I stumbled upon these guys on some college radio station in Cincinnati around 2006 or 7. They're on my 38 year old Mt. Rushmore along with Motley Crue, Pink Floyd and Alice in Chains. One of the best live bands around. Amazing chemistry and energy. Can't be denied.

@918509 Would Highly Highly suggest listening to "Treat me Right". There is a live version on youtube where she is playing in Baltimore, I used to describe her to my friends as the illegitimate love child of Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison. If you search for Grace Potter and the Nocturnals in youtube it'll be the third video, she's wearing a blueish colored shirt, you're gonna love it.

Arrggg!!!! Why are so many vevo videos so warped? I very seldom have a problem with videos unless they are on vevo. I don't understand why they can't fix their 'takes so long to load' "buggy as hell' or 'never will load/play' problems. Do they not have a single tech working for them???

I think it's an awesome, well executed, professional song that shows just how well GP&N can take a seemingly one-dimensional piece and evolve it into something completely different. From flowing and beautiful to dark, deep and soulful

What will come of us today? What we need we cannot say It's been a long, long time since I've been so afraid And as we all fall down it's hard to see a brighter day but I see a tiny light Like a flashbulb sparkle in the night I see a tiny light Telling everyone to hold on tight What will come of all our pride? This house of stone is crumbled from the inside It's been a long, long war, now the battle's drawing near Closer and closer 'til it whispers in my ear I see a tiny light Like a flashbulb sparkle in the night I see a tiny light Telling everyone to hold on tight Bring me back to the streets of gold Give me something warm to hold Give me love and only love And you will see it shining from above I see a tiny light Like a flashbulb sparkle in the night I see a tiny light Telling everyone to hold on tight I see a tiny light Like a flashbulb sparkle in the night I see a tiny light Telling everyone to hold on tight I see a tiny light But it's not gonna shine without a fight

Why not better known? Started out with a more country attitude but didn't have quite the intensity of country industry affectation (sappiness) to be embraced by that industry. Then moved to a more bluesy-rootsy-rock attitude - which, face it, is not a hugely popular money making segment. Grace will eventually have to make that decision whether to sell her soul and go "solo" (while giving up artistic control to a company) or to remain true to her band and her own roots.

Been into music for 50 years and I'm still saying that Gracie is THE most dynamic singer on the face of the planet at this current time. No one touches her. No one. She was not 'made' by the media. Or by Hollywood. Or by Nashville. Gracie is pure unadulterated, raw talent. It was born into her. The last female singer to have this ultra rare talent just born into her like this was Janis Joplin. And I STILL think Gracie blows Janis outta the water!!

Because I have gotten so tired of all the mindless rap on the radio taking about sex and drugs and being pimps and makin' love on the dance floor omg its all laughable! And then enter Grace Potter and the Nocturnals.... I see a tiny light!!!!! :)

Great band, I've always enjoyed their down to earth live videos, playing in some hotel room, or on stage looking/sounding like a 60's flashback. But the visuals & slick production here left me a bit cold, until 2:47. Then I got chills until the end! Still, this video didn't showcase one of their main strengths - their visual appeal as a BAND, interacting spontaneously, obviously grooving off each other & having fun. In this video the band members were downplayed in the visuals, except for Grace.

@terpsichore1974 There are a lot of female singers out there...that don't fit, or want the "sex-kitten, sell-my-looks" mold, so they don't get the deals. There are some twisted people in power that like to LOOK, instead of LISTEN...and in their minds, the YOUNGER and SEXIER the better...ie...the Britney's, Miley's, Christina's, Kay's and Selena's. Grace has been around since 2006...

I've waiting for another great female vocalist (not in country) actually sing something with meaning and keep her clothes on while kicking ass. I have great respect for women now who can do this without having to sing about brushing their teeth with a bottle of Jack or not being able to be tamed at 17 years old lol. Good job Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, my hat is off to you and I hope to GOD you will take the world over with your gifted voice and talent for being able write real music.
@aklags
@aklags 14 жыл бұрын
@lredelman I mean, not to be an ass or anything, I don't know her, but how the hell would you know if she "took her clothes off" to be successful? It's kind of interesting how people think they know celebrities, as if they somehow grew up together or something... That's why artists are alluring, because you imagine in your mind what you think they're like, and subconsciously design them to fit your personal fantasy. Enjoy, but remember its not real.
@Adrain30

@lila0o "an alright" band???? I be to differ. They are a great band with great songs and an amazing vocalist. This isn't rock or funk...it's a rock n roll.. not many bands play that nowadays so i can see why someone like you would be confused. In an age of Studio tricks and backing live tracks an actual band that can blast live with a vocalist that not only can sing beautiful but uses her voice as an instrument as well is rather unique...and that is why the state of music is so sad nowadays.

@nystan1 good point-well taken. That's what fans do. Project where they think the music is going. My un-favorite fan moment was the release of Stevie Wonder's, 'The Secret Life of Plants.' AM still disappointed. This band is evolving. Members will leave. I love their current bass player. She has personality when she plays and she also sings good backups. I think with this band, the little bit of success they have gotten has served them well. The music still rocks.

@nystan1 I don't think the Flaming Lips are starving, or the Black Keys or Brandi Carlile, or My Morning Jacket. Look, I used to really like this band, they still put on a great live show. Followed them from the days they played at Nectors in Burlington. I'm not trying to be a hater, I'm glad they're successful. Just expected way more. If you like this music, good. But they've really shifted direction since signing to a major label. The bass player quit for a reason, let's put it that way..

I think that they are very good as a band and that is what I like about them that they are a band and they compliment each other instead being background to the singer ,the only thing I am a bit skeptical about is that they are too cool with the vintage clothes and retro cars and instruments etc I mean how do you get so cool on the first time out where do you go from all this coolness when it layed on this heavy it seems a bit contrived like the cool equivalent to Bieber
