Happy Birthday Grace Slick born on October 30, 1939. He is an American singer-songwriter, artist, and painter. Slick was a key figure in San Francisco's early psychedelic music scene in the mid-1960's. With a music career spanning four decades, she first performed with The Great Society, but is best known for her work with Jefferson Airplane and the subsequent successor bands Jefferson Starship and Starship. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grace_Slick

She is a Scorpio like me. Scorpio's are very powerful people! And they say that Scorpios like to be in the background. No, we just don't beg for attention. We just know we got it, like she did!!! Scorpios are Sexy, Hot, Talented and Smart!!! The Most Powerful Zodiac Sign! Grace Slick Proves It!!!

Grace Slick said that Jim Morrison never called her after a one night stand, so she took it as that she must not had been a good lay. That wasn't it. I loved Jim Morrison, but he probably couldn't handle her. She is a Powerful Scorpio lol

Yes, I am 19 years old, and yes I wasn't there or even close to being there but Grace Slick is the most beautiful woman I have ever saw/heard. She is so talented, I wish there were more artists today like her.

This song was on a mixed cd that Dewars whiskey gave away in the Christmas of 1995 in Lebanon. We used to play this song for my sister when she was at hospital getting treated for kidney cancer. In that brief moment she forgot her pain and hummed to the song with a big smile on her face, she was only 3 so she really couldn’t follow the lyrics much especially when her first language wasn’t English. Sadly she died in 1996 and this song reminds me of her and it gives me an odd yet refreshing feeling of sadness and happiness

Sad and happy to hear your story, sad for your lose but happy for all the good memories. My dad used to buy dewars bottles in the same period in zahle and we used to have the CDs. This song and space man came travelling (chris de burge) used to be on the same CD. Lovely memories. I am happy that someone somewhere still recalls these days/memories!

Sherif mortada thank you for your kind words and great memories. I am also glad to hear that you also remember that CD. They really were different and better times in some retrospect to now, for Lebanon at least.

My late mother didn't care for rock music but she tolerated it. While ironing clothes in the kitchen one evening she had her beloved WNEW-AM big band station on. She was bopping to this tune on the radio & singing along with it in gibberish (she didn't know the exact lyrics). I came in to get a drink and said "Mom...what are you doing? That's Grace Slick's "Seasons," you're singing. What is Grace doing on your radio station?" My Mom just smiled. Said she liked it. But of course, WNEW-FM -- its sister station was NY's premier rock station. I suspect someone from the FM side gave this to the AM side. My Mom liked it...she began to appreciate Grace Slick too. She came down into the basement one night to ask for some more of that "Slick woman." I played "Lawman," from Bark -- and she made me play it 3 times. Her only comment -- "she's a good one sonny." Sometimes you can't convince someone to like something -- you have to allow them to discover it by accident in their own time. I miss Mom. She was a wise one. She told me Frank Sinatra was going to have a hit with his new song. I said, "yeah sure." But then "That's Life," exploded and even my friends were buying it. Great days...lots of good memories.

This is probably the best cut off of Grace's solo LP "Dreams" (RCA Victor). The LP as a whole is Grace's best solo work to date and her most consistent. It's a classic mix of songs that plays well and deserves a regular spin on your turntable. It is availble on CD but, hard to find. Worth the effort to look. I love this cut. It's my favorite! Thanks for the post and bringing back some great memories!

When the winter comes the sun is low upon the fields The sky is cold and it throws down icy snow The lakes are glass the rivers all a frozen mass The trees are bare and the northwind blows the air But the children dance and sing as if the time were spring When the seasons change everything they find a joy in what it brings Then the sun comes high and the spring rains come and go The summer air so hot it melts the Russian snow The fields are brown there's no rain to make them grow And the old ones sigh, the heat has made them tired and slow But the children dance and sing as if the time were spring When the seasons change everything they find a joy in what it brings The children dance and sing as if the time were spring When the seasons change everything they find a joy in what it brings September leaves are falling through the autumn haze And the school bells tell everyone there'll be no more summer days Warm nights are gone, all the leaves are turning brown Then the windows close again when the winter comes around But the children dance and sing as if the time were spring When the seasons change everything they find a joy in what it brings So I will laugh and dance and watch the children sing Then I will have the chance of finding joy in everything

Love Grace. Decades of applause! "Seasons" always reminds me of the film Doctor Zhivago. Its imagery, especially the wintry scenes that are so bleak, yet so beautiful. It's as though Grace's voice is just sailing over that magnificent frozen landscape. A singer like no one else! ❄️🌷🌻🍁

For awhile there, back in the late 60's, Grace was pretty close to perfect. She had the looks, (boy did she ever have the looks,) she could sing, and Jefferson Airplane was a group that had great talent and musical integrity. Slowly, very slowly, one falls off the pyramid. From this song to "They Built This City" is a cautionary tale. But memories are free and thankfully, very selective.

Struck me as an odd choice for a single...I like it myself, but it didn't seem all that commercial. Then again, I don't know what else from DREAMS would've been potential Top 40 material in the late 70s. As Grace often said, her commercial successes were kind of "flukes." Not because she wasn't great, but that she wasn't exactly a Brill Building type of artist at all. "White Rabbit" was just the right song at the right time (and "Somebody To Love" was actually penned by her bro-in-law Darby). Anyway, I've always liked the "Russian" feel of this tune.
