Classic menswear enthusiast here. In my opinion Black Tie should be viewed for what it is. It is a classic dresscode that follows some very specific rules that leave enough space for everyone to throw in a personal touch. What we are seeing today is the "personal touch" aspect of it completely overpowering the "classic dresscode" aspect. In my own opinion that is simply incorrect. Classics are called classics for a reason. They are meant to be enjoyed the same way today as they were 100 years ago.

I disagree with him on many occasions. Black tie has certain rules. And you need to follow them in order to look the best and to look correct. And a flower like a big red flower on an ivory jacket it looks fantastic. And that man is paying zero attention to black tie. He says he goes by classic rules but he thinks it's ok to wear red socks. You wear black socks so there's continuation between the shoe and trousers. Whoever listens to that man is gonna look terrible on a tuxedo. Btw,if you don't want to go black. Go midnight blue. It's darker than black and it looks amazing

Great advice I got was to buy a tuxedo second hand on eBay. Tuxedos don't get worn much and if you really check the sizes you can buy a £1500 tux for £150. Go classic because it will never go completely out of style. Generally, with any suit, know your real sizes. So many guys wish they hadn't put on weight and are still buying for a size smaller. You are not fooling anyone with your tight trousers and the pockets sticking out like rabbit ears. Then keep it totally sealed suit bag and it will always be there if you need it.
