I am deeply involved in the AI space particularly on X, and all engineers say that they trying to find more energy and data efficient architectures for the LLMs and by the end of the year we will have GPT5. Liam is right, as AI Implementation Service Providers, we need room to breathe and get better at what already exists. AI innovation takes time and is expensive both compute and energy wise. GPT-4o provides us cheaper and faster solutions which make our lives as service providers a little bit easier. There is no reason to lose hope or confidence. We are locked in!

Thanks for the insight. TBH the thumbnail had more of a scare effect that AI Agencies (MIddleman) may not be required...almost didn't want to hear the reality. Glad to hear of the plateau and a bit of breathing room to assist clients in actually automating their businesses. Great content, love the channel!

Microsoft's CTO just said on the Build conference, that we're nowhere near diminishing returns - they are training GPT 5 on a "whale" scale supercomputer as we speak. GPT-4 was trained on a "orca" sized supercomputer.

That's corporate hypespeak. Nobody knows until it's trained. It doesn't matter if it has peaked, there are plenty of RAG applications to build with performant models.

Thank you Liam for opening up the question! We’ve definitely not peaked considering we have only seen GPT for 2 years. It’s like saying the internet peaked back in early 2000s when we used AOL. Or thinking that IBM will be our only solution to personal computing. If you’re long term oriented with AI, you need to realize there will be a lot of noise. NO ONE, understands this space enough to say what the next year-3-5 years etc look like. Keep innovating, be ambitious, and create now!

I think the metaphor is that we've seen a jump from CRT TVs and now it's 1080p But the jump to 1080p to 4k is, pretty good Now it's plausible that more parameters just means diminishing returns.

AI may very well have peaked or will peak soon, considering that mistral-7b can perform as well as more parameter models, does increasing parameters even really matter at this stage? We're increasing token limitations etc. I don't really think AI needs to evolve... there's so much potential with what currently exists. You can RAG yourself into some great solutions.

its not plateauing because of the technology but because of the physical and economic demand those large models need to continue to grow for diminished results

The current state of AI is improved I/O. It can’t project into the future as extrapolation is not what LLMs do. Think of weather forecasts: the equations of fluid dynamics are well known and understood but can’t be solved far into the future without massive compounding errors without more initial data points than are possible to collect. AI isn’t meant to remember much yet, so it can’t remember the past in a way that truly helps it “think” into the future in way humans do all the time because we understand time and have memories that are stored in a way that can best be described as holographic, meaning all memories may impact all brain functions. That’s sentience, and AI will never get there.
