GPS or Rangefinder - What Unit should I choose? Fantastic sensible advice from Mark Crossfield

Totally agree Mark. I have both. Find the GPS is just fine for my home course that I obviously know and generally know where the pin is on the green, but for new courses I play, the Range Finder just adds that little bit extra to know exact distances when I have no idea how big a green is or where the run out is on a dogleg/bunker and for slope etc.

Garmin watch is everything I need for my regular course but would be nice to have both for when we play a new course and you come across massive downhill /uphill greens etc

Thanks Mark! I use both. I have an app that I use on my phone/watch and then I have a rangefinder on hand when I want it. Plus it just looks cool zapping a target 😉

The typical weekend hacker doesn't need the precision of the laser. GPS units are typically no worse than about 3 yards of the true value which is more than enough for those who don't hit their irons precise distances.
