I've had my Nikon FM since I bought it new in 1980 along with a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 AI lens to go with it. I have four Nikon 35 mm film SLR's and the FM is my favorite. Well made and simple straightforward operation it's an excellent choice for a mechanically operated 35mm film SLR camera (batteries required only to power the light meter). Batteries quit, and the full range of shutter speeds still operate. Agree too on Nikon optics: the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 I bought with the FM camera is excellent as is a Nikkor 50mm f/2 non-AI I picked up to go with a Nikkormat FT2 I have. Can't go too wrong with the Nikon mechanical 35mm film cameras and optics.

Pushing or pulling film, I'm about to try that. BW film has more latitude for that. With pushing, you can shoot in lower light but may lose shadow detail.

Btw that 55mm f3.5 is called micro Nikkor and is designed for extreme close up shooting...as well as regular use of course.
@NatashaHerbert Жыл бұрын
Right! I shoot a lot of micro shots on it. Love that lens!

That 55f3.5 is one of nikkors’ sharpest lenses!

Great cameras indeed! But, where can one buy one for such a great deal these cameras are hundreds of dollars
@NatashaHerbert3 жыл бұрын
Depending on where you stay I would check the local camera stores. Online I would check sites like Ebay.

I think we share this addiction. I am at eleven( and counting) because there are a few others I would like to add.. There are always more!! I'm currently shooting a Nikon FTN, FM, and hopefully an F2 soon...maybe. There is a way to fix that light leak... you can replace the light seals inside the camera. I did it... you will not have trouble either. Keep on shooting!

Looks good indeed. Nothing crazy or shiny. But just looks proper. A camera camera.

Modern editing really helps with film. I didn’t have any batteries for my pentax and only mechanical speed on there is 125x, with 30 year old low speed Kodak so I know I gotta VIOLENTLY overexpose those shots, ran around on Bulb and most shots turned out to be okay as I could easily adjust them in an app. Awesome review!

Now that the Nikon Zfc is out, I guarantee the price of the FM and FM2 will increase!
@NatashaHerbert3 жыл бұрын
Oh yea, it definitely has increased. I saw them increase in these last few months.

@@NatashaHerbert The price of these older film cameras is increasing because of the current film fad.

You probably need to replace the lightseals in the back to avoid that "light leakeage"
@NatashaHerbert3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I’ll check into it!

@@NatashaHerbert Nikon FM was my first 35mm film SLR camera and still is my favorite (and I have several). I've had it since 1980 and I did have to have the light seals and mirror box foam replaced that was due to the age of it but otherwise a very reliable well built photographic instrument. Good examples can still be had at reasonable prices. There are light seal kits available or if you can find photo equipment shops that still service film cameras the cost is not too expensive.
@ronaldwhedon39242 жыл бұрын
I agree, light seal replacement is fairly easy and is required on any metal film back. ~$15 on eBay for a kit. Leaks near the cassette are the least likely to hit the film, more like near the frame counter reset lever or the home area. You'd otherwise need to tape the whole door edge.

Thanks Martin! My go to is Portra 400 and I get them developed at Dodd currently. There are quite a few online companies that are great too. I believe one is called "The Darkroom"
