I was just looking this up because a lovely person sang a verse at *my* Irish language course in Gaeltacht na nDéise and I wanted to hear the entire thing... and lo and behold, it's you!!! Your voice is beautiful as always. Miss you and hope to sing and dance in the Gaeltacht again soon.

I was just wondering the same thing! Loch Lomond, Red is the Rose and Grainne all seem to have the same tune. I wonder if there's any connection between them further than just having the same tune?

The answer is probably not. There is also another Irish song by the name of Red is The Rose. Which is also to the same tune. This is a common thing in folk music. Same tune different lyrics.

Spelling vs pronouncing Irish is even worse than English. One can only guess how it's spoken.

It’s actually very regular, the spelling system is just different. English has a very arbitrary and random spelling system.
