Earlier this year we were out to swim with some (smaller) sharks at the North Shore on O‘ahu, Hawaii. Just when I wanted to get back on the boat, suddenly I noticed that all smaller sharks were gone, which was strange. Then someone on the boat yelled "Tiger Shark in the back".... so this 13-14 Tiger shark is swimming right at me to say "hi". I have to admit that for a second my heart stopped beating, because it much bigger than the other sharks. However, I stayed calm, looked right at it. The Tiger came close, then noticed that I am not the best looking food at this ocean buffet and then slowly swam away. I was so happy that I was able to see such an amazing creature in it's natural environment (without a cage or attracting it with blood). It is strange that later when I showed my GoPro video to my friends, most of them were so scared, by something which was one of the most beautiful moments in my life. "You don't have to worry about an ocean filled with sharks. Instead you should be worried about an ocean without them" I love what Melissa said at the end of the video :-)

Being surprised by a shark in the water is equivalent to asking if someone has a restroom
@acelovesdiyschristopher70234 жыл бұрын
That's actually pretty accurate. The odds of seeing a shark by accident if u do things normally such as a regular scuba dive. Without obvious factors like seals which are a prey of great whites and other prey or breeding season or diving in prominently populated areas it's not that likely. I know someone personally that has over 4600 dives (scuba) and the amount of dives in which accidentally seeing a shark happened was about twice. Maybe even 3 times I haven't talked to them about it recently. Also trying to find sharks on purpose on dives (cage popularly) come with disclaimers and warnings that they may not actually see sharks (great whites) even in breeding season of an area that has them like cape town. But we do try really hard lol. Sorry for the long reply I kinda got over-excited.

When she said trash cans of the sea. It reminded me that there was a story that came out a few years ago in Australia, I believe, where a tiger shark was caught by some fishermen and they saw a tattooed arm inside the mouth. They called the police and the arm belonged to a guy who was suspected for a crime, I can't remember which crime. But the police were able to get the finger prints off and catch the guy.
@nunununui3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's actually a pretty famous case, pretty old too, 1935. Some fisherman caught a smaller shark which was eaten by a tiger shark, they kept the tiger shark and brought it to the aquarium to become an attraction, the shark was okay for some time, but after some days during visiting hours the shark vomited a human arm, which had NOT been bitten off by it and wasn't even eaten by it, but by the smaller shark. Ended up discovering that the arm was actually severed with a knife, and the shark was also killed after some days. The arm belonged to a missing boxer (which was also a police informer) and through investigation ended up with a whole mess which involved a fraudster and a forger, some blackmailing, a second murder, and more questions than answers really. Kind of unsolved.

i love this because she’s a good sport. she’s not like: “this is stupid and everyone i stupid and this would never happen and everything is stupid and i’m smart and no one else is as smart as me” she’s just “no yeah, this is wrong for this reason which we’ve explored over the history of marine science. but it’s cool! and i get why you’d like to watch it!”

She really said “megaladons are extinct..... sadly”

She's a marine biologist. If they weren't extinct, she'd get to study them.

I would really like to know what they ate, probably something whale sized out in the ocean. Or still a coastal predator? Oh well I'm never gonna find out

Gilhadriel With its large serrated teeth megalodon would have eaten meat - most likely whales and large fish, and probably other sharks. If you are that big you need to eat a lot of food, so large prey is required. This would have included animals as small as dolphins and as large as humpback whales.

They have the perfect person reviewing these. Marques is also known as the mother of sharks because not only is she a shark scientist but she is also a big fan of their preservation efforts and as pretty much a PR person for them. I am absolutely terrified of sharks and the ocean. I saw the movie Jaws when I was way too little to have snuck and watched the movie.
