This was a game changer for my 3080 FE -- Using RDR2 Benchmarks I get 111.22 avg FPS using 316w max at stock settings, using your settings I get 110.24 avg FPS using 212w -- absolutely amazing, memory temps never went above 78 (they hit 92 at stock). I've tried a LOT of different undervolts and this is by far the best! --- It's Worth Noting for Others -- You will not see the power draw difference using benchmarking software. I didn't realize this for a long time and kept wondering why my settings weren't making a difference. Use a real game (I used RDR2 and Tiny Tina's Benchmarks) or something like Heavens Benchmark or Superposition to get more accurate information, 3DMark will push it over 300w every time regardless of settings. At my current kWh cost that'll save me $18-21/yr with casual use, not a lot to some, but I'll gladly keep that money in my pocket!

@@OrchiiGamingmiro Gpus run at a fixed voltage even at idle. Mostly they run around 600-700mv. So your clock speed doesn't matter. And if you undervolt below that fixed voltage your gpu will crash. Mine runs at 139mhz idle at 625mv. Same voltage applies when I play games that are less graphics intensive an clock speed usually sit around 800-900mhz.

@@acid1787 am talking about Coil whine... It's obvious that when you undervolting you gpu consume less power at full load no cap fps, so less coin whine...for me 3060ti usually consume 200 watt at 1950mhz on 1.01 v, I undervolted it to 0.91 v with the same clock 1950mhz at 180 watt, and I experience less Coil whine... Less hit less fan speed, just be smart about the way you edit your curve. If the game that you play doesn't utilize enough your gpu no need to touch anything just cap fps to get rid of Coil whine. And about lower voltage, power = current x voltage, so if you put your gpu at 0.9 v while it's consuming 20 watt at idle your current is to low to introduce any hit or Coil whine. I hope I answered everything.

I just got a Strix 3090. I ran stock test, unlocked pwr limits test and then an under volt. To my surprise I was able to get better performance, higher clocks, w/ less power draw and lower temps using the under volt. It was a lot more work to find over a standard oc but that may be because I'm not as experienced w/ under volting. I went from a 13525 score to a 14264 score in Port Royal and that was after I validated it was stable daily usage. I can only imagine how much more performance I could get if I slapped a water block on it but for now I'll stick w/ stock air cooling.

That's a really aggressive undervolt right off the start. I recommend anyone doing this to START with 925mv and work down. 850 is really low for these GPUs and can cause system instability, especially if you lost the silicone lottery. I also recommend not even touching the memory clock unless you have experience with overclocking. Performance gains would be nominal and GDDR6X already gets very toasty.

With this settings, use 1080p medium to make the scenario where the card boosts up pretty high and then you'll see the crash. At 4k optimized, the load is of 100% and gpu wont boost to the frequency what actual games are going to hit. For eg.,my 3080 aorus extreme can hit boost speed of 2230mhz in 4K optimized easily for like some seconds then drops down.to 2000ish but completes. But when I game at those speeds, it generally crashes. My stable oc for gaming is 2150mhz..any game, full stable.

I feel like I need the -250 clockspeed explaining. Why not just drag the curve and leave it at that? Because from the looks of it, all that does is reduce the efficiency of the card by underclocking at the lower power limits. Looks like the card would have hit 1300mhz at 700mv, and now only hits 1000mhz at 700mv. Surely the base clock should only need altering if you're not going to touch the curve at all? Edit: I'm pretty sure I'm correct and this is just 'overvolting' it at lower speeds - nothing dangerous but definitely the opposite of the goal. You can flatten the curve easily enough without having to mess around with the offset. Ctrl clicking the rightmost point also lets you adjust the whole curve from the starting voltage/clock, just line it up like you want and then flatten everything past that point. Gonna be more energy efficient, and gives a perfectly smooth curve too.

When the card was stock it would run at 2050mhz or so but would perform about 8.5% worse due to power limits. Temps went from 70C to 65C in synthetic bench and all the way down to 58C in CP2077.

But putting the initial clock speed down on lower voltages will just make it use more power at idle. So instead, leave default clock speed for the lower frequencies, and then just shift select all the frequencies beyond the point you want to change and drag them under the max voltage point. This way lower voltages will maintain a higher frequency

Hi there! Nice video! I really lost the silicon lottery... I’m not able to undervolt my 3080 XC3 ultra. At this point undervolting makes no sense to me because i`m getting significantly lower fps with not much of a power saving. This benchmark is not really relevant to gamers who want to play at ultra preset on their top end gpus.

@ARealPain
@ARealPain 2 жыл бұрын
You lower the voltage, but bring the mhz up to the highest stable core clocks. Say you run a game constantly at 1950 at 1.035 mV, you bring the entire curve down -200/300 however low, then bring up the curve at, let's say, 850 watts and take that dot and move it to 1950 for stability at 850 mV. Most times, you'll run alot cooler because less power, but can gain or stay the same in performance; for the most part. The curve before 850 mV will be lower, yes, but if you're running at that low of mV, then that is guaranteed a low end game, like Lost Ark, and in turn also keep the lower temps and run at the same FPS. At least this is my experience when I undervolted my 2080 ti. I'm about to test it out myself on my 3080. I'm no expert myself, but from undervolting and testing several games, that's what I've seen.

@@TheSouthForgot I just was tossing out numbers as an example. But you'll have to find the core clocks that wont crash the game at the lowest mV. For the part about lowering the mhz before, say 825 or 850, the game will just skip those numbers and go for the 825 cap. I dont know what numbers a 3090 can reach. But I did it on my 3080, it's watercooled so tempts didnt change because it never goes above 51 degrees. But I managed to lower the power by 80 watts and lower the mV to 875. @gameison4813

@@fishywtf It depends on your power limit. There can be huge power draw differences from one game to another. My 3060ti has only 220W power limit with 110% slider and if i would run it at 1860mhz/925mV than it will draw 170-220W. If i would undervolt it using higher frequency and voltage then i could end up before "the moved point that doesn't matter". I use different method. I oveclocked my gpu by 105mhz to core and 900 to memory and limited my power draw to 180W. It runs at whatever clockspeed at voltage it can deliver at 180W leaving no room for power draw spikes to 220W and running with higher that 1860mhz clocks in some games. I'm using whole curve in optimal way. Let's say that you can oc your gpu by 105mhz then it will be able to run that +105mhz at any given voltage. That's how curve works. If you limit your voltage to whatever you want than it won't be stable with more than 105mhz over original clock it was running at that voltage.

Liked subbed and everything, good stuff man, but I don't understand this stuff. I might be able to copy, but I'd like to understand as well:p What gets you the first number you need, the one that's individual for each card? (Better card lower number, don't understand why a better card can run at lower volt, feels like the way you say it it can either run or not and just feels unlogical that the card can only run at one volt and related speed) Why on earth does this work? Why do nvidia sell worse performance when they could just undervolt, makes no sense to me but I believe it cause Iv seen several videos like this now. Please enlighten me, please.
@pogtuber5146
@pogtuber5146 3 жыл бұрын
The first number is more of a baseline to adjust the whole curve so that when you go to move the dots they get perfectly flat at the GPU clock speed that you're shooting for. After that it doesn't matter, as you can hold alt/shift to move the whole curve. The reason this works, and the reason nVidia's partners set their cards this way, is because not all GPU chips are manufacturered good enough to handle higher clock speeds at lower voltages. Bad chip = bad transistors which fail when they don't have enough electricity going through them, and this means the chip gets errors when trying to perform at higher clock speeds. Higher voltage = more electric current = less chance of failure, but it also means more heat. So the reason nVidia has higher voltage than necessary is because they do not know which video cards could fail for the consumer because of too low voltage. To play it safe, they create a higher voltage profile so that when you get your video card, it doesn't crash, but it does run hotter. The technology of boosting clock speeds and then settling down when temperatures are too high is combined with fan speed to provide overall end user experience :)

Don't do it. Just overclock it and use power limit to have it running at whetever you want it to draw. If you edit voltage frequency curve only at some points than you leave perfomance on a table with not demanding games and overvolting your gpu with really heavy games. If you don't understand what i say then i will give you example. My 3060ti undervolted at 1860/925mV draws anything from 170-220W. If i wanted it to use higher clocks at higher voltage than it would still draw up to 220W as that is my power limit but it won't hit that higher clockspeed in every game and instead it will ran at lower clock. I you lower whole curve and push clocks only at some point then anything below that point will be overvolted. I'm using +105mhz core +900mhz memory and 80-90% power limit depending how game's framerate responds to higher clockspeeds.

Yea, there seems to be a lot of confusion about this. It seems that with these cards, when you overclock all you are doing is undervolting, and giving yourself more headroom, and vice versa. So people (like in the video above) are basically underclocking (overvolting) the card, and then dropping the voltage back down again at the upper limits. The idea of just overclocking (undervolting), and then putting a limit on the power seems to make a lot more sense. There's no doubt that the method in the video above works, but it just doesn't sit right with me. It seems messy.

isn't it better to first increase the ofset until the mv hit the desired mhz and then lower all on the right? read in forums it is better that way

Yes, but only because it provides a smoother curve before the minimum voltage.

But WHY did you bring down the whole curve before applying the new voltage curve. What is reducing the clock doing for us?

@@nicolaschasteler but that's not true, we can increase whatever point we want and the following points will reign in accordingly. It doesn't matter how far down the previous points are.

Hi mate, I got a watercooled system with 3 radiators and a watercooled 3090 from gigabyte. The GPU stays at maximum 35 degrees under heavy load. Which settings would you recommend for me in afterburner?

Don't undervolt, just overclock the shit out of it? Grab another +1000mhz of memory speed and increase your clock by +100. If you need the performance, anyways.

LOL, that's an awesome setup, but undervolting isn't for you unless you want to save some dollars on the electric bill. Most people here do it to ramp down fan speeds on the graphics card. With that kind of temp under full load, you'd be overvolting. Unfortunatlely, there isn't much headroom on these cards. If you find differently, let us know.

yeah unfortunatley I had to send back the RTX 3090 from Gigabyte. The GPU turned all of my monitors black, while the PC was still running in the backround. I have now an RTX from Asus and never faced the issues again.

is there any downside to running the gpu at a fixed voltage?

-) Unnecessary power draw on idle. -) Fans constantly running. -) Some programs using hardware acceleration in 2D mode might crash. (certain video player, CAD, simulation software...)
