince everyone that it's not safe here, that it's better not to travel there as a tourist or on business, not invest etc.

You should do a video about the threat of Russia in general. Some Lithuanians I know are either stockpiling canned food or searching for ways to leave the country, and even I am beginning to think maybe I took this whole thing a little too unseriously.

why do they rely on just GPS navigation, which is erratic in any case. Normally they fly by INS and radio navigation. AFAIK the GPS is just a backup on big planes.

I wouldn’t say that Lithuania is “surrounded by unfriendly neighbors”. There are clearly just two of those: Russia and Belarus. Everyone else is a friend in the Baltic region. 😉

why, to this day, when I hear about flight students relying on complex nav equipment in thier fancy Cirrus or Diamond aircraft, when starting out, I laugh :) I did all of my training with only "steam guage" instruments, and that includes only ever using dual VOR's (and even the , now defunkt) ADF! :) Now, I know that modern aircraft MUST have some sort of reliable GPS nav system (multiple, in fact), but I do still find it amusing that when I had to find an 'intersection', I had to tune 2 VOR's and get there that way, as opposed to the Diamond aircraft my old flight school now uses, that have a moving map GPS (garmin) and a D-> (direct to) button to go to an intersection, VOR, approach fix, ect :) I know this is getting into the weeds, but , sometimes, even though GPS has made out lives WAY easier, I do feel that it's a crutch we can't let go of in aviation - give me a paper E6B and 2 VOR's, I'll get you there! (although, now, if I'm being honest, I didnt' use an E6B since flight training, and a moving map GPS with a D-> button IS so much more convient - yeah, I'm a hypocrite :) I know :)
