In this video I explain the best way to keep the center exhaust valve open continuously for a more aggressive sound. Factory appearance and NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT! #grcorolla #exhaust #diy #oem

How did pin the valve to stay open?
@victornegron86472 ай бұрын
If you remove the gear on the actuator and the valve was already open, why does it need to be pinned (the valve)? Awesome video btw, really appreciate it! Didn’t know that gear could be taken out. I love the look of the stock exhaust and the tone
@Jovi__2 ай бұрын
The valve is tensioned closed, so without the gear it tries to shut. It’s easy enough to pin open and once the actuator is reinstalled, you can’t tell anything was ever done. Free mod.

After you took out the roll pin, is it able to go back into its original position stably like OEM or will it forever be loose?

You mean if you want to reinstall the gear and revert back to factory?

Nice video! Did you notice any change in throttle response by any chance?

I haven’t put many miles on it yet, but I’ll certainly reply back once I do and let you know.

Is there a fuse that would perhaps be easier to just pull instead ?

Not that wouldn’t set a check engine light.

Can you upload a short video of how you pinned it open? Really wanna do this with mine, but want to do it as legit as possible. Don't want any rattling or anything

I will. Gotta subscribe so you’ll get notifications.

Hey man, I am doing this as well, but I’m not seeing a way to pin the valve open. Resorting to industrial rubber bands and but if you could let me know how you actually pinned it that would be awesome!
@Jovi__Ай бұрын
Initially I jammed a piece of L-shaped strapping in the void but it ultimately did not work. I took the valve back out, drilled a small hole in the bottom of the bracket, and threaded a bolt in the hole. I can make a video about it explaining if you would like.

@@Jovi__ that would be awesome! 🍺

I’ll keep checking back to see if you were able to create that vid yet. Really struggling trying to figure out a solution and I’m shocked that both Toyota didn’t give us the option to turn this off and on from the factory and that there’s no aftermarket solutions for the GR Corolla yet as it seems so simple smh

Have you gotten a CEL from this?
@Jovi__2 ай бұрын
No, no malfunction lights at all. The actuator is still plugged in and operating. The car doesn’t know any difference.

How did you pin the flap open?
@Jovi__2 ай бұрын
I just secured a piece of u shaped steel in the slot. There’s tension on the flap when open, and the actuator keeps whatever you use from backing out.

Did it work? Does it still quiet down after the initial startup?
@Jovi__2 ай бұрын
@@bobdavis3662 pinning the flap open definitely makes it louder. It does still quiet down a little from the cold start, but not as much as before. When you’re driving though, it’s a noticeable difference. You get a deep grumble that the exhaust was missing before. I’ll just say that it’s curbed my desire to buy an exhaust right now. It sounds so good.

@@Jovi__can you share a picture of the piece you inserted?

I unfortunately don’t have a pic of that. I just found something in the toolbox junk drawer that looked like it would work. You could use any number of things.
@bbb40192 ай бұрын
It’s almost like Toyota wanted this to be easy.
@Jovi__2 ай бұрын
Should’ve been this way from the factory. No need for a valve.

You’re going to loose low end torque with this mod. Right off the box Toyota did such an excellent job with the GR Corolla I wouldn’t change anything about it
@DeepRacer-zr4yp3 күн бұрын
no, this is a turbo car. I hate this bullshit about backpressure. No engine needs backpressure. As long as you have a good header it will take care of exhaust scavenging. Most engines make more power with an open header, think about that. Backpressure is bad. Of yourse you don't wanna have a 6 inch exhaust on a very small engine because the exhasut velosity will suffer, so xeah it is always a act of balance. But backpressure is bullshit, exhaust scavenging is real
@kengit22 күн бұрын
@@DeepRacer-zr4yp Darn that Toyota Chief Engineer Naoyuki Sakamoto when he talked about managing backpressure on the GR Corolla. I actually believed him! Now I look like a fool. I will never trust another experienced Toyota engineer no matter how many countless manhours they spend on engineering and testing the GR Corolla! 😶

Toyota service manual shows that this actuator should Not be powered without being attached to the valve.
